We know that Microsoft has paid shills. The game is to figure out who they are. The hard part is that so many naive people are rabid Microsoft fans, refusing to believe that their heroes can do anything wrong, or younger engineers who have been in the Windows monoculture since birth and so lack relevant breadth of experience.
That's a game store. "App" store means the mini things you get on phones and tablets, highly simplified, limited input choices, limited requirements for cpu or 3D graphics, etc. The most complicated "app" is something that would run on a basic $200 PC, whereas the topic was about how to squeeze just a bit more performance.
Nothing wrong with being weird. Remember that if you vote that also makes you weird; if you read then you're weird; if you're on slashdot then you're so weird that tofurkey seems normal.
Anyone with half a brain is skipping the commercials, using that time to get some food/drink, use the toilet, yell at the kids, channel surfing, or *anything* other than staring at the commercials.
But developers can not write once and use anywhere. Even if they don't want portability outside the Microsoft family, the developer may want to take advantage of the many differences between Xbox and Windows (who am I kidding, console games are designed to be dumbed down).
Last decade I had a friend who worked in the games industry. The Xbox wasn't out yet but he said he was hoping that it would be very popular. The reasoning was that the other consoles all had onerous licensing requirements, and they had to fork over a chunk of the price to the console maker, and the hope was that Microsoft wasn't going to do this. Alas, over time it seems Microsoft is even more mesed up than Sony or Nintendo.
They don't even show movies or television at that speed. If someone can distinguish between 144 and 165Hz I'd be wondering if they were also one of those who claim to hear the audio difference when using gold plated connectors.
There will not be a Windows 11. Microsoft has said that Windows 10 is the last version ever. What this means in practice is that they will just keep modifying it over time, adding new features, removing older features that they've grown tired of supporting, changing the UI every time they want, etc. And customers must follow along, because no one is allowed to defer these updates forever. Even Windows 10 Enterprise edition is not immune, since at some point the security patches will stop coming unless you have also installed the "feature" updates. There is no more picking and choosing of updates. How this will work over time is a bit of an unknown, but I suspect users will start referring to the year to describe the version of Windows 10 (as in "remember when Windows 2016 didn't require the blood test?", or possibly "anyone remember when Windows was a thing?)).
Xbox is a different platform. Who cares if they work the same. Xbox is a console, in a world where making games exlusive to your platform is a standard practice. So Microsoft creates yet another proprietary API which means it is utterly useless if you're not on PC or Xbox, and irrelevant to those creating platform exclusive games, and not all that important for those few game companies who want to make things portable.
The goals of Microsoft do not overlap with the goals of their customers.
Why should they monitor each and every one of them. Come to think of it, why should they monitor even ONE of them? Does this mean you think it's ok if McDonald's monitors every one who eats there to ensure proper satisfaction? It's none of their damned business.
Privacy is vital and a basic right. Don't be so quick to sell yourself for a half assed OS. If you can't see what's wrong with telemetry then you're amazingly naive. This is not some corporation that has proven itself to be responsible and trustworthy over time, they're very much the opposite. They've proven to be hostile to the consumer and openly flaunting of national laws and legal judgements. This is not paranoia, this is about protecting basic rights.
It's pointless even if gaming. The frame rates are high enough that no one can see anything faster than 60fps anyway (and I seriously doubt that any but the most pedantic can see faster than 30fps). They only want the big numbers so that they can brag.
The mail program was from 2012. That means it's ancient, decrepit, designed in a less enlightened time by people who may be over 30 now. They need a *modern* mail program! And then upgrade that clunker every year.
It's one of those things designed to suck up all of the investors money while not actually getting any work done. Many startups, especially those run by young people, act as if money is free (in their life long experience they may as well be right), whereas companies that need to make a quarterly profit have to scrimp and save (relying on used foosball tables).
Babbage is widely acknowledged, you just have some sort of blinders on if you missed that.
Ada Lovelace is known for two things. Being the daughter of Lord Byron, and popularizing the work of Charles Babbage (making his work more readable to English speakers). She'd not be remembered if it weren't for Babbage, and Babbage would not be remembered if it were not for Lovelace. Don't know why you feel the need to pick sides between the two.
Windows 7 is still supported. It's just not "mainstream" support, and what that means is that it won't necessarily get major features and will only get security or other important upgrades (important to the customer that is), and that's what most customers want. I've got 8.1, It was an improvement over Windows 7 if you can get past the metro and the app store (and I like the flat look myself, I though W7 was too glossy and flashy).
Windows 10 could have been just an upgrade; after all they did apologize for Windows 8, fired the Windows VP, and got a new CEO. But the apparently weren't sincere about the apology as W10 is even worse to the users. All upgrades are mandatory, even the unimportant ones, even in Pro edition; spyware telemetry; advertising barrage to everyone; and continued removal of user's control over their own computer. And they kept most of the bad stuff from Windows 8 that everyone bitched about - the store, the idiotic metro apps, gestures, etc.
The new version is NOT better. It has changed but change is not always better and Microsoft has proven that.
And I don't care if Microsoft needs money. Everyone needs money but I can't give some to everyone. Microsoft will have to wait in line. Now if they had a useful product then maybe I would consider bumping them ahead in line.
Well ya, it's a SUBSCRIPTION service. Do you think Microsoft will let you sneak past with a pay-once-use-forever program? That is such an obsolete concept. Next you'll be saying you want to store your files locally instead of in the cloud...

We're talking about Windows 10. Why derail the conversation by mentioning cool shit?
I'm not a PvP or shooter player. But I play a lot of games.

No one is ever going to get a decent game of of a app store. You're going to get simple tablet/phone like games that don't need performance.

This one trillian dollar revenue is why Microsoft is literally begging for people to upgrade.
It's pretty much a stretch to call CNN a news outlet anymore. It's all talking heads.

Um, both maybe? Dunno anyone who uses them so I couldn't say.

He was always interested in stories with that bit of conspiracy to them, so it's no surprise.
CMDA is designed to work with a worse signal to noise ratio than other radio encodings, so it can use less power.

I'm a developer. Things work great on Linux and OSX for developers. Better than that wannabe web and IT oriented Windows.
