Our Cell phone rates however, are significatly higher then the US and I'm sure else where in the world.

My fault entirely for not actually trying a model out first.
It's big, clunky and pig slow. It uses a 33mhz Dragon Ball processor, to power it's (beautiful) 320x320 display.
The thing tends to freeze up when attempting to open graphically intense website, I think that's probably because of the low processor with a hi res display.
And to top it off, I've had the unit replaced 3 times since I first got it in Dec 2003.

I would highly recommend staying away from such a useless tool.

I have no doubt they spend loads of money on R&D. But the fact that they own the plant out right is scary. What happens when seeds are found on someone elses property? People get sued by corporations. This has already happened (at least in Canada).
Something like a short patent life span could possibly make the concept bareable. But strict controls need to be in place on how and where these would grow, what about their seeds (i.e. they should be infertile if thats even possible).

something like a usb 2.0 / firewire / scsi connection for an external tape drive or even an external HD to back it up to would be ideal. Otherwise you've got all your data in one spot, which is fine until shit happens..
