Or maybe what society usually defines as 'right' and 'wrong' could be simply called for what it is.
I believe you could have a healthy society that defines its laws based on logic (and its own best interest) without sugar coating it with terms like 'right' or 'wrong'.
So while I don't believe there is absolute evil, I do believe allowing any person to rape/kill any other random person is logically unhealthy to society and therefore should be outlawed in some way or another.
Yeah, because it's unthinkable (hand to mouth, loud gasp) that someone might even think about donating to a cause they enjoy, like mathematics or specifically prime crunching.
If you were to find a 10,000,000 digit prime today the above rules imply that $3,333 would go to Michael Cameron, discoverer of the 39th known Mersenne prime, $3,333 would go to Michael Shafer, discoverer of the 40th known Mersenne prime, $3,333 would go to Josh Findley, discoverer of the 41st known Mersenne prime, $3,333 would go to Dr. Martin Nowak, discoverer of the 42nd known Mersenne prime, $6,667 would go to Curtis Cooper and Steven Boone the discoverers of the 43rd and 44th known Mersenne prime, $5,000 would go to GIMPS, $25,000 would go to charity, and $50,000 would go to you.
This is great news, I've been crunching Mersenne numbers myself and it's nice to finally see a potential >10M digit one.
I run Hidden Palace, a website devoted to preserving unfinished versions of games (prototypes) and unreleased games (for various reasons, mostly that the media isn't forever, it decays after 10-15 years)
I spend tens of thousands of dollars on this stuff, when companies like this just ignore it. Most companies throw stuff like this out (SEGA got rid of most of its stuff in ~2001, a lot of unreleased games got destroyed this way).
I hated when the one patch they released killed the ability to make rejuvenation potions from health and mana potions. Instead of being able to actually play and enjoy the game, I had to keep stalking places where I could find them instead until I had enough to cube together into full rejuv potions.
You still can, IIRC, you have to include low quality gems now.
In Diablo 2, you mostly don't have to hoard potions, as the health and mana ones are dirt cheap -- eventually, it's possible to let go of the hoarder mindset.
And then, you have the rejuvenation and full rejuvenation potions, which heal both health and mana, instantaneously, and which you cannot buy. I usually hoard tons of them 'for tough spots', which of course never come.
You're out of touch with reality. For most people, the only thing keeping them from looting a supermarket are the social/legal/moral consequences of the act.
With age only having 6 bits, you get 0..64 (unless you allow for signed values too:P), and some people above 64 actually do visit websites.
For system details, I'd say a lot more bits than that. If you want truly unique values for every setup, you'd have to do a 4-byte+ unique manufacturer ID and model ID, and that's for every hardware component in the system.
IPv6 is 128-bits; without the MAC it's 64 bits.
Indexes for interests probably take way more than 30 bits. Same for address (considering that each character is 7-8 bits using ASCII)
5-digit zip codes are 5 digits * 4 bits per digit (unless you compress numbers) = 20. 9-digit zip codes are 36, analogically.
You must not interact with people much. Most people use ad personam arguments and such on a daily basis, or basic the power of their arguments on the loudness of their voice or, like here, their personal tragedy and its perceived importance.

Someone did write it first :P
Scary.
slashdot troll as an occupation, must be fun :P

Oh, the humanity!
Thanks for the laugh, especially after ranting about people misunderstanding statistics/probabilities for the N-th time :P
Same here, mate.
Well, it was fun while it lasted. Plus, there's still the 100M digit (and 1B digit) prize.
Yes, half of it.

It's sad...

Shouldn't your sig say "4523 BCE" and not "4523 BC"?
A friend invested in Nintendo shares before they released Wii and NDS Lite. It was a good investment :P
Or, we could abandon the nationalism altogether. Should it be about the athletes or the athletes' countries?
I realize that your idea is a bit disconnected from the topic, so it's not a jab at you or anything, just something I wanted to express.
Not all people are affected by embarrassment.
Your math is a bit off.

Anyway, sorry to nitpick
And this was before $ stood for United States Peso.
I'll say, that's an interesting use of entropy.
Crushing blow, hehe.
Hear that? It's the sound of a thousand nerds googling "Grover's Mill, New Jersey" up :)

Hehe, my thoughts exactly.
They could always buy Wikipedia... wait.
The strong force is one of the four fundamental forces. They are gravitation, EM force, weak force and strong force.
They didn't really state it was unbeatable, just that it beats human players easily, most of the time.
