Not all of us browse at home using a residential connection. I have a FiOS Business Connection at my home. I even advertise as a Wireless ISP on my main page so I could be serving thousands of different people at any given moment when in reality it's mostly just me and my wife playing DDO and a couple of www/dns/mail servers running.

This sounds very much like my own experiences with Linux.I had a friend/co-worker help me setup a Debian system many years ago but, I never quite "got" Debian and it was very frustrating for me. I continued to run the Debian system for several years and I even tried out Corel Linux with similar results but, after reading about Mandrake(the name back then) I figured it couldn't be any worse so I gave that a try and WOW...all my hardware magically started working and it wasn't too hard for me to setup the system and use it. Now several years later I use Debian on my servers and I'm learning to use the KDE that comes with Debian but, I mostly just the shell/Xterm/CLI on those systems. This is great timing too because my wife just mentioned earlier tonight that she'd like to try out a Linux system on an old laptop we have here and I have a pretty good idea which Distro we are going to try first:)
You can have your connection switched over to ethernet. I had my FiOS install done on ethernet instead of the coax and the first thing I did when the installers left was plug the ethernet into my Debian bridge/firewall and I run their Actiontec off a gigabit switch along with my other PC's. Last time I had to call tech support they were unable to connect to the Actiontec and when I explained the setup and that I needed to open a port for them the Tech was like " that's awesome. Maybe you should work for us!" instead of bitching about how I blocked their access so they may not "support" the setup but, they didn't ask me to switch it back either. Now there are 1 or 2 ports you will need to open up for the Actiontec especially if you also have TV service but, it's quite simple to open a port in IPTables. Shoot me an email if you need some help setting this up!
I'm not sure about how the banks would handle it as I've never tried it.
My idea for PayPal was to just "purchase" something from yourself like from a second PayPal acct. and use the Visa debit card to pay for nothing really and the funds would get transferred to your real PayPal acct. where they can be withdrawn or transferred to the account attached to your PayPal acct.
I've no idea what PayPal would charge to handle the transaction though:(
Just some ideas I got while reading the other posts.

Are you going to park that flying car in mud or on a "paved" surface of some sort? If nothing else perhaps this new "roadway surface" could be used in some large parking areas that are farther away from the stores so they get less vehicles parked on them and are thus exposed to the light a good bit more. These parking areas would probably work better for the colder climates because people would not be driving at the higher speeds in a parking area.
I have ABP disabled for Slashdot.org and I have the option to disable ads too but, I haven't checked the box and I don't see any ads.I always figured I screwed up some setting in ABP or Firefox but, now I see I'm not the only one experiencing this. Very strange that they would disable the ads just because we installed ABP.
I would think he was prosecuted and sentenced for actually using the information, that he acquired legally, to access the peoples accounts on other systems(online banking and such).
What is the threshold for "viability"? What applications or features are currently missing from Windows alternatives that are keeping people stuck on Windows?
Easy. One Word....GAMES....period. People will never switch to an OS that they cannot play games on.
It can detect the amount in the sample it tests! that does not mean it can see how much is actually in a persons system nor how that affects that person.
Nope...just slashdotted. It's responding again now.
They should probably release a torrent version to cut down on the server loads.
Try that later tonight when everyone gets home from work :)
When you start at the bottom there is no place to go but up :)
Welcome to Earth. Enjoy your stay!

Thanks AC !
Kaspersky isn't bad, but no free version we'd want to install on customer systems
Do they get pissy when ya charge them for installing free software?
Welcome to Slashdot!
Good post...wish I still had some mod points left
Computers don't crash into you at 60mph and kill everyone in the vehicle/room
Some links would be useful. This is the internet after all :)

That's because most Americans can barely afford their homes let alone send a kid to a college to get the qualifications needed for the 6 figure jobs.

Here in SouthEast PA I get FiOS at 20/5 speed and they do have faster speeds available but, I haven't tried those, yet.

I'd like to express my condolences to you and your family and especially to your two nephews!
I hope that someday tragedies like this can be prevented.
My 1973 Ford Mustang with a 302ci V8 would beg to differ with your opinion of cars from the 70's!
