Now Star Wars fans get to experience what Star Trek fans have been feeling for decades... Your favorite performers in your favorite roles are mortal. Sure, your character might get a Genesis resurrection, or turn into a Force Ghost, but eventually, the actors die. Then the copyright holders get to screw with your favorite memories by remaking your favorite films with completely different actors. It's worse than Life Day.

It gets worse. Hopefully Disney dosent own the rights to her likeness of we will see her appear in every subsequent film jar jar binks style. In the future, favorite stars will actually be immortal.

It's not exactly just the gap that creates inefficient coupling but the ratio of the area of the field to the gap. Therefore on a car where the field is coupled across nearly the whole width the gap can be somewhat large compared to a phone and still not be too bad.

There are other gotchas though such as what if stray pieces of conductive material get in the way? If the vehicle is going to actually charge at a reasonable rate then some stray piece of metal can be a real problem in terms of picking up energy and heating. You could carefully monitor the power on both sides but it's hard to say if the difference is going to heat something. Another is broadcasting all kinds of errant emissions. When you broadcast that much power even little screwups like not parking in the exact right spot or minor damage to the bottom of the car could create tons of unwanted noise at all kinds of frequencies.

While it sounds cool to wirelessly charge, in reality it's likely to be far more practical and inexpensive to just use a plug.

People like the security blanket statements that sum up a complicated condition into one handy catch phrase or statistic. Easy, engineers are morons. They don't think about what PEOPLE need or want

You obviously aren't an engineer. Nor do you know many. Most engineers don't decide the features and performance requirements of the product. Either management or the customer does.

So the people writing the specs are morons. If someone gives you a recipe for a turd sandwich, you're going to make them a turd sandwich---or else you'll get fired for not doing your job.

Maybe you can ask them if they want lettuce or tomato on their turd sandwich. Maybe you can tell them that they have to choose between toasted and untoasted bread (because it's impossible to have both). But, in the end, if the spec is a turd sandwich then that's what you deliver.

I'm sure any programmer with an ounce of sense realized the implications of automatic updates and always-on telemetry. And most of them would never put that crap into the spec if they had any say in the matter. But they don't get a say. So enjoy your turd sandwich.

I don't know about you but I ordered a Giant Douche and instead got this Turd Sandwich... I'm outraged!
