Does this mean that Bush is going to sign the Kyotto deals? Now he can profit from cleaning up!

  2. Life on Still More Evidence of Life of Mars · · Score: 1

If there is life, we better make sure that Micro$oft doen't get there first! Two planets full of Windows is too much for me! ;)

  3. Paperboy on E-Paper Moves Closer · · Score: 1

I just hope those e-papers aren't too heavy. Think about all those paperboys carrying them around each morning. ;)

  6. Sad on New Russian Space Station 'Real Possibility' · · Score: 1

I think this is rather sad news. ISS is up there, I don't see the need for Russia to give away more money for it's own space station.
They should get the country back together first. They are still recovering.

That is great. Just as long as the automatic pilot isn't running on M$ Flight Simulator.

Emailbooms are very dangerous when it comes to schools. Some teachers and student will after a month of two or three.
This is prime time for the virus. Those small (sometimes even nifty) beasts were stored on mailservers... waiting.
Viruses (viri) will now be downloaded with the mail and mailed all over the world again.
Oh man, am I glad I'm on Unix.

  11. What 'bout us? on Oh, Your Private Jet Is Just Subsonic? · · Score: 1

That way we, man and women that have most right to it, will never fly supersonic.
I bet those MBA people will!

Good point. What you are saying is correct.
I just hope that the West is going to make it for them, cheap. But I guess it's just a dream, isn't it?
It will be the same problem with the blood like with every other kind of support to poor countries.
People, we live in a sad world when it comes to hunanity. BE MORE SOCIAL!

  13. Good thing... on Human Blood Cells Grown · · Score: 1, Insightful

If they can have a major production of blood, the big bloodsortage in most countries could be solved AND the risk of getting AIDS by getting a transfusion will disappear.

  14. Lego Mindstorms to build on... on Mindstorms' Next Generation · · Score: 0

I still believe that the best way to 'play' with Mindstors is by using the Lego sensors, motors and IR transmitter and to combine them with your own prints. The receiver may be the TSOP1136 receiver. Those are cheap and work like the best.
To give the motors their jice at the right moment, use an IC of the L293 series (like the DIP L239B).
Of course you will need a controller of some kind... Take the 80C535.
It's based on 8051 technology and easy to program (I like to code it in Assebly).
Now, you can even use a LDR to let your robot follow a black line!

I'm going to put more information online soon. For now, just some picsures.

  17. Spread-it! on Linux Office Suites · · Score: 1, Informative

One of the major problems with Staroffice is the fact that few people know that is exists.
Beside, you have to get a good connection like cable or ADSL to download it in a nice, non-frustrating way.
I don't know if you can buy Staroffice in shops in the US but you certainly can't here in Belgium.
They should spread it like Linux is spread (the non online way), cheap CD's.
This will be the most effective way to make it a success. People will not complain about the money, and they can make legal copies out of purchased CD.

  18. Going to be worse on Virus Cost Estimate For 2001 Tops $10 Billion · · Score: 0

I think things are going to be worse. M$ systems are just too vulnerable to these virus problems.
Never forget how much money is gain by the anti-virus companies like McAffee, Norton, etc. Those companies may play behinde the scenes.
Beside, most viruses are made to hit just a certain group of people. Like M$ Outlook people. _The_ problem still is Micro$oft if you ask me, and not the bunch of students and other virus coders. They just use the weak M$ application to do their thing.

By the way, Code Red doesn't taste as good as the real stuff: plain old Mountain Dew.

  23. Lego Mindstorms on Why Can't LEGO Click? · · Score: 1

I made a robot, with a fellow student, in function of our thesis. The basic parts were made out of Lego Mindstorms. The system is great, but narrow in expansion. That is why we made our own electronic circuits. You can see some pictures of MADY, the robot here: http://www.menteb.org/robotics.
More stuff will come soon, like the electronic prints etc. The major part we used in our system is the Lego Mindstorms transmitter that connects to the serial port of your pc.
Anyway Lego is a wonderful thing!
