  1. loved it, but be patience with the youngens. on Review: Spiderman · · Score: 1

i had been waiting for a spider-man movie for a very long time. ever since i saw superman I the movie was fun to see and i'm so glad that sam raimi directed it. unfortuately while watching it there was a group of teenagers that teased each other and giggled during the whole movie. i ended up being harshed and telling them to shutup 5 minutes before the movie ended. i regret that since now i feel like a bully and i understand that they are just being young. i was like that at their age.

i didn't think and went to a showing that started after the schools got out. then i wasn't ready to be around teenagers. so let this be a warning to everyone. don't get too excited and pick a show time that's right after school!

and whatever you do. try not to lecture the kids about comic history. ;)

don't worry, the PS2 will last for another year or so. that'll make it have lasted more than 2 years. ;)

sony was planning on releasing the PS3 later and reap in the profits to pay for the expense of developing the PS2 but felt pressure to ship it earlier because MS is one big ruthless company with lots of $$. not that sony isn't one big ruthless company with lots of $$. sony is pretty much using its advantages as the top player to release a product to make the XBOX obsolete.

i personally don't mind this because i get to see new neat hardware that better be compatible for PS2 games. but, expect the consoles to last no longer than 3 years. it use to be a 5 year industry.

from a business point of view, yes, they are pretty smart people. we should congradulate them.

But, from a personal point of view, i hate their guts. i use to be a sysadmin and it brought me hatred for the company. i had to maintain windows boxes (desktops and servers) and for industry strength products i had to reboot them constantly. if i didn't i would be woken up at 3am to go down to work and reboot them. even in some cases i had to wake up at 3am to go down and reboot them. it required that we have redundant machines for one service on a windows platform. that meant 2 more machines i had to maintain compared to the alternatives. when security holes were found it took them a very long time to release a patch. my job was to just say "okay, i'll wait while my server is vunerable". worst yet when they release the servie packs for windows it would include the latest patches but also include new features and bugs if not more security holes. i'll stop there with this part of my rant.

and don't get me started on the MS certified money grubbing dorks. they make me hate MS even more.

i just felt like i've been burned so many times for using MS products that ,yes, i have a double standards to them. i've taken it personal. i don't trust them and have been burned so many times by their products. For god sakes they stood up in court and nationally lied! what was up with the fake video presentation? they are showing that they are above the law and this makes me hate them more.

MS leaves a bad taste in my mouth so i want them gone. Sony only made bad wireless phones but provided nice equipment and entertainment that i want them to stay. long live the PS2 becuase it hasn't hurt me the way MS has.

no, no. what MS needs are sweet original games for the xbox. they have sweet games now but many of them did not come out for the xbox first. SSX tricky is a sweet game but everyone already played it on the PS2. Metal Gear Solid 2 is a sweet game but all the hype and anticipation was already done on the PS2. even Final Fantasy X (if really ported to XBOX) had already had the hype. MS just gets sloppy seconds so this doesn't give it any credibility and worst yet what it does get primary are PC games! so it looks like a PC, smells like a PC.

a PR figurehead to whom? it seems like his job is to talk to the C++ developers and ask them what they need. he then figures out what is actually a good request for features and what is just wishful thinking and tries to get MS to deliver. In also doing that he's going to be getting VC++ standards compliant! so as i see it the only person that has to listen to him is the MS employees. he's more an C++ evangelist targeting MS than anyone else.

still, if he was a figurehead, he's pretty credible and i would listen to him.

it'll be great if he delivers on his promises. if VC++ becomes standards compliant even somewhat MS can't take that away. they will be forced to always support it for a very long time.

Further, what is the damn reason for the different modes, command mode, visual mode? WTF? It basically serves no practical purpose. Other excellent text editors implement all the same features without resorting to such asinine things...

what other editors let you navigate using keyboard commands? i know most people are frustrated with this feature but it's helpful if you're scrolling up or down without having to use the arrow keys. otherwise the movement keys would be useless

once you get use to vim though, other editors become annoying and this is probably a good reason for not using vim. i was using BBEDIT and got frustrated having to hit the menu or a key combination to do a search for text. then i started to miss being able to scroll up or down the exact amount of pages without using the mouse. if i wanted to delete a word i had to position the mouse, highlight or double click on the word and then hit the delete key or use the cut option from the mouse menu key. this isn't a big deal unless you're use to the swiftness of just typing in "dw" [delete word].

with that said, my advice is to stay the hell away from vim. once you get use to it, it may ruin you for other editors.
