  1. HTC Devices on Innovators Shine At CTIA Wireless Conference · · Score: 0

I'm more interested in Sprint's EVO. Assuming the pricepoint is right that is. It's a real step towards video conferencing as a common form of communication. Plus the 8.1 Megapix camera that can record up to 720P and has HDMI out means I can lighten my load by about 3 devices...

No it isn't they are not directing you to a externally developed app, their simply adding a GUI interface to a bunk DNS return. They aren't forcing you to an external domain and you dont have to click on any of their links. Lets call this what it is, overeacting think tanks.

Before you go calling me a troll, just hear me out, this isn't that big of a deal. It doesnt redirect you to another 3rd party site owned by the NSA, it simply provides a web GUI that suggest sites on what the system thought you wanted to see. You dont have to go any sites you dont want to. The sky isnt falling.

Please don't get me wrong, this will make a nice addition to a toolbox. However, the hype I have seen tied to this tool is overwhelming. It seems like conferences have become more reliant on over-hyping items like these to promote the conference name more than anything else.

I know Slashdotters didn't write this ridiculous story, but even posting it is a joke. Its like posting a story that Harley has a key in the big-3s downfall. I'm so tired of slashdot's support of buzzwords articles and think tank mentality... MS evil, any other piece of crap is automatically good... Vista bad, Win 7 good.... this site has become a flippin joke... I still laugh about the article posted a few months back which claimed Usenet is a dead technology.

I would just love to know how you are able to roll back to a snapshot beyond 30days, if you tried this lame duck trick with Vista. It's smart enough to reach out of VMWare... so that leaves you with the old acitvation hacks which SP1 catches... which means you are either running a copy you cant patch any more, or have found a l337 hax0r trick that is publicly traded...Or you're using XP and this in no way relates to the topic... delayed burn FTW...

The EULA does not specify it is not. Lenovo, as would any reasonable business, saw this as a legal transaction with an unfamiliar party. Asking them to sign an NDA is not unreasonable. The customer could have done a simple web search and found that people have had a higher success rate going straight to MS. As I did, and found it to be a relatively simple process.

  19. 20 Megs during in-house tech call on Comcast and Net Speed Tests · · Score: 1

I experienced a similar feat with Comcast in the KC area. I moved from an Apt about 4 miles down the road to my first home. In the apt would see an avg of 600k down. When I moved out to the house I noticed that everything seemed significantly slower... So I ran out to speakeasy and avg'd about 4 down and 756 up. This combined with the fact that my TV's on Demand always timed out was enough to have me ask that an in-house tech come over for support. The in-house tech was to come over Saturday afternoon, so that morning I made sure to re-test the line. The results had been similar at speakeasy, 4down and 756 up. This is where the "Magic" begins: The tech shows up, sits in my driveway for about 10min on his phone, comes directly inside and runs a diagnostic video on my OnDemand service. Said there's no problem and it must be a peak usage bottle-neck. ....okay peak usage all week? Which is still intermittently occurring to this day... We then go to my computer and fire up speakeasy *pixie dust* I suddenly increase speed 5 fold, score 20 down, but only 756 up; I tried all the speakeasy test sites. Most range from 20-16 down with 756 - 1.5 up. With the exception of Seattle with shows 5.5 down, and 756 up (probably real speed.) So I question the installer why... he too said it's the "magic" of speed boost. Post his departure I still rock the house at speakeasy but lag everywhere else... I guess the real "magic" of speed-boost is it only works on equally magical sites :( I have no doubt in my mind that they are treating the speed test traffic preferentially.
