    Amen. I agree wholeheartedly.

    This use-the-right-fucking-tool-for-the-job-already attitude is exactly the way people should look at it. It's how I solve my problems. It's how I keep the users and the customers happy. It's what gives my network stability.

    It's nice that people advocate some operating systems, but real admins already know what they are going to use. The right tool for the damn job.

    See subject line. AFAICR, x86 "SMP" under NetBSD was only spinup, it could 'see' more cpu's, and spin them up, but it never did anything with the extra cpus. Do they finally have stuff like threading and running processes on more cpus in order? I don't own SMP boxes, but there's a couple of places where I worked that would drool over a stable SMP NetBSD box if that was possible :)

    Hmm... Time to scour off the netbsd-current@ mailinglists again for answers...

    Not only tell Microsoft that. Sony hates modders too. Nintendo hates modders as well.

    Instead of just blaming Microsoft (the easy way), why not blame the other console corps as well? Blaming MS might be easy, but in console-country they aren't the only ones trying to keep hackers away from their so-called IP.

    *note: I hate Microsoft like the next guy. I have a MS free zone at home.

    PS: the M$ thing is old, give it a rest. I'm serious. Stop that. You will be taken more seriously if you refer to things by their real names/abbreviations. The Co$ is of course the exception of the rule. :)

    (yeah I should finish up on that UFie wars thing. Thing is I've stopped for such a long time writing it, I can't seem to be inspired to pen down something disorganized and cool and finish the story... *sigh* Also, I have been away from userfriendly for so long, I would definately need some time to adjust to the crazy people that comment on the stories. Oh. to UFies that happen onto this: No I haven't forgotten you. I'll probably be moseying along your way soon. Watch out... I'll be lurking...)

    Just scower off freshmeat or sourceforge and pick what you like. Most likely it will compile and work fine. When you don't want to hassle, try Fink.

    They work. They might be a bit cumbersome and crude, but if you have worn glasses and/or contacts all your life, you're probably used to it already.

    The other fact is that I (nor anyone else) knows what long-term effects these kind of treatments have.

    I only have one pair of eyes. Glasses and contacts alleviate my sight problems adequately without doing something intrusive or irreversible. I'll stick with my glasses and contacts, thank you.

    uhh.. 2.9.10? I've seen the 2.3.x run up to 2.3.[somewhere in the hundreds]

    After that, one could use 2.10.x after 2.9.x

    It's just a number, like Linus said. I don't care much too. As long as the kernel works.

    The right click becomes a slightly lengtier left click and hold operation, which can be done one handed.

    Alternatively, you don't even NEED a mouse to operate OS X, since everything can be accessed through key combinations.

    Buy a three button USB mouse, and plug that in your Mac. I have this Logitech Mouseman+ (the one with a wheel) and all buttons function and the wheel works too. No problems at all.

    Stop spreading FUD already :)

    Oh, I'll bet Microsoft could rig an system without the graphics, network, most driver subsystems and the GUI stuff to skimp on overhead and winge their way to a higher number of parallel threads in less time.

    Or they could just blatantly pay some other company that does "independant testing" *cough*mindcraft*cough to lie about it :)
