Did they use 2's complements like we do? How did they handle their floating point operations?
Alas, it's a cruel trick. If you read the article, you'll see some brainless twits are hyping this otherwise legitimate paper, and the Mangarevans didn't really use binary math. They just multiplied by 2.
Yes, this is the party line of the class action lawyer. "May be entitled to compensation" and "let the courts decide" are terms commonly used in East Texas.
I understand that stocks drop temporarily on bad news. Class action lawyers solicit clients who happened to sell when the price was down, incurring a loss. So much the better if this happened to be a institution. If an award or settlement eventually occurs, years down the road, the clients may recover part of their losses, which is likely to be much less than 6.4% of their investments, while the law firm will make hundreds of millions of dollars.
IBM stock price (and market cap) dropped only 6.4 percent. This is just one more stupid shareholder lawsuit, some lawyers trying to make money when a company's stop price drops. It's nice that/. can contribute to the hype.
We should ban talking altogether. Terrorists have been known to use speech in training as well as in the execution of terrorist attacks. Child pornographers and drug cartels are also frequent users of speech.
and...
Charge people $5,000 a pop to avoid RIAA copyright lawsuits? Profit.
Charge people $3,000 a pop to avoid vague patent lawsuits? Profit.
This right and wrong stuff gets so confusing!
Most of the time the GIMP color correction oversaturates and, in my opinion, mangles the image. By the same token, I prefer the natural sound without mangling it with enhancements.
There is an Air Defense Identification Zone all around the U.S. as well. In addition, there's one around Washington D.C. Unfortunately, when they added that one 2003 they installed backwards. It keeps people out of Washington airspace instead of keeping the politicians penned up inside.
This is just about the most inefficient programming combination ever devised, with the possibly exception of machine code without libraries. Why in the world doesn't Google provide a real language so we can bypass the archaic syntax and semantics of html and css? HELP! I'M STUCK IN THE MESOZOIC ERA OF PROGRAMMING AND I CAN'T GET OUT!!!
How many years (or months) will it be before some splinter group hits a U.S. political delegation with a drone strike somewhere outside the U.S.? They will see no reason not to do this.
From the article: "It is well known that the altitude at which a data center resides has consequences with regards to machine fault rates. The two primary causes of increased fault rates at higher altitude are reduced cooling due to lower air pressure and increased cosmic ray-induced neutron strikes."
So?
That's what Flintstones Chewables are for.

Are you hallucinating? The downward trend for IBM began in March.

It's odd how this gas has been used for 100 years and is still "newly discovered".

Sounds like fiat money, such as U.S. Dollars. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money
Motorcycle? Get an airplane, you Luddite!
There's nothing exciting or complex about this idea. I imagine it's being done in many, if not most, any dating sites.
If they get to patent this garbage, we should disband the USPTO.
Why do those lists have so many ad companies white listed?
That would explain the record crops of opium in Afghanistan.
If it's fun, there's not much opportunity cost.
Once again, someone forgot to run the numbers. It's not practical, and certainly not news. How does this trash make into /. ?
