I agree. Anyone have any idea how much it costs to take a cybersquatter to court? My band's domain name is currently being squatted on. There are alternatives but nothing that's any good is available. I registered something that's a mediocre replacement at best just as a back up, but it'd be nice to be able get the name I want seeing as how no one is actually using it.

It's nothing like TF2. TF2 is fun and amazing and BH is not. I'm not sure how much it's changed since I played it at PAX last year but back then we got bored playing it pretty fast and moved on and tried something else. It's an interesting idea but it's just not that fun.

I'd like to thank Microsoft for continuing to price their OS in a way that encourages piracy. If it were reasonably priced there'd be no excuse. But as it stands, it's like CS4 -only businesses and successful freelancers can really afford it. Everyone else is either getting screwed or pirating it. ~

As an aside, the pricing makes me wonder if it's not based purely on the fact that Microsoft gives deep discounts to OEMs and volume licensees. Do they jack up retail just so that they can justify a minor increase in the price for their real customers? Anyone have any stats on what percentage of their OS sales are retails vs OEM / Volume License? (waits for LetMeGoogleThatForYou)

Actually it was a perfectly legitimate technique that worked great for a long time. Spammers aren't interested in wasting a ton of time to get the 1% of email addresses that developers have obfuscated. This is a numbers game. Spend a few minutes to write a snippet of code that collects emails on all websites that are in plaintext and works on 99% of pages. Spending hours or more coming up with something that will handle all the different jacked up versions of javascript just to get a few more addresses doesn't make much sense.

I agree and I think it will only continue to get worse. Consider the possibility of quantum computing - is that really something you're ever even going to have a hope of explaining to the majority of the populace? The same is true in other fields, genetics, biochemistry, etc. As fields of study grow more and more specialized it will become increasingly difficult to have an in-depth knowledge of more than a handful of fields.

I agree that this is both beneficial and detrimental. I think some people too quickly resign themselves to always perceiving everything as "magic". It also becomes more difficult to do the interdisciplinary work that was easier to do when the fields weren't as specialized.

Sadly this attitude disappeared after WWII. We stayed out of WWII for a long time. Pearl Harbor dragged us into it (yes, we helped arm some allies and such, but for the most part we were on the sidelines). Since then we seem to have taken to gallivanting around the globe doing whatever we want.

It would be nice to see a return to focusing on our own domestic problems rather than bothering other countries. Geographically we're pretty far removed from most problems. I realize that we're in a "global whatever" these days but the fact is that Canada and Mexico are the only countries we share a land border with. We don't need to be getting involved in border disputes and civil wars in countries that are literally on the other side of the planet. Maybe if we'd spent as much time and money on developing energy independence as we have on grasping at oil we wouldn't be "fighting terrorists" all over the planet.

Good job Oregon government. Way to help out your citizens by jacking up taxes and chasing away businesses rather than cutting back on government crap. We're in a recession. Citizens have no money because they have no jobs. That means the state government gets less money. That means government should also get to spend less money, but in fact it usually means they just invent new taxes.

I have no idea why this is but it's gotten to the point where neither party really even bothers with a district if the incumbent is running.

Personally, I've voted for someone new just because I hated the incumbent so much and I wanted them to realize that if you suck you will be voted out. Sadly, I have as yet to have seen someone other than the incumbent win in any of my local elections.
