  5. Who cares about Google? I'm more worried about Uber getting rewarded for ripping them off. If Uber stole shit from Google or cheated on their research by betraying Google's trust, then the last thing I want is for Uber to get rewarded for it.

    All this proves is that the insurance lobby has a deathgrip on politics.

    Kowtowing to it is not the right answer. What the US needs to do is break up the cartel and introduce some competition. Insurance companies make obscene profits.

    You can, however, copyright the patent.

    But once the USPTO publishes it, it probably becomes a government work in the public domain.

    Use good AI to optimize efficiency, but detect human drivers and give them a wider margin of safety.

    As far as the morals of saving pedestrians vs passengers or drivers, lets not forget the bittorrent protocol.

    Game theory, and real life itself, deal with cooperation vs defection, and any car that selflessly seppukus their own to spare a greater number is going to get taken advantage of by less scrupulous algorithms.

    Anyone trying to program an AI on how to handle a car accident should not forget this.
