As a weekly watcher of the subs, I thank you.

The filler episodes, so far, have been alright. It will be more interesting after this week's 1 hour episode, when the rest of the people come back.

It's doing DULL little tasks. Like reading Slashdot. Duh!

Please. 5 years, and there is no end to the virus/spyware problem. And now they, Microsoft, are going to provide "protection" for an additional fee. Why should they do that? Why not include it in Windows XP?

If they were smart, they would release a Windows XP 2 edition that has every little update, and includes 5 years of virus protection. They should charge like $75 for it or something. It would be good PR, and an easy way to make some more money.

Exactly. Who wants to run a unstable Open Source Proof of concept program? Oh, probably all you geeks.

I suppose when Korea starts making Audi knock offs, you'd start driving those as well, even though they have like NONE of the performance or features. Whatever. Slashdot and it's articles are getting lame. A duplicate story would have been more interesting (probably one later knowing the "editors").

Indeed. However, a lot of applications have not been compiled/optimized for Intel. Now, with Apple pushing for Universal applications, a user could run on either Intel or PPC. Yeah, you can run an application with Rosetta. But, if it can be easily compiled to allow for either chip......

  9. Re:Apple too soon or IBM too late? on Apple Switched Chips Too Soon? · · Score: 4, Insightful

But right now there are applications that can run on BOTH platforms (Intel and PPC). So, why not just keep the option open and have applications be Universal and then it doesn't matter what Chip is inside. It will just simply run.

I think the dumbest thing is to get locked into a chip again. I think it would be really genius to be able to have an OS that runs on anything.

Yet. No money has been given shown given to Democrats YET. But, if you think about it, it makes sense that Republicans are the ones getting all the scandals. They are the party with power, and have had Congress since what, 1994? And they have a lock on the Senate right now as well. So, why would anyone contribute to the Democrats. They have no clout at the moment.

When the winds of politics change, and the Democrats have more power, you'll see just as many scandels on their side.

The system you suggest is stupid if you want to hold a LOT of data, like music or videos or whatever, and hold them securely. RAID 5 is the way to go.

I currently manage a 700Gig array which I use to store all my stuff. Basically, if you keep it READ ONLY and only allow one user to update things, it works fine. I've had my system up for about 2 years now. I've had one drive fail, and it took the Adaptec controller 24 hours to rebuild the array. Didn't lose anything.

I'm considering getting one of those Buffalo Terastations to back it up with.

I'd like to get a faster controller, and one that would allow me to expand the RAID as drives become faster/cheaper/bigger.
