I also find to get a slighlty faster framerate with Doom3 under linux, start up with a failsafe X-session and run it from the terminal. This is the beauty of linux gaming - you can tailor your environment to just how you want it.
The Beatles were brilliant and are brilliant. In fact they are the greatest pop band ever to have existed. Though They Might be Giants come a very close second.
An aquaintence of mine asked me to sort a very cheap PC out for him - he just wanted to browse the web. So I got some bits out of my garage and made a reasonable machine (a P3 600, half gig of ram). I installed DreamLinux on it. He was a happy for a while - then when he wanted to install some crappy video viewer and found he couldn't as it was windows only (well, I found a linux version but it wouldn't install when following my instructions over the phone) he wanted to isntall XP. I said it's not wise but it's up to you. That's the last I heard of him.
It's a shame as I supplied the PC for £50 - and he just increased his costs by another £100 (well, he actually pirated XP but that's not the point).
This has no relevence to this thread at all - I just wanted to let this one out of my system!
I completely agree. For a few years now, I have been saying there must be a decent market for an ultra-basic mobile phone with it's main selling point being a incredibly high battery life. Colour screen, games and a camera all seems a bit pointless if you run out of power and you're away from a charger.

Brilliant thinking - much better than the (interesting but depressing) post before.
Now, If only I could convince my missus not to goto Ikea...The trouble is, that stuff is a lot cheaper (being mass produced) than paying a carpenter for a one off job.
MythTV can be a bit tricky to setup - but it's worth it! I now have it running successfully on 5 computers in my house including an XBox and an eeePC - wirelessly!.
I suppose the 'problem' is that I actually enjoy being faced with problems like this and I gain massive satisfaction when 'I' fix them. Inverted commas for I because generally I just have to search google for the answer:-)
I'm not quite sure that adds up. There is still some milleage left in selling a physical 'thing'. My brother's band (www.epic45.com) actually enjoy the process of making the physical CD, the cover, the artwork, the notes etc as well as making the actual music. And many people still enjoy owning such artifacts.
I'm all in favour of alternative methods of accessing music, I think the whole Radiohead thing was excellent (though I was very dissapointed to see TV adverts a few weeks after the web sale).
Now this moan at the pirate bay is fair enough - as long as the 'moaners' are offering a download themselves.
So, yeah, how simple would it be to install another distro and what distro is on there now?
I mean, would ubuntu run well on it or would I have to use DSL (which I'm tinkering with right now)
Well, I installed Ubuntu and XP onto a friends computer about 6 months ago. He's not a computer whizz by any stretch of the imagination, he hasn't had any problems and never uses the windows install. The best bit is this: when his motherboard died he got his father-in-law to replace it. Which OS worked perfectly afterwards? Ubuntu! Amazing, I really thought it would be linux that had the issues but no, windows fails to startup and Ubuntu works perfectly! Great, linux is the best!
"But while the Apollo lunar lander weighed approximately 10 metric tons, a human mission to Mars will require three to six times that mass, given the restraints of staying on the planet for a year. Landing a payload that heavy on Mars is currently impossible, using our existing capabilities"
Well, I see a simple solution; Build a spacecraft that splits into several separate parts (of approximately "10 metric tons") before entry! Problem solved.
Sorry for posting something totally pointless but I just had to, being a long-term slashdot reader and MASSIVE TMBG fan. TMBG are my favourite band ever, I've adored them since the very first time I heard Ana NG with that awesome guitar riff throughout. Brilliant. I've followed them ever since, going to see them whenever I can (which is rare in the UK) and buying all their albums. Okay, I wasn't overly impressed with 'The Spine' (though some great tracks - Wearing a Raincoat for example) but I reckoned they've returned to form with 'The Else' - I love that album and just hope they play a couple of dates in the UK.
I just also have to mention that I actually got to speak to them a few years ago backstage (Thanks to Jonothan Ross for giving me and my mates the passes - another big TMBG fan) and they are totally cool and really pleasant people.
I have to disagree and agree with you there. I recieved the album about a week and a half ago. My initial impressions were not good. I left it a week and came back to it. And loved it. Give it another go, perhaps concentrate on 'I'm Impressed', 'Upside down frown', 'the cap'm' and the totally excellent 'The Mesopotamians'. I was completely addicted to it last week, I listened to it constantly for about 4 days!

This isn't subjective this is FACT!
This is probably OT

There's a certain Islamic fundementalist group you should talk to.

Xebian (Debian for XBox) works fine on my 64Meg Xbox - plays live TV with MythTV very well too thanks...
I always though it was a clone of Puzzle Bobble

DRM free?

I always liked the video-game version of Scarface - Vice-city. At least that's what it looked like to me!

It's all just evolution doing it's thing - prime candidates for a Darwin Award.

Anyway, long live TMBG!
