WHAT?!?! Microsoft software has BUGS that could COMPROMISE SECURITY? *gasp* oh no!??!
</sarcasm>
Like that's new.. They should read NTBugTraq every once in a while then. Heck, even open source software has bugs. Code I write has bugs. Heck, that's a fact of life. And yes, sometimes they can compromise security.
Their big mistake is not opening the code. Maybe some malicious underground cracker already figured out how to exploit this. You don't know. It's Security Through Obscurity, and will NEVER work.
Great going Microsoft. Keep on going like that. I'll be waiting for the outcome.
> This explains why innocuous commands (like touch and finger) have easy-to-remember and provocative names, while the more dangerous ones (like ld and vi) are "secure" through their "obscure" names
And pray tell... how exactly is vi(1) dangerous? I'd call emacs a bigger violation though, but hey, I'm biased. Heck, every editor on a UNIX system should have a "secure" name then. That logic doesn't really fly.
Runs off, before it turns in yet another editor flamefest (which is not what I am intending).
Microsoft code and national security? Hmm... Interesting:) Also another good question is: whose national security, als lots of foreign governments use Microsoft software.
They could... You'd get a free console, but you'd have to shell out on the games or licenses to use games (or whatever hare-brained scheme they think of)
Or maybe they could like integrate one game into it which looks visually pleasing, but gets boring within three minutes of play. Out of sheer frustration, people will buy games.
I hope such a thing will not happen. It's a good thing those consoles are a bit too expensive to just give away.
Eclectic music? Well, if Industrial and Metal counts... yes...
BTW, I have no linux boxen, only old crummy sparcstations (of which one is a dual head) running Solaris and some Free/NetBSD boxen... And of course my iMac running OSX.
The KDE3 Konq _did_ get a workover. Read the mailing list archives. KDE3, when the stable version comes out (probably when it's a.1 release, KDE hasn't been that good with.0 releases), is going to be really _really_ good.
I'm glad to hear it's looking this good:) Go KDE!
And as for anonymous coward still being switched off... I don't seem to mind much.
Well, especially for this occasion I had two big hunks of/dev/zero, freshly dumped with dd(1). Of course, these files are now gone. 180 MB of binary zeroes is kinda wasteful dontchathink? I recycled them now by putting them back in the bitbucket.
I had a very cool april fool webpage up. Too bad Malda and his cohorts never posted it. But I had fun too. Especially the process of getting mail from people that thought it was the real thing:-)
Hint: read the HTML source of that link. Things will be clearer. The CVS $Id$ is a bit of a giveaway as well:)
Their Caffeine candy sampler really helped me out on late-night coding on my latest project. Especially the penguin mints. I have lots of their t-shirts in my wardrobe. I bought mousepads and desktoppers from there. My office is plastered with posters. I am a true fan. Good to see initiatives like this on slashdot.
When it starts spouting "I am." at every query, start getting worried :)
See here. Who wouldn't want to be a Forward Observation Officer in the navy? :)
Oh, of course there's probably more. Just blame my english, I'm not a native speaker. So there :)

Just wait until you crash in a Pinto. ;)
Well, at least I hope it doesn't. A comment like this from a Microsoft bigwig doesn't sound encouraging... Mid-air GPF anyone? *ouch*
Worrying isn't it?
aaaaaaaggggghhh...
*gurgle*

Tattooed? Uhm... yes...
Pierced? Yup, that too...

Well you came close enough :)
on a side note: are you related to Jeff K?
Case in point: Japanese Engrish.
Uh, on FreeBSD it's master.passwd with all the passwd hashes :)
I caught Microsoft redhanded looking at my netbsd-xbox page :)
I couldn't keep this nugget from you guys. This made my day :)

(Yeah I know, offtopic. Like it matters today. NOT :)
(yeah I know, april fool... :) Keep it coming guys!)
Some nut ported NetBSD to the X-BOX I tell ya... It's been a weird day...
...secret powers... *grin*
I was looking for that setting... Great article!

(Oh, and a happy april fool to you all)
But somehow it reeks of April Fool stench... Gotta wait and see :)
