personally i'd rather download a small application to do my banking - that way i can be sure that the transactions are being isolated (with a different port etc..)

That seems to work well for the South Koreans. Except as a consequence they are overrun with ActiveX exploits. And don't say "I run $OS", Korean banks won't deal with you online if you don't run Windows and therefore can't accept ActiveX.

You can't have a dark city.

No-one's suggesting that anyone has a dark city. Just that you don't waste up to half the output from streetlights lighting up the sky. Better design of street lighting which focuses all the light to the lower 180 degrees would also mean one could use lower-power bulbs (for the same amount of light on the ground) and save money at the same time.

So, the U.S. President's house (White House), his motorcade, and Air Force One aren't paid for by taxes? Idiot. Every head of state, whether elected or hereditory, has expenses paid for by taxes.

The difference between a hereditory head of state is that the incumbent didn't want to be there, he/she has no choice, unlike the average money-grubbing politicion who just wants to be head of state so he/she can use their power for their own ends.
