I'm going to assume that you're simply ignorant as to the wide-held understanding of the scientific theory of evolution. Simply put, it's about as solidly understood as the shape of the Earth.
I resent the assumption here that the shape of the earth is not currently
disputed. There still exist today "militant athiests" who
believe that the would is a sphere whereas it clearly states
in the Bible that the world is flat. Pleople who persist in spreading these
vicious "round earth" LIES should be named and shamed. They should
not every be allowed to teach children, run companies or Heaven Forbid work in the Government.
Well, as it happens, I am! (English to be more specific.) However, I browse with images switched off so I missed the foot! Duh! Also, as it happens, anyone who watches the Simpsons can't seriously believe that irony is lost on Americans!
You're missing the point. The problem comes when the cpu+board combo is put into a beige box and sold on as a P4, when really it's a Celeron. The reseller of the beige-box is unlikely to advise their customers that they're being done. However, if a customer takes the beige box back to the shop, then the reseller could deny that they knew that the rebranding was their fault.
I agree. However, I think that the auto-completion functions in OOo are even worse. Try writing your address... I'm fed of of: 37, Ardingly Cresent, 38, Lower Beeding, 39, Nr Horsham, 40, West Sussex, 41, RH15 9EF. !!! Can't word processors just FOAD!
Brian Jones says in his blog that he thinks MS Office 12 is the biggest release in over a decade. Actually, he could be right.... for since Offce 95 each release of Office has got steadily worse! Seriously, I still use Office 97 (the oldest version of Office I have**) and, after killing Clippy and his friends, it's probably the best office suite going.
Well, we'll see.... because despite the title of the slashdot posting, Office 12 beta 1 is not really "out".... "out" in my opinion means that I can try it.... so, as soon as it is really "out" I'll give it a try... and then return to Office 97.:-)
** Actually, Office 97 is not the oldest version of Office I have.... I've got a (legit!) copy of Office 3.0 for Macintosh, including the venerable Word 5.1, Excel 4.0 and Powerpoint 3.0. At the time, Office 4.3 (??) with Word 6.0, Excel 5.0 and Powerpoint 4.0 had just been realeased but my rather old Mac wasn't capable of running them. Oh well.
No, I think he meant "there". As in "We don't need to go there." There was also some rather bizare comment about "Spelling Nazis" which I'm not sure I fully understood. Are "Spelling Nazis" related to "Maths Nazis"? Grammar was always my weakjess!
This stuff is transparent Aluminium, in the same way that "normal" glass is transparent Silicon. Indeed, using this criteria, we already had transparent Aluminium in the form of Saphire. Saphire is also rather hard and makes a good optical material. While the invention of a suitably hard and tough transparent material is obviously news-worthy it would be wise to steer clear of the same mistakes that sci-fi writers make when they don't understand the "sci" bit.
However, going back to the Star Trek film in question, I always liked the way that Scotty was able to create a new material and presumably the method for making it on a tiny Apple Mac Plus! Was he using MacDraw I wonder?
I'm using 1.5beta2, and when I clicked on the test
called link
it directed me to a page that said "Mozilla". Nothing bad happened.
Either 1.5B2 is not vulnerable or the test doesn't expose the vulnerability.
vi is in this respect _ALMOST_ as bad as emacs! I ask you, XS for save. What where they thinking?! Gee gads! That's almost as bad as Notepad's F S. Notepad's even worse because it has TWO key sequences for save... the F S which I've already mentioned, and S. Now, that's confusing!
Bring back edlin!! (I can't remember how you saved files in that.....)
I've been playing with Vista beta 1 recently, and I must admit that I prefer the look of it to XP. Many people have said that Microsoft have tried to make Windows more like MacOS X. However, I don't agree with that at all. Windows Vista reminds me more of KDE than OS X. Is that because KDE is copying Windows or vice-versa? I don't know.
What I do know is that on my HP dx2000 w/ a P4 2.8GHz and 512MB ram, Windows Vista _seems_ rather slow. We must not forget it's a beta release though.
Unless of course that someone writes a compiler so optimizing that the code ends before it begins, causing a paradox that will end the universe. To prevent that imminent danger all programmers must start programming in TI-99/4a Basic right now.
Really, if you want to know if someone's a terrorist, just ask them! These people are evil, but no-ones evil enough to lie to a US airport security guard are they?!?
If you know what WPARAM and LPARAM then you know that any Windows programmer
does this sort of thing as a matter of course.
But back to spread-sheets... the limitation that always gets me is the 256 column
limit! Der!
Back to OOo... the thing that REALLY annoys me is that the default formatting
for number truncates to two decimal places (visually, not numerically thank Gordo) , and if you want any more decimal places you have to enter a custom format.
That's why I always end up going back to Excel. As a former scientist that was the main reason I kept on Windows rather than switch to Linux (or BSD or...)
I've been playing around with Longhorn for a few days and my immediate thought was it was trying very desparately catch-up with the MacOS X look and feel. I don't think they've quite got it yet. I know it's only beta code, but it does feel rather sluggish on my HP dx2000 (P4 2.8Ghz 512MB ram) system. I bought a Mac mini recently (G4 1.25Ghz 256MB ram) and that "feels" snappier. If a relatively current PC can't really handle the extra of Longhorn/Vista, then how is older hardware going to cope? I haven't bothered trying it on my (now ancient)Compaq EVO n800v (P4m 1.7Ghz 256MB ram)
What a load of tosh! It would appear you get a story submitted on slashdoty now simply by stating an option which is controversial!
What's next? "SCO's a really great company!" "Osama bid Laden's a really nice guy!" "The Twin Towers needed to be demolished!" "Windows Viruses are a good thing!"
Anyway, as a Windows programmer... the reason why Microsoft should be hated is because: 1) Microsoft's anti-competitive (illegal) practises. 2) Windows over complicated and badly designed architecture(s).
There's no doubt that Microsofts office suite is currently unriveled (Sorry OOo lovers!), but that's mainly becuase Micosoft have squashed all the opposition.
P.S. I recently bought a Mac mini for my mother-in-law. Wow! What a really lovely little computer! And MacOS X is _really_ nice. I've just bought some books on programming Cocoa... just got to buy a Mac now:-) Lets see...

I think if I ever met you in person.... I'd like you :-))
I am English, old chap. Please feel free to generalise all you like!

See, I told you! :-)
Isn't that the Perl code to deCSS?
Sheesh! Irony, it's lost on Americans!!
:-)
I think we're supposed to take this with a certain amount of salt.
OOps, I see you're Canadian. Well, nobody's perfect
No, it's the other way round.
Dell are going to rebadge AMD Sempr0n chips and pass them off
as Intel P4's. The only problem is that the AMD chips will
have better performance. Duh!

Does anyone know if the rootkit has been leaked onto the internet so that we can have a play with it?
What they really need to do is squeeze a nice 20" wide screen display into the space of a 13" dispaly. That would be cool.

Shouldn't this post have been submitted with the

I have to sympathize a bit though... I've just wasted most of this morning sorting out an errant

I'm only really interested to see if my driver (WDM) still works
