Saying that this positive review was "bought" is purely delusional.
If it's delusional, where's the Vista review or the review of Bioshock or even the new Civ? which is far more topical to/. (ubiquitous enough to be mentioned in the Spore review!)
This "review" is very unusual and suspect at the least. It's very positive (without talking about actual gameplay) while being critical of interface and mechanisms from other games most readers are familiar with. All in all a template review. Delusional is a strong word and you should do your research before throwing it about.
probably, the world owes a debt of gratitude to that place
This does not mean people should toss money, time, or effort into saving any place. Everything falls apart, this should die a quicker death and save us the wasted breath. What constitutes "important" and "worth saving" is a matter of nostalgia and self-aggrandizing for those who engage in it. While it's historically interesting, document the dimensions, photograph the space, demolish it. If it's that important, it will take up less valuable real-estate and fund-raising time in a VR sim.
This framework and language offers nothing new nor a compelling reason to use them. So your comparison is bad and your point is an attempt to look clever while failing to understand the wasted time and effort. I worked for years as a sysadmin, in a company with much more (experience and talent than these guys) while attempting to do what this framework is still trying to do. It takes about 1/10th the time and effort to create a BETTER flash app to anything that can be developed with these heavy JS frameworks.

Why spend the time if you don't need to?
Primarily, bloat is a byproduct of misunderstanding and misuse. Many applications and so-called "nifty things" seem unnecessarily difficult or altogether unfeasible until an organization or individual with complete understanding, comes along and demonstrates that most people (and by extension most programmers) are simply bad.
We stopped caring about how tightly we can tune our applications when we got more leeway with hardware, and rightly so.
Good for you and your ilk. If you keep a lookout for opportunities to learn and put in some time, you'll find there's more money in doing things right than often.
I live in Orange County southern California. I expect that waters will rise enough in the next 25 years to flood inland in a number of areas. While I'm sad that property and maybe even life will be lost, it's far from apocalyptic and not going to be so sudden as to result in a tragedy for any but those who are statistically stupid (see Katrina).
Diablo III will be hacked, in the same way that every Blizzard game has been hacked
I'm not sure if you're trolling or just ignorant. I think you meant to say that every game is hacked to whatever extent it can be. That's not the same thing as Blizzard hacks have often been elaborations on spoofs (D2/SC Mapping, Duping, Bnet spoofing, etc) and it's unlikely that this will continue into D3.//pedantic
You want Spore for free, regardless of the time and money it took to produce it, simply because it uses a security program that has gotten negative press lately?
I don't want Spore for free, but I do want Spore. I will forego paying for it (which is easier for me) in philosophical protest of a third party program that is harmful to my machine. I don't even let Steam (PunkBuster) run anymore because of its behavior after closing Steam. Anything that continues to run outside of its purpose is probably leaky, is practially the same as any other malware or worm, and is not going to be allowed on my machine.
Most of your fiancee's friends are going to be non-geeks and they all like to see the same thing. The traditional geek band is a diamond band. Even if you think you can do better, you really can't...unless you're marrying a guy.//Welcome to the 21st century California).
While a relatively amount (4 drinks) of alcohol is detrimental to my ability to play an FPS, my ability to play increases exponentially with additional alcohol up util the point I have trouble staying concious. I am not stressed, my small movement precision increases, and I am focused on only the game. This state is very difficult for me to achieve, due to the progressive inability to control my environment while under these conditions and is obviously a very unhealthy way to spend an evening. That being said, the results are some pretty amazing videos I've recorded of my drunken sessions. I assume other people have learned to perfect altered state gaming.
We will have better technology and understanding in 25 years. As long as there is motivation to access the data, someone will. It's not that I don't have access to the technology to read a punchcard, I just don't have the inclination to dig up the specs and understand them.
Constitution say, US Citizens have rights. Foreign POWs, foreign invaders, and foreign asshats on foreign soil bringing foreign bombs to soldiers deployed in foreign countries don't.
