    Not true in all states. In Michigan the defendant has the right to move the case from Small Claims Court to a higher court where they can be represented by a lawyer.

    Great! All the huge corps that couldn't put an EMR together when we NEEDED them are going to grab the business now there is a government mandate and federal dollars to spend.

    This isn't Open Standards, this is a money grab.

    Google's job is to return me links I can use. If I can't follow the link, it does me no good, so why show it to me?

    What we don't know from the New Scientist article is if Google "censors" mirrors of the banned sites that are not banned by the Chinese government. Only then would Google not be doing their job.

    You might have presented your assertion with a little more elegance, however this point is quite valid and I had lost sight of it.

    At this point the airlines ARE privately owned (with some heavy government subsidy ie. airports, air traffic control, post 9/11 economic help) and are entitled to require identification to enter their property if they so desire.

    Learned this from a /. post a long time ago and it has guided me in our company's quest for a 2nd factor of authentication. We don't all have the same body parts and a biometric solution needs to work for 100% of the users.

    You weren't listening at the roll-out yesterday. IRM only works for users in your or a trusted domain. Remote users not connected to your "rights server"? SOL.

    IRM seems like a poorly executed marketing ploy that will die a death by neglect.

    BTW I am a NT/2000 MCSE working in Windows every day. (5 windows and 1 redhat box in my office) not your usual "M$ sucks" troll.

    Home schooling is not for every family nor every child. We have home schooled our 3 kids for 6 years. We have no compelling religious nor political reasons, we just thought it was the right thing to do. Time will tell, but it sure looks and feels good now. Our kids attend lots of free lectures at universities, museums, and interest groups. The librarians know them by name. We use the Saxon math system. Resources abound for those who seek them.

    Democracy means freedom to choose Nope. Democracy means you have to choose what Katz-like leaders of the mob demand you choose. A constitutionally limited republic (such as the USA) means freedom to choose. Words mean something, as much as Mr. Katz would like you to believe otherwise.

    #1 Why would you title it internship? #2 Your unwritten rule sucks. I got more exposure to a broader range of stuff in my internships than I have in any 'real' job I've held. 'Real' employees are happy to show stuff and answer questions when you're just an intern and not a threat.

    The pace of cultural change in the western world has accelerated so rapidly that it's reached the breaking point, according to the late anthropologist Margaret Mead. And that was before the Net, and the ascent of role playing and electronic gaming.

    Sentence #1: Margaret Mead hasn't commented on cultural change in about 22 years. A couple things have changed since then.

    Sentence #2: I learned this was bad sentence structure while attending 6th grade.

    Lack of relevance and poor communication skills in the first 2 sentences prevent me from going further. The User-Friendly comic for today has more intellectual value and better grammar.

    Democracy seems to be a defined as whatever Jon Katz wants the mob to believe. How can this fantasy candidate be both a free-marketeer and fight for the equitable distribution of technology?

    Who is going to pay for this equitable distribution? Sorry Jon. A=A. Words mean something. There is a difference between a democracy and a constitutionally limited republic. In your democracy the mob forces me to pay for your free lunch. In a constitutionally limited republic equitable distribution is called theft.

    This kind of garbage is DEMOCRACY in action. In a republic the rights of the individual to manufacture/purchase the hardware of their choice would not be questioned.

    In a democracy, groups such as those who push for "standards" enforced by the government get to abridge the rights of the individual.
