what's so good about vim? it doesn't come with a calender, a browser or the AI language. if you have to edit a 10k file, there is less overhead and it will strip down to fit on a rescue floppy disk if you subtract all that gvim gui nonsense.

the feature of having multifacits key typing is for the day when motion detecting is use for input. all the vim users will have an inherent twitch that will be reconizable to these devices and thus make them superior.

the beauty of vim is that you can flick people off while typing in code and without taking your hand off the keyboard. plus you don't have the distraction of pron from the web or usenet.

User applications can have all their information and binaries pertaining to the application in one resource folder. For example, all things related with a DVD player will be in one folder and not scattered across /etc, /usr/doc, /usr/bin /usr/share. you still have /etc, /sbin, /user/sbin for daemons and stuff.

The GUI will hide everything that's in the application's folder and represent it as an icon that you can click on (which will launch the reall binary that's nested inside the folder).

The CLI doesn't hide or fake anything. It shows you what the directory system really looks like.

Config files for applications are in XML format. You can edit them using a CLI tool (vi) or a GUI tool.

I think these features will help the common user. It doesn't take away from the fact that OS X is still UNIX and that haxors still get to use the CLI.

okay, since no one is complaining about .NET, I'll be the first. *cough cough*.

i'm worried about .NET. MS's history with it's partners is about as fair as having a knife in your back while MS takes your wallet. the cut throat tatics that they use to buy or kill competition has given them a very profitable monolpoly. this has given end users a common platform and standard to use. which is , again, as good as having a knife to your back, since (like in the past) they've use it for their benefit. to be fair, they are doing this for consumers. heh.

another thing, linux isn't going to die just because it doesn't have a .NET solution. SUN has more to fear. SUN relies on money and services to compete. linux doesn't, it's free software. it will only faulter if geeks ceased to exist. for example, if if red had died, there will still be debian or at least slackware.

.NET can burn in hell, but i agree about not taking the license too seriously. it's still open source, which isn't as strict as "free", but we get to see the code and use it. which means a lot to me since i can then use it for OS X and maybe, just maybe learn a thing or two.