As a matter of fact, The Constitution [of the United States] explicitly states the rights of all men [interpreted to include women] in first 10 amendments, known as The Bill of Rights. Might want to glance over it again.
The technology is not just mapreduce, it's how you manage multiple resources to leverage what is essentially brute force. Now, try to keep up, someone can buy the shell of a company after another buys the heart:
I'm a little dyslexic. I immediately see the wheelbarrow as a MySQL icon (which is almost universally a MySQL article) and read _M_apReduce into SQL = MYSQL in the title. This is proof I'm a reactionary blowhard who often fails to comprehend the summary, much less read the article.
There is no link because my wrongometer is not working, it has melted through its resin casing.
Google's mapreduce framework has a native resource manager that's aware of what resources are available, aware of failures, and is prepared to reschedule failed processes and where (and when?) to direct finished tasks. Basically it's a job que for distributed processing using a private network. MapReduce is just one tool. You aren't going to get much out of it after you max out your local machine's processing until you start work on the rest of it. What's really scary is that MySQL announces that they finally discovered the ancient algorithm of multithreaded recursive aggregation, "Hey look, in some cases MySQL wont waste processing power!"//i'm a mysql fanboy, but this is really an embarassing announcement
Only C++ can allow you to create applications as powerful as MapReduce which allows them to create fast searches.
Except that MapReduce is not an application, that it was originally codified in LISP, and that Google started using the technology because they bought AltaVista, where it was originally used for searching.
Except it isn't a stereotype...it's a statistical certainty. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that English-language tools exist too? See how stereotype doesn't apply? Probably not.
I wholeheartedly agree with every point but #4. Either the plane crashed or they had to stash some people somewhere. Nobody is gonna waste the time to kill them on the ground and burn the bodies. Explain where they went.
I remember watching the newscasters talking to a fire sergeant who said that #7 was going down at a specific time and no it wasn't being demo'd, and he wouldn't comment on why he knew when it was going down to the minute. Due to *hopefully* incompetence by NBC or whoever, that broadcast was "lost" or destroyed so it's really ironic how my opinions rely on first person experiences on this topic.
I would love to meet the idiots who impressed you enough to develop your world view.
Some people call it "time". I appreciate your viewpoint, based on optimism and unicorns. Nowhere have I stated Obama is accomplished or "good" but since you're just gonna troll and you're on my lawn, save your breath.
Apathy. I was intentionally being specific when I said "within America". I believe he recognizes that he does not know what's best. This situation rarely leads to making dramatic inroads. He's got enough problems when he hits the ground.
Try watching the video then try again....on with my opinion I do state that I think Obama is the lesser of 2 evils. In America, politics equates to corruption. Obama is a SENATOR. No matter who is vying for the presidency or who arrives, they are all beholden to the same monetary and political interests. Based on what I have seen, read, and heard, I have my own faith. I believe that Obama is not a techno-retard and that's more than I can say for McCain. A liberal socialist over a conservative elitist is TERRIBAD for the economy, I concede. I don't think that's bad for the world. Finally! bankrupt the US and break it up. I can't believe how good it makes me feel, just to imagine that day might come.
With so many obscure laws out there, you never know WHAT information on your hard disk might incriminate you in some way.
This is one of the tragedies of our legal system. The necessity of lawyers to interpret law. Regardless, this does not speak to the social benefit of this particular case. I would agree that an unrelated person who chooses not to give up the key to encrypted pertinent information in another capital case has the right to claim protection under the 5th amendment. However I don't believe it should be assumed (even though it's trivial to claim).//I know the police are my defacto enemy. No arguments there.
McCain's has the foresight and intents (and motivations like "faith") of GWB. Not that Obama is a saviour, but let's try to minimize the severe damage the internet will suffer under either candidate (in America).

God forbid the earth revert to a state it existed in before the last ice age. About as scary as, not being scary at all.
