Interstate Commerce is such a huge loophole. It's used to pretty much neuter the powers of the state governments as Congress sees fit. Pity the Supreme Court didn't nip that in the bud back in the day; nowadays the Supremes would probably be loath to do it because it would cause chaos.
I haven't known anybody to blame the utility crews; most of them are very thankful to have them out there, especially at night in bad weather.
People do tend to blame the utility/companies/, especially when the companies quit trimming back trees which then fell onto power lines and knocked them down.
I'm ambivalent about that; it is partly the utility's fault, but part of it is also the damnfool landowners who plant big trees too near power lines, and don't bother to hire someone to trim their trees either. You'd have this problem to an extent with buried lines, since tree roots can grow out unseen and gradually break the line, much as they do with sidewalks.
I've also got a Unicomp Model M plugged into my work Macbook. Works great. I just have to mentally re-map some things, like the Windows key is that funny cloverleaf thing, and IIRC the menu key isn't used, and F12 doesn't eject CDs in Boot Camp; for that I use the laptop keyboard.
It's mainly the tactile feedback. When I hit a Model M's key, I damn well know that I did and thus I can type faster and with somewhat fewer errors. Also the things are well-nigh indestructible. The only way I've found to damage one is to catch one of the springs with the end of a washcloth, which gets them bent out of shape and makes the key numb.
Cherry keyswitches are supposed to be almost as good as the M's buckling springs WRT tactile feedback, and are somewhat quieter. Maybe you'd like to look for a kb with those. Alps keyswitches are also quite nice.
Kids still bring them, and sometimes (when they're caught & the phone confiscated) the parents will call the school and bitch at the principal for taking away the phone.
Believe me, my wife's a public schoolteacher and this happens more frequently than you'd think.
Plus 640x480 at 16 colors is actually part of the original VGA specification from the late 1980s. A card would have to be badly designed indeed (or terribly old) to not support that.
It didn't help that Britannic struck a mine in 1916. Olympic served for 24 years, until 1935; she appears to have been withdrawn because the owners wanted to spend money on newer ships.
Bookendz sells docks for Apple laptops. They may have released models for the new aluminum ones. I use one for my mid-2007 Macbook and it's not bad. It basically plugs into all your pre-existing ports and extends them out to ports on the dock. There's also a few extra powered USB ports.
Actually, it's pretty good considering the limitations it has to work with -- Apple doesn't design their laptops with docking stations in mind (unlike Dell Latitudes), so Bookendz says you have to power off your Macbook before docking & undocking.
That said, sometimes the ports apparently don't match up perfectly and I have to shut down and re-seat the dock to get the Ethernet jack to work.
That money the government takes out for Social Security, etc., isn't for you and never has been. It's for all the people who need the money/now/. When you're old and retired, the people who are working then will have money taken out to pay for/your/ needs, assuming SS, etc. are still around by that point.
My eyes look in slightly different directions, so I've never had depth perception. Can't catch a ball, can't do melee combat effectively. I'm told I have a disadvantage only from about six feet away on in, but that's probably far enough out that a 3D TV would be useless at best, and probably an annoyance from seeing double.
I pay for a pipe. My ISP should take no interest in the source or destination or type of service connections in this pipe. Anything else is just allowing the system to be used abusively.
Counter-example: botnetted computers spewing spam. Your ISP should damn well care about that.
The article said they had to update the command & control data for the botnets. The 'nets won't let just any computer control them, and this Russian server probably wasn't on the master list, so they needed to get back online with their old DNS hostname first.

The "B" in B-tree stands for "balanced", fyi.

Amen to that!
Is that you?
Wow. How do you get an old BX-chipset motherboard to support 1.4 GHz? I had a BH6 back in '99.
Point of order: some new cars have 42VDC electrical systems.

I wonder if the kid's parents made him apologize. I would hope they would if he didn't do it voluntarily.

Well played, sir, well played.
My university has seen so many students (and even staff!) with variants of this. I'll volunteer for the firing squad.
We must have a massive cyber buildup to prevent the godless commies from taking over our country and polluting our precious bodily fluids.
Said people won't be annoyed by the stereo sound being slightly out of phase.

Now I'm living in dread of when my sprog are old enough to reach my Model M.
I'd settle for a Grand Slam-sized bomb casing filled with a fuel-air explosive or cluster bomblets.
Nice use of Godwin, there. ;-)

they should have terminated their contract with these assholes immediately instead of letting them back up.
