It's doing DULL little tasks. Like reading Slashdot. Duh!
Please. 5 years, and there is no end to the virus/spyware problem. And now they, Microsoft, are going to provide "protection" for an additional fee. Why should they do that? Why not include it in Windows XP?
If they were smart, they would release a Windows XP 2 edition that has every little update, and includes 5 years of virus protection. They should charge like $75 for it or something. It would be good PR, and an easy way to make some more money.
Is this related the all those feel good Ads Microcrap is putting on the TV now? The one about them making their software more secure. I think that is the funniest ad spot I've seen in a while.
Exactly. Who wants to run a unstable Open Source Proof of concept program? Oh, probably all you geeks.
I suppose when Korea starts making Audi knock offs, you'd start driving those as well, even though they have like NONE of the performance or features. Whatever. Slashdot and it's articles are getting lame. A duplicate story would have been more interesting (probably one later knowing the "editors").
But you see, that is why a two chip Apple would work. They control all the system variables. You don't have some no name Korean board maker and some no name BIOS to deal with. You know it's going to behave a certain way.
Indeed. However, a lot of applications have not been compiled/optimized for Intel. Now, with Apple pushing for Universal applications, a user could run on either Intel or PPC. Yeah, you can run an application with Rosetta. But, if it can be easily compiled to allow for either chip......
But right now there are applications that can run on BOTH platforms (Intel and PPC). So, why not just keep the option open and have applications be Universal and then it doesn't matter what Chip is inside. It will just simply run.
I think the dumbest thing is to get locked into a chip again. I think it would be really genius to be able to have an OS that runs on anything.
Yet. No money has been given shown given to Democrats YET. But, if you think about it, it makes sense that Republicans are the ones getting all the scandals. They are the party with power, and have had Congress since what, 1994? And they have a lock on the Senate right now as well. So, why would anyone contribute to the Democrats. They have no clout at the moment.
When the winds of politics change, and the Democrats have more power, you'll see just as many scandels on their side.
Azureus has been running all night on my XP machine. It's got 17 things downloading and is seeding 2 things. It's currently taking up 146,240K. Unless you are running on something that doesn't have 512Megs of ram, Azureus is hardly a resource hog...
I currently manage a 700Gig array which I use to store all my stuff. Basically, if you keep it READ ONLY and only allow one user to update things, it works fine. I've had my system up for about 2 years now. I've had one drive fail, and it took the Adaptec controller 24 hours to rebuild the array. Didn't lose anything.
I'm considering getting one of those Buffalo Terastations to back it up with.
I too built a RAID system using a Pentium 4 Chip and an Adaptec 2400a controller. I have 4 250 gig drives RAID 5'd. It's failed once, and I had to rebuild a drive. Did not lose a thing.
I'd like to get a faster controller, and one that would allow me to expand the RAID as drives become faster/cheaper/bigger.
Oh, a couple of others I forgot: Full Metal Panic (all three series), Irresponsible Captian Tyler, Saiyuki (hate the voice acting in the second series), Sol Bianca, and of course, the Star Blazer series.
As a weekly watcher of the subs, I thank you.
The filler episodes, so far, have been alright. It will be more interesting after this week's 1 hour episode, when the rest of the people come back.
Who cares about FF. Get to dubbing Bleach or other great Animes out there.

A OS that has software that I'd want to use. iLife. Or Logic, or Protools. None of these are on Linux....

Howard Dean has been under a Wasp's control since before the election.......
Really now.....and when he takes a crap people die?
I dunno, 24 is a little boring this season. The last 2 episodes were kind of...*yawn*
My drink of choice is Diet Pepsi with some Emer'gen C Raspberry mixed in. It's really good. Seriously!

Funny, Apple has been doing that for a LONG TIME...........Since, um, OS X came out? Actually, before that, with System 9 updates.....
Yes, the Steve. He is my idol. Black turtlenecks and blue jeans is my choice of wears. God, I love the Steve.
Seriously. NT is what, 10 years old? With all the resources MS has, they still can't get it right. Pity really.
I agree. I get the sense as well he has no clue, nor does Microsoft as a whole.....
Still sounds like a PR script he typed out to me.....
Let see, we already have all this with Trillian and Adium. Why do I need IBM doing it?

Azureus, because my downloads matter. And, it works on a Mac. Plus, it has plug ins such as SafePeer to keep those pesky people away.....
And people pay for subscriptions to these triple postings........very very sad.
There is this great thing called EBAY. You can get anything there. You don't need the same drive, you need one of equal size or BIGGER.
The system you suggest is stupid if you want to hold a LOT of data, like music or videos or whatever, and hold them securely. RAID 5 is the way to go.
