I know, but it makes no difference to the end-user who originally made it, just where they can get it now. Hell, if NBC only showed the best shows from other networks, I'd never change the channel.
IIRC (I could be wrong on all this, but I seem to remember it from somewhere...), businesses pretty much own the Japanese government, even more so than how it is in the US. Sony, being one of the biggest corporations around, has some major clout.
You have to realize that there are cultural differences at play, too - what may seem unfair here may be viewed as fair, and even something to strive for, there. IE - "If they've put forth the work into getting into that position, they deserve it."
Even if games don't support it, though, there's still a slight performance increase from all the other crap you have running in the background running on a separate core from your game.
Unfortunately, Pioneer can't do that, because they don't control any media powerhouses. If someone like Sony were to decide to go DRM-less (not a chance in hell, but just for discussion's sake...), they could put out both the hardware AND the media without DRM. Then, when the DRM players came out, people's old media wouldn't work, and that would create the uproar. Without that media link, though, the Pioneer player wouldn't have anything to play, because the media companies are the ones that want the DRM.
Some of the houses are quite elaborate like this house in British Columbia that has 87,625 computer controlled lights synchronized to an FM radio station.... and 20 neighbord that want his death. Synchronization of death to the radio station unnecessary, but preferred.
Much like music, there ARE a lot of original ideas, it's just that nobody buys them.
Witness Katamari Damacy - incredibly fun game, but nobody has heard of it. Shadow of the Colossus is amazing. Guitar Hero is great to play with a bunch of friends. I thought Psychonauts was the best game I've played in YEARS, but it sold horribly.
Hell, even the classics can be fun if they're done well enough. Dragon Quest's gameplay hasn't really changed since the beginning of the series, but DQ8 is one of the best RPGs out there. Even it is selling badly, though.
These games will never sell as well as because the masses are stuck in their little FPS box. Either that, or they're all too busy playing WoW.
While the music industry shouldnt gouge its customers for every last cent possible, why is there a sense of entitlement on the part of some slashdotters to everything that isnt bolted to the floor?
It wants to be free, man! It WANTS to!
Now, excuse me for a second, this new Z06 wants to be free as well...
Actually, in this case, I believe it's going to be the PS3 which decides the winner. There are going to be millions of these in homes, and there's no way HD-DVD will be able to keep up.
Actually, a very good example of this is the Ford 3.8L V6 engine. The materials for the heads were changed without notifying Ford, and therefore they expand at a different rate as was originally designed. That's why certain years of this engine is notorious for blowing the headgaskets.

If you think that AIM never goes down, you have no idea what you're talking about. I've had AIM shit out on me MANY, MANY times, and yes, this is with the actual AIM client. It'll kick me off, and I won't be able to sign in for a few minutes, sometimes it'll get stuck at verifying login/password and just sit there until it times out, etc.
AIM has its server problems too.
Also, not everyone who disagrees with you is an astroturfer. As hard as it may be to believe, some people might ACTUALLY have different experiences and opinions as you.
The XBoxes locking up has to do with their power supply overheating. Although I haven't heard of any incidents yet, this is indeed a hazard, and there SHOULD be a recall on the PSUs. The fact that this is so widespread makes it obvious that they really rushed these out and didn't test them properly.
Also, you can't just take it back to the store and get a new one, as there aren't any new ones to get.
Bah, death is just proof that you're that hardcore.

Is Japan lax on anti-trust legislation?

Although the change will mean very little for the citizens, it's a message that they're declaring this stance instead of leaving it de facto.
Actually, it could mean a lot if it prevents things like the broadcast flag.
I still have no clue what "linuchs" are, though :(
NBC has The Office, and that's enough to redeem them in my eyes.

It's good to see Psychonauts on that list. I thought it was easily the best game of the year, but it seems like it got no love from the public.
So what you do is sell it for free after rebate with a 2-year XBox-live subscription requirement.

Oh shit, I just bought a copy of that a couple weeks ago, I wonder if I'm next.
Actually, I JUST saw that channel last night. I give it 2 months before they're playing "real world" reruns.
It's funny, MTV became so overrun with non-music that they created MTV2 for the music. Now, the same thing is starting to happen with MTV2.
In addition to that, human children are conditioned to do exactly what they're told. This will have an influence on things.

What kind of sick joke is it to give a gamer a Linux CD?
But that also restricts them to buying a game from Best Buy, and even with the coupon, their prices are rarely the best.
It's all about the cash, baby.
And you guys said that this feature was bad! They're just looking out for us, bless their hearts!
That's why I'm a cat person. Kitty goes out, Kitty comes back in. She ain't dumb, she knows where her food dish is.
Funnily, I've seen FAR more "lost cat" posters than "lost dog" posters.
