Like Stanley's Invaders!, Ledonne and his title stopped short of providing a direct interpretation - neither artist has been especially specific about 'what it means,' or in instructing players on how they should interpret their work or what 'message' should be taken away.
Nor should they. The meaning of art is subjective.
Any good artist is far too emotionally connected to their work to objectively critique it. Explaining the meaning of their work is simply being pretentious. Who are they to tell us how to feel?
Because she is loathed by the critical "undecided" voters. Most of Hillary's people will vote for Obama anyway, and there's no point in courting the "Hillary or nobody" crowd.
If you agree to help someone launder stolen money, that is a crime in most countries even if the money doesn't exist.
Not unreasonably, but as with blackmail it may be that it is more sensible not to prosecute so that the victims are not afraid to come forwards and report the crime.
Wait... so you're saying I can commit crimes and then all I have to do is get blackmailed for it and I'm off the hook? Sweet!
It's not about the money, it's about the thrill, the idea that you could win. Not everything in life is about monetary return on investment.
And for some people it's about addiction. I used to work with a woman who played the lottery every day. She would spend so much on lottery tickets that she'd have to borrow money to pay her rent.
People like that, whether it's self delusion or simply honest stupidity, really don't understand that spending $100 and getting $20 back doesn't make you a winner.
I read this earlier today. One of the justifications for hiring him was to compete with Apple by trying to reduce their image as a "stuffy" company.
I wonder how they think they can achieve that by hiring a middle-aged comedian who hasn't appeared in popular culture for 10 years, and even when he was popular, based his entire routine on whining about pointless social details.
Sorry to reply again, but I think my post was incomplete.
If you want to see an innovative shooter/RPG look at Mass Effect. It's both a purer shooter than Hellgate and a better RPG. Granted, there's no multiplayer, but I've never been impressed with muhmorpergers as RPGs.
The US isn't perfect, but my appraisal of the situation is that in the US you have a chance, elsewhere, not so much.
It's certainly not terrible. It's a beautiful country (I recommend the northwest if you're inclined to visit), and like I said, if you're a citizen it's fine as far all the current police-state nonsense is concerned. I know some Canadians (resident aliens) who aren't too happy with things here right now.
I don't know much about Australia, politically, except that you have draconian video game censorship laws. You're actually the first I've heard negative things from (apart from the aforementioned video game laws).
My argument is just as strong as the argument I was responding to, which claims that the quality of the media affects whether or not someone is going to listen to an argument -- ie, judging the book by its cover.
Except that it does, and people do.
Can you honestly tell me that you've never seen anyone get modded up for a well written post that didn't really say anything? Or conversely someone with a valid point get modded down because they write like an idiot?
That video added nothing to the point Lessig was trying to make, and in fact, actively detracted from it. I agree with every word he said and I thought that video was terrible. It was 16 minutes of poor PowerPoint emulation, bad parodies of Apple marketing, the implication that AT&T is *not* a villainous entity in the same vein as Comcast, and blatant political pandering (all of that Iraq war commentary was a distraction from his main point). Did you actually watch the video or do you just like arguing?
If I'm judging a book by it's cover, then you're too busy trying to see the forest to realize that the trees suck.
Your point seems to be that running a business is hard. It is.
That's why a bunch of gamers/programmers need to hire someone who actually knows how to do it. Don't make excuses for them because they thought they didn't need to bother with those aspects and could just ride Blizzard's coat tails into super-stardom.
I bought and played Hellgate. It's a terrible game, plain and simple. I doubt even a savvy businesscritter could have made that turd into a success.
Either way you look at it, they engineered their own demise, luck has nothing to do with it.
How many people who might vote for mccain either know or care who Lessig is anyway? I won't be voting for McCain, and I'm only marginally aware myself.
I would posit that it doesn't matter if his point is valid and well articulated.
If I weren't a born citizen guaranteed certain rights, I probably would be disinclined to visit the US nowadays. Now granted, those are inherent rights shared by all human beings, but the current regime doesn't respect that.
If it's not true, then the defendant can just turn around and offer the keys to the volume and get the cops in trouble for perjury. I doubt he's innocent, but if he is this could be one of the most satisfying court cases in the history of geekdom. Defending your right to encryption and then catching two police in a blatant lie? Priceless!
If the story is true, he is innocent. Animated child porn is perfectly legal in the US. That doesn't mean he doesn't have evidence of other crimes on his computer, such as copyright infringement, for which he would be quickly charged and convicted.
Granted, not being convicted of pedophilia would probably greatly enhance his chances of not being raped to death in the federal prison system.
Border guards testify that they saw child pornography on the defendant's laptop when the PC was on
wow, so cops testify that it's true? that's good enough for me!
Law enforcement officers are assumed to be credible witnesses. When it comes to trial, it's your word against theirs. Not giving your encryption key would be all the proof of guilt any jury in the US would need.
It's the Catholic Church and other organizations that dress up young girls in such hot outfits who are sick.
Sick... or awesome?
Seriously though, you just called schoolgirl outfits hot (they are), and said the people who thought of it are sick. What does that say about you?
Now granted, I have no desire to sleep with actual schoolgirls, I'm old enough that it would be pretty damn creepy, but there's nothing inherently smutty about a schoolgirl outfit. You're talking about a pleated skirt and knee socks, man, not a Princess Leia slave outfit.
What's sick are the people who let their twelve year old daughters dress in mini skirts and baby-doll shirts that say "SLUT". That's just creepy.

I'm an odd duck anyway. As a kid, I collected RPGs but hardly ever played them. A deranged monomania that has never made any sense to me.
I still do that.
Well, depending on your meaning. I play RPGs all the time, but I buy plenty that I'm almost positive I'll never actually play.

If one of those check cashing operations was helping the Mob handle their transactions they'd get stung for money laundering.
I bet professional money laundering operations take a smaller cut.
I have a policy of always giving money to beggars who say they need it for booze.

The warden, I would assume.
No, I wouldn't. I don't write desktop apps very often, and as a matter of principle I prefer to use cross-platform tools, even if they're proprietary.
But it's been a long time since I've heard someone espouse OpenGL over DirectX based on it's technical merits or ease of use.

You're seriously putting forth a review based on briefly watching someone else play?
Yes, and let me be the first to welcome you to Slashdot.
Did that summary just combine "Digg" and "legitimate" in the same sentence?
There's got to be some rule of English grammar that prohibits that.
Ha! Brilliant! You, sir, are a worthy foe.
Sorry to reply again, but I think my post was incomplete.

I own both Deus Ex and Hellgate. I didn't find either to be terribly impressive, though I'll grant that Deus Ex was innovative.
As for Hellgate, the shooter aspect didn't add much to Diablo, and the Diablo aspect didn't add much to a shooter. Either way it was pretty lame.
The US isn't perfect, but my appraisal of the situation is that in the US you have a chance, elsewhere, not so much.

It's first person. It completely changes the feel of the game compared to a Diablo clone, so that was pretty innovative.
A first-person game where you shoot guns?! I don't know if an idea that innovative could ever catch on.
Now, if they added space marines, they might just be on to something.
How many people who might vote for mccain either know or care who Lessig is anyway? I won't be voting for McCain, and I'm only marginally aware myself.
