I saw the 9:30 showing on Saturday of opening weekend, and I'd say about 25% of the crowd was under 17 and 10% was under 13. I'd like to know how many people walked out of the movie. When I saw it at least 13 people walked out and one person *passed* out during the scene with the brain eating.
Why USB? Why not Firewire (IEEE 1394)? This would be cool if I could use it like a regular DV-cam. what's the max bandwidth usb can push? 5mb/s? thats around an hour to copy a whole disc to your HD. ugh.

It all depends on the bit rate of the MP3. I have an old 486DX4-100 that will play the 64k/22khz stream from my main machine with no problem. However it starts to choke with 128k/44khz ("standard") mp3 files.
I think this is sorta neat though, because the dreamcast is able to go on the net, so I think the next thing to come out of this project is a sega dreamcast webserver.. That
would be sweet. I suppose it could work pretty easily...the sega's come with a 56k modem and all..and you can get network interface for it.....I think that this guy should
try running his dreamcast as a server..that would rule.
hmm, 25,000+ or so people with ISDN/DSL/Cable/T1/T3, etc connections trying to view a web page on a dreamcast with a 56k modem... It would take like, what, five people to slashdot it?
If you think the US patent system is messed up, a Russian company name Intellekt managed to get patents on bottles, nails, and railroad tracks. They had demanded 11 breweries pay them %5 of gross revenues from bottled beer sales.
when I first saw the headline I thought "Great, really crappy encryption for movile devices". Then I thought "why the MPAA would be interested in mobie devices?" At least when someone says Divx I know that they're at least talking about digital video.

How, pray tell, can the MPAA make money with DeCSS? At least, with VCRs, the answer was pretty freaking obvious.
Let someone write a DVD player for Linux so I can start buying DVDs.(I do not own a TV, I don't want to buy one. I have already bought DVD-ROM drive with my computer, and I would like to use it.)
I also find the little red light extremely annoying...Apple should come out with a mouse that has a similar light...but a different colour...a blue or green would be swell.
I'm sure apple tried this, but then they would have to color match the mice with the iMac shells. It's probably pretty hard to make a "snow" color opitical light.
I used to be a Metallica fan until about 1992 or so, and I still have some of their CDs and videos. The other day I was digging through some of myvideo tapes and I came across one of Metallica's called "Cliff 'em All". It's basically a bunch of performances and interviews and stuff from pre 1986, mostly concentrating on the bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus crash in europe in 1986. The tape is in memory to him and for people who were just getting into Metallica to see what they were like before MTV and the hair cuts and stuff. Anyways almost all of the performances are from people with video cameras at concerts. Bootleggers. Now I highly doubt that many people would submit tapes now if there were to make a "Cliff 'em All II", out of fear of legal persacution. It's kinda sad really. Also right on the beginning of the tape Cliff Burton is walking around with a video camera and he and the other band members (lars, james, kirk) are in a conv. store picking up beer and chips and slim jims and hostess cupcakes and stuff, and they just walk right by the counter and out the door. Cliff starts to understand what's happening and takes the camera off his face and starts running out the door too. Very arrogant. Metallica thinks it's ok to steal from some mom-and-pop store in the middle of nowhere but if you steal from them, watch out.
My computer is in my living room. My stereo is in my living room. For those who are still starving students, substitute "bedroom" for "livingroom" above.
Most of us who are geeky enough to use MP3s are geeky enough to either a) have our computer in the room in which we spend the most time - which probably also has our stereo, or b) have a spare computer kicking around which may already be in the stereo room.
I totally agree. My CD player died about six months ago and I haven't bothered to replace it, and I probably won't because my computer is now my CD player. The CD player was a 5 disc changer because I like to listen to my music for long periods of time with out having to get up and replace CDs. Now my computer has *all* of the CDs I listen to regularly available at the touch of a button. Plus, if I'm using win2k, I can use my Logitech iTouch wireless keyboard to control WinAMP with the extra keys (skip track, play, pause, stop, volume, etc.). Related note: does anyone know how to map those extra keys for X? I would really like to use those see as I'm spending most of my time in Linux now.andy j.
However, while CorelDraw is definitely the king of vector drawing programs and one of the missing key apps still holding back Linux (no, xfig really does not cut it!)
I think I have to disagree with you there on CorelDraw being the king of vecot drawing programs.
I think that either Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand are much better than CorelDraw. Sure, they may not be free (actually they're far from it), but it's like comparing Photoshop to The Gimp. The Gimp may be free and a very good program, but I don't think anyone working at a design agency is going to skip the next upgrade of Photoshop to use The Gimp.

The OpenNap servers are only directories-- they don't contain illegal contents, just listings, so how can they be held accountable?
I think "reasonable" is the key word here. Have you been paying attention to the 2600 vs. MPAA case?
Why do I get the feeling that IBM thinks that people didn't object to the *idea* of hardware based copy protection, but this implementation of it?

This has to be the shortest - on topic first post ever.
Hey, look at it this way: less chance for spelling errors.

Why would I want to download Lie-nuck 2.4 when I can go to staples and get Lie-nucks 6.2?

Be careful trying to run one of these under linux. you might be violating someones Intellectual Property. Because it is illegal to use the stuff you own.
Does it bother anyone else that buycrack.com redirects to buy.com?

Thank you Mr. Heckler. I was trying to decide between a Vaio or a Powerbook, and you just made my decision a whole lot easier.
andy j.I recommend bigheavyworld. A nice local label (Burlington, VT) with quite a diverse catalog. Chainsaws and Children - tech-core, Chin Ho! - alt-pop,Zola Turn - rock, plus more.
