  1. Re:Suggestions on Best Mouse For Programming? · · Score: 1

Logitech MX518 is probably one of the best. I also picked up the Logitech MX 610 Laser Cordless Mouse... and while it has a few more buttons - the placement of them is poor. The middle-mouse button is next to impossible to use due to the left/right scroll feature of the middle scrollwheel: you almost always scroll left/or right instead of being able to depress the scroll wheel. As well the couple of extra buttons it has are hard to press. The MX 610 also is missing one of the middle body buttons that the 518 has.

So $60 down the drain, and I just went back to the MX518, and started using AutoHotKey to make it even more useful.

My current config has CTRL & SHIFT on the thumb buttons, the MiddleButton(ScrollWheel) is set to MiddleMouseButton, and AutoHotkey interprets it to do what I want, depending on the program: usually Delete. Also the way Logitech sends keystrokes by having it set as "MiddleMouseButton" I can also use the CTRL or SHIFT keys (on the mouse) for modifiers sent to AHK.

The buttons on the MX518 are also very easy to press, similiar to a good keyboard.

The 610 was very disappointing, I'm not sure how it made it out of R&D.

They have clearly stated they are separate games. Not "expansions". $20-$30 is the generally accepted cost for expansions. It's not that far of a stretch to believe each release will be a standard priced game - as they are not expansions and will not require any of the other releases to play.

Kinda crazy no? Not like the "expansions" will provide new features... all the Races need to be complete in each Game/Campaign or else you wouldn't be able to play against the AI's differing race.

So it will basically be 50-60 bucks for some more maps. Lovely.

I dont think there is a point. A game ought to be designed with limits from its inception - thus you would get a true diminishing returns curve, and a limited number that ever reach "max_level". Instead Blizzard repeatedly releases expansions adding another linear-curved level cap. They will continue to do so, so long as it is profitable (and no I am not saying they are all about the money).
It just doesn't have a point, you know the level cap will be raised again and again (and again). It has little effect beyond giving more grind for your buck (lengthening the game) and diminishing what "value" the previous level had.

OEM is a great way to get Windows Software, especially if you are a techy - and don't need MS Support. Compared to the crap you get with most DELLS, HP/Compaq et al - which is at best a next to useless Restore Disk and at worst a sectioned off HD partition with what a restore disk would've had.
If you happen to change your hardware too much, its digital signature wont match the OEMBIOS.sys - and the restore disk will fail, as it no longer believes you bought your computer from said manufactuer... i.e. the Bulk-License IDKEY is no longer valid.
At least with OEM, just like a Retail Version you get an install key ID that isn't tied to any particular piece of hardware.

Microsoft's "updates" are free to anyone that has purchased the product within it's lifespan.

In many articles here on slashdot over the years, it has been mentioned time and again that "free software" is not equated as having value compared to commercial software. And the value associated with commercial software increases it's adoption (likewise piracy).

If microsoft stand-alone purchase price was too low, or lower than XP was many years ago. It would decrease its viewed value -- as well as decrease the discount value that OEM's receive. I believe Microsoft has little option but charging at least $200 and more likely the $300 price range for the top tier of their latest OS.
