    OpenSSH is a great peice of sodtware - but it's so huge that I can't help but think that their could be flaws in it (like the one of 6 months ago)

    I would love to layer another peice of security infront of OpenSSH and this seems like a great idea.

    More correctly, Uluru -- Ayers Rock is the name given to Uluru by the white invaders.... errr, settlers.


    So if we're writeing in Englush - We can all say Ayers Rock.

    Other languages will have their own names for it but I doubt that the written form that that the first-settelars in Australua lookes even remotly like the psudo-engliish "Uluru"

    If you're going to get rid of it then at least adopt Openboot firmware like Macs and Suns have.

    The fun thing about Openboot is that it's in Forth:

    There is a middle ground...

    Keep the TV - but only hook it up to a DVD player.

    Then get a subscription to Netflix - all the PBS/Documentry content you could possibly want wihtou the comericals/pledge-drives.

    Did you try DD (Dangerously Dedicated) Mode?

    in the FDisk part of the Install - delete all the slices (partitions) and hit 'd' - then tell the installer that you don't want traditional partitions.

    FreeBSD will reserve the whole disk for itself - there will be no traditional partition table.

    For some reason, this works for 4.9 and 5.2 on large hard drives.

    IMHO

    If you look at Linux 2.6 now vs. FreeBSD 4.9 - they both are stable and good.

    It's just that FreeBSD has had *years* of history of being stable and good - I'm just not comfortable *trusting* Linux 2.6. It looks good though.

    It's kind of like American cars - I really like some of the newer ones and they look mechanically sound, it's just that I have trouble trusting them after the fiasco of the 70's and 80's.

    We're spending so much time suing/litigating/pateting/copyrighting/legeslating that it's amazing that we can acutally stay productive.

    If we continue on this road - where we all pay tribute to layers for everything with dream of and do - we're simply going to get passed by.

    A book I highly recomend for all us geeks is: How to Win Friends and Infuence People. The first edition was writted a long time ago, and despite the title, it's basically a book theat lets you learn what people want from social interactions, and how to be nice and meet the social needs of yourself and your firends.

    It's had a profound influence on my life: I'm a better friend, and a better person for listening to the advice in that book.

    After that.... geting a social network is easy...

    Microsoft said so. When you open the box your xbox comes in you agree to a EULA which states you can't alter the hardware which is required to boot linux.

    I say so. When my XBOX connects to my internal network, Microsoft agress to an EULA/TOS which stats that I can alter the hardware which is required to boot.

    HINT: EULA's after a sales transaction have never been held by the courts to be enforcable (except for for case of limits of liability.)

    Sony has a new digital camera out that has a HUGE LCD perview screen, and a 3x optical zoom with a 3x digital zoom on top of it.

    Just use the camera! Use the zoom features and look at the screen. No need to actually use it as a camera.

    If you really want to be clever - I'm sure the CCD/Lens assembly in the camera could be removed and it's wiring extended.

    Ahem... Pontiac Fieros are pretty common. So are Toyota MR2.

    I don't live in the south - but I'm pretty sure they sold a few Fieros down there.

    I have a clinet that decided that the men's restroom would be a great place for the telephones - and slowly by surely, we've added all the internet-facing computers to the same room.

    About a year ago - I stopped thinging that it was a burder, and now I think it's a benefit...

    I can sit on the crapper with a Thinkpad on my lap and administering the servers, and pooping at the same time.

    I'm multitasking!!!
