  1. Re:They've taken a leaf out of the UK's book on No Hand-Held Devices In Ontario Cars · · Score: 1

It not that I don't agree that stupid people driving should be fined to a point where they can not drive anymore, and have to use public transportation.

But... none of these common sense laws with crazy penalties in Ontario are backed up with proper numbers, it is mostly media that brainwashes people into thinking this is a huge problem, or cult of witches that regularly oversteps their boundaries to torture people (MADD).

If you somehow miraculously are be able to obtain stats on how many people in Ontario or Canada die from:
    1. Drunk driving
    2. Driving while on the phone
    3. And Others - being people not paying attention, cutting people off, driving too fast, just being plain old assholes

You will see that #3 is something like 98% of all accidents where people die... However they are cracking down on #1 and #2 like there is no tomorrow, and the rest of worst drivers in Ontario keep on going at it. Police here does nothing generally speaking if you get into an accident unless you are hurt, or they need to get traffic cleared up.

Traffic policing in Ontario is so bad that they will not lift their finger unless they can get you a hefty fine, and this is where all of this turns into a cash cow for them...

My point is that there are worse things to be concerned about that these media sexy issues...

  2. Good idea, but how? on Google Buys reCAPTCHA For Better Book Scanning · · Score: 1, Interesting

ReCAPTCHA is a free service that usually integrates into forums, bLogs, and other such anonymous comment-posting services to help eliminate bot spamming. I think they will not use it on Google search pages, but exploit ReCAPTCHA users of all of those sites that do use it already. Sounds to me like a really good idea...

I'm interested though how they are going to know what a correct entry by a user would be for a scanned word in order to validate it if they only have a scan...

  3. Not quite easy as it sounds... on Casual Games Quickly Transforming the MMO Market · · Score: 1

This totally makes sense. See unexploited market, then focus on exploiting it.... I don't thinks so....

Ten years ago only "geeks" like myself used to have a PC and know how to use it and play MUDs online. Since then the market has changed - more and more people have at least one computer in their house and Internet. Where games used to be for a few dedicated hardcore games before, they have since changed to cater to all (or at least try to cater to all).

I've also been a huge WoW fan in the past and seen it grow from game catering to hardcore gamers to catering 13 year olds. Don't get me wrong, there is still content to hold a hook in for some of the hard core gamers, but with every patch and expansion pack it's less and less. As more and more games become so generic to try and hook larger demographic, new games will start to come out that will focus and specialize on hardcore gamers, casual gamers, kids... etc. Games with broad appeal will die, as a game that does not cater to and individual audience will not hold anyone's interest. Sometimes by trying to satisfy everyone, you don't satisfy anyone... MMOs market is still in it's infant stage...

Games, like movies are made for niche market - specific audience, and Blizzard is just greedy. How many people would watch a movie that contains all of following: porn, sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, drama, thriller, action, gore.... I'd rather watch one good comedy, or one good action movie than any movie containing all aspects of the genres.

Blizzard will fail if they don't start making individual audiences happy with their games. In ten years or less WoW will turn into a MMO Whack o Weasel.

Unfortunately, there is always more money to be made by companies trolling for patents than coming to a realization how badly designed system is and taking up a fight to have it revised.

It's not like Microsoft is not a patent troll themselves. They made more money over monopolies they hold thanks to the current patent system than they will ever lose by being sued by other companies.

It would take truly revolutionary government leadership to change something like patent system in US. I'd honestly rather see copyright and patent system changed than healthcare... but that's just me.

So far US, UK, Russia, France, China, and maybe Israel all have nuclear weapons capability.

There is no reason to invade North Korea just because they are trying to develop nuclear weapons.

There was no reason to invade Iraq either even if there was suspicion that they "might" have nukes.

What gives the right to countries that have nuclear arsenal to enforce their dominance over other countries that don't and prevent them from development?

North Korea has not committed any act of war, and neither did Iraq at the time, let them be - who are we to assume supremacy over other nations and act on suspicions (like we did with Iraq)?

If US invades NC on it's own without FULL support from international community, then we are not better than Nazi and I will from one be ashamed to be American.

Bell as singlehandedly brought their competition to same level of crappy service that they offer. I as consumer have no alternates. There is nothing I can do other than to write to all politicians in my areas, as well as inquire with all Internet providers as to what they are doing to keep me as a customer satisfied and fight Bell.

So far, politicians seem ignorant of the issues and web services all throughout GTA are promising to fight Bell.

All I hear is discussion about how much this car lacks and how much better all other cars are.

Is anyone going to look at the price and say "Wow finally I could afford this car!" Or are we all spoiled to a point where price does not matter? I think that price is the greatest achivement of this car company.

Imagine getting a loan for the cheapest new car that currently exists and paying it off for next 3-5 years. This car is cheaper than almost any motorcycle you could possibly buy. I could buy it with my petty cash and use it for every day commute to work and I bet insurance for this car would be next to nothing as it's only worth $2.5K to have whole car replaced.

Other car companies should be very afraid. One thing we can expect to come in next few years thanks to this car (if it ever reaches North America due to politic involved selling such a cheap car) - cheap, fuel efficient cars for everyone!

If this car was introduces to North America there would be huge implications on every aspect of our society starting from public transit (not being cost effective way of travel anymore) to lack of roads (due to number of these cars being on the roads), to people traveling greater distances to work (low cost suburban living and low cost of transportation), to mayor North American automakers and massive layoffs to come, including sky rocketing gas prices (increasing MPG but increasing numbers of cars on road - high gasoline demand)... etc.

I somehow doubt that this car will ever get close to North American shores. Or if it does it's starting cost will be $10K which does not make it worth anymore.

Eventually the manager had to refund the money and play nice with the customer. He seemed pretty scared and annoyed when he initially received the letter. Normally if we were speaking about Christianity or Judaism, you might be correct to say not to confuse religion with culture and/or practice - however when you are speaking of Islam, it is a whole different story. Islam demands believers to be completely submissive to an Islamic, theocratic form of government in which the State acknowledges the legal supremacy of God and the teachings of Muhammad.

The Quran is militantly anti-Judeo-Christian. It refers to non-Muslims as unbelievers, hypocrites and infidels directing Muslims to "make war" against them so they might be sent to their "homes in hell." (Surah 9:73)

You will not find that in any other mainstream religion.
