Close. Kids today are born and bred on WINDOWS computers. They're used to everything being handed to them in a nice little package. As the years go on, they think, "Hey, computers are easy!".
Then you show them Linux. A select few will say, "wow, this is damned cool." The rest will say "Why bother? There's no point. I already have my nice-little-user-friendly Windows box right here. Show me ONE advantage that Linux has for me (that I really give a damn about), and MAYBE I'll give it a chance." And chances are, there won't be any advantages to give them.
These kids grew up on computers running Windows. Most of them will stick with what they know.
A linux only game that is top of the line that everyone wants to play will be what makes linux a platform worth gaming on.
Except that's never going to happen.
If a company has a good game, they're going to want to get it out to the most people. Linux, I'm sure, doesn't even have 1/20th the amount of gamers that Windows has.
So lets see, which option makes the most sense to Mr. gamemaker?
It seems that these people expect everything to go their way, but if it doesn't, they bitch and whine about it because they think it's caused by the fact that they're a minority. Some people think that they should get special treatment only because they belong to a minority group. Hmm, isn't that just as unfair as getting special treatment only because you belong to a MAJORITY group?
NEWSFLASH! The world doesn't exist for your benefit. These things happen to EVERYONE. Grow up a little.
So the guy got passed over for a promotion. Big deal! I can't begin to tell you how many times I've been passed over for one, when other, LESS QUALIFIED, people get it instead. Oh well. That's the way that businesses work, it never makes any sense. Especially in a large company like MS, I'm sure it's extremely easy to get overlooked.
One thing that jumps out at me about this whole deal is the money they want. 5 billion dollars?! Hm, this kinda reeks of "Hey, MS is rich! Let's try and get money out of them any way we can! Wait, we're a minority! HOW CONVENIENT!"
Oh, and on a side note, I love how the Slashdot crew passed over a bunch of great submissions (I'm sure) for a chance to bash MS. If this were any other company, they wouldn't touch the story.

Note1: I said 'maybe'.
Note2: The game was still in development, but it just seemed to disappear from sight... with it's director gone, they're no doubt having many troubles.
Even if it *IS* still going to come out, though, It will probably suffer massive delays like the first one did... ugh.

Shenmue 2 drops from sight
[10.05.00] With troubles plaguing developer AM2 and Sega's webpage mum, the future of Yu Suzuki's second gift looks grim.
When development of Sega's epic Shenmue proved to be too ambitious in scope, producer Yu Suzuki decided to split the project up into multiple chapters: Chapter 1 would come first as Shenmue, Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5 would follow as Shenmue 2, and the remaining 15 would be developed and released at a later date. But following lackluster Japanese success of the first installment and new happenings within Sega, the future of Shenmue 2 is now in doubt.
For starters, head Shenmue director Keiji Okayasu quit AM2 last month, quickly following the departure of a close colleague. Sega has also failed to make any mention of the game on the release date section of its Japanese webpage, even within the "release date undecided" category. Additionally, all mentions of "Chapter 1" in the Japanese version have been nixed in the U.S., and the game was nowhere to be found at Sega's glitzy CyberClub gathering held earlier in Japan.
When asked to comment, gamers.com reports Shenmue developer AM2 asserted that the game is still in production and "will definitely be released... We will make a formal announcement once we decide the release date." While heartening, even firmer assurance was given in July to fans worried about the future of Mother 3/Earthbound 64. A month later, the game was cancelled.
Being clueless with networking (I'm surprised I actually got my mini-network up and running), I have a question.
Does anyone know if this would work when connected to a box with internet sharing?
The way I have my two computers hooked up now, is I have a win2k box downstairs connected to my cable modem, with internet sharing on. Then I have that computer plugged into a little baby-hub and a cable from the hub running up here to my computer (also running win2k).
Just wondering if I could just plug the cable that's running into this comp into the DC and have it work...
I suppose the question is, "why did you go into best buy to find a video?"
seriously, don't you have a Suncoast or something like that that's DEDICATED to selling videos? They'd probably have all the videos, not to mention several boxed sets, etc. etc.
I'm sure/. has been fooled, but that's not NEARLY as funny as when some of the people on these forums I post on got half the world to believe that Eminem was dead by creating a fake CNN address...

... and even if Bush DOES get Florida, he's STILL not necessarily the winner. They still have to do the electoral vote, and (as unlikely as this may be), the electors can vote for whoever the hell they want, not necessarily who they're 'supposed' to. They could all vote for ME and I could become president.

Well it's a *lot* more stable than win98, which would crash on me about once/day.

AHAHAHA! That was REALLY FUNNY!! Bashing Microsoft! I've never seen such hilarity before! Woo!
Geez, all sarcasm aside, I'm running Win2k, and my computer has been stable as hell since I installed it. (2 weeks and counting, no crashes/BSODs/etc)
Their hardware is very nice as well... anybody ever used the intellimouse optical? Sweet.
