A two-parter. I had read before you were making Civ III that you were planning on merging the two worlds of Civilization and Alpha Centauri, giving the player the ability to play through a big "sweep of time". Was this idea just too ambitious, and had to be shelved for the design process, and will it be revisited? If so, what about the design specifically was it that put this idea on the back-burner?
The way he's scared before he runs for the card makes it even sadder. There are so many subtle touches in that small block of text.
You stop and wonder...that's just text...WHY HAS NOBODY MATCHED THIS?! Story doesn't take compile time. It doesn't add tons of developers to the proejct. Story takes no processing power.
Yet, for the most part, it's the least developed part of any video game. This stuff drives me insane. Especially when I hear people talk about how Halo has such an awesome plot. Sigh...
The "significant additional bonus content" has already been reported to be jack shit.
1 of 9 collector's cards? Behinds the scenes footage? Who cares.
Meanwhile on the other hand Firaxis is offering:
Collector's case: Navy blue "leatherette" bookshelf case embossed with the Civilization IV logo.
CD Soundtrack: Containing original compositions by Christopher Tin (http://christophertin.com/news.html) and Jeffrey Briggs (composer of Civilization II), as well as classical pieces throughout the ages.
Keyboard template: A die-cut keyboard layout for quick reference to keyboard commands during the game.
Tech Tree map: A foldout poster that displays the tech tree for ease of reference. A tech tree is a path you need to take with your scientific research in the game in order to reach certain goals. The path you take helps shape the society you create and help shapes you as a leader. Here's an example: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/techtree/
Spiral bound manual: The 250pp+ manual is upgraded from the standard perfect bound to a spiral bound version, allowing it to sit flat while open.
All this for the low, low price of FREE if you preorder. Microsoft wouldn't know "excellent consumer value" if it kicked them in the nuts and punted their dog off a suspension bridge.
Um...the UN Agreement Governing the Activities of States on the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies seems to stop it pretty good.
From Article 11:
1. The moon and its natural resources are the common heritage of mankind, which finds its expression in the provisions of this Agreement, in particular in paragraph 5 of this article.
2. The moon is not subject to national appropriation by any claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.
Article 1 declares that while they refer to the moon for the rest of the document, it applies to the rest of the bodies in the solar system, as well.
Anyway, she needs to be dead in order for Meteo to be stopped. That was the whole reason she died. She was there to help form Holy, and organize the Life Force into blocking Meteo.

These are good. I think the point about losing is a significant thing that people don't actually think about enough.
I want the world to actually be affected by the events of the game...hence the persistant universe, not just a persistent character.
If I put Villain X behind bars, he should be there for at least a week. Not something where in another 5 minutes he's back at full strength, base, minions, etc, included.
Until an MMORPG can wrap their heads around that concept, count me out for a while. I feel no need to plunk down a monthly fee for a game experience that's less fun than what I can get offline.
The point was, that it's likely that this was a continuation of the game Microsoft started and canned years ago.
It's kind of hard to find a link seeing as how Shadowrun the pen & paper RPG, Shadowrun the SNES game and Shadowrun the Genesis game all have more active fan communities and such, and therefore come up first. The fact that the game has assassins in it doesn't help my cause either. Overrated, Troll, whatever, it's all wrong. That's not misinformation and it's not trolling.
Kinda clunky, but we'll probably reorganize that section out in the future, so it divides the Vintage area into sub-catgories.
Once the 360, PS3, and Revolution have been out for a couple years, we'll push the Playstation 2, Xbox, and GC stuff over into the Vintage section as well.
If you're still hungry for some nostalgia, you can always head over the Netjak. We do have an entire section devoted to good, bad, and hideous vintage titles.

This was announced and canned like 5 years ago. Microsoft had the rights to Shadowrun and had announced a game called Shadowrun: Assassins.
The game was *gasp* an FPS.
About a year and a half into production, Microsoft canned it. The game starred a scantily clad heroine, and basically looked nothing like Shadowrun. This is probably that game.
In my opinion, the most important thing to remember in trying to teach someone is that everyone learns differently. If you can "slot" the kids for certain disciplines, you're able to then try and explain theing that they might not normally grasp (say math and science) and it would just be lost on them if you gave them the generic "throw information at them and hope it sticks" method.
I'm not saying they're going to be branded forever. I was just saying for the webpage exercise.
Basically, though, you're going to need to get a feel for how each child is trying to absorb the knowledge and find a method that delivers it to them in a way that they can easily digest.
You have to start from the ground up. People keep trying to throw money at High School, but the kids have been lost at that point, you have to keep them locked in through Elemnetary School. Gotta have a foundation of learning first.
As part of my Elementary school education, I'd have kids make webpages. Probably around 4th or 5th grade, I'd split the kids into teams: 1 of the logical kids, 1 of the writing kids, and 1 of the artistic ones and then have them use Dreamweaver or something generally easy to use, and put together a webpage. I think this would help them be proud of something they made that they could see "in public", and it would also help train the disciplines they were predisposed to.
But, maybe if they do these shows enough, they'll get to do one where they actually send the people into space.
Yeah, probably not. But it was worth a shot.
Seriously. More people need to tak your advice, and the advice that I've been giving. Just start renting games if you need to play ASAP.
Seriously. F.E.A.R. is nominated for Game of the Year. Just a bit early, methinks...
I was about to say the same thing, AC.
GoGamer.com is where I shop for my PC games, unless there's a really, really kick-ass exclusive on the pre-order, like the big chains had for Civ IV.

Worst sex scene in a game, ever.

I agree with most of these responses.
I would also add:

This is hilarious considering how badly Koster screwed the pooch on SWG.
He basically establishes that his model is a complete real-world failure, and yet, people keep inviting him to speak at places.
I liked Geom. I thought that would have made it into the Puzzle section, but apparently they haven't reviewed it yet.
If you're going to resort to alliteration, don't force two words together. In the words of Bill Walton, "that's just terrrrrible".
