I wonder what the results of this survey in a more sexually enlightened country like Denmark or Sweden would show?
Actually, we (yes I'm swedish) aren't as sexually enlightened and liberated as everyone seems to think. The same kind of puritans exist here as everywhere else and they yell as loud as they can about things they don't really have a clue about.
FYI, The clubs I go to rarely play any songs from RIAA. If your club plays Madonna and Destiny Child all day, you are in the wrong place.
Not if you like Madonna and Destiny Child (not that I do, but there are people who do). Why is a particular kind of music bad if it sells much but really really great if you're the first person to have heard it...
If you like the music it doesn't matter if they sell X million copies and earns Y million dollars or if it is someone totally unknown person, good music is good music no mater how it is wrapped.
Yeah i agree, why spend several months and maybe even years on making a really sweet 3d engine, if everything it produces is black?
I can do _that_:), all games are looking really really dark for me (old crappy monitor) so i'm really pissed off when the ones that made the game didn't think it was necessary to include a gamma thingie, or did but even when it is on max it's still just some black squares moving around...
I got a pII-400 with 256MB and I still use Opera... why? Since it's the best browser there is. Fast, very stable, small and it doesn't open 500 windows for everything (I have better things to do then to alt-tab through tons of browser windows)
Hopefully the linux version will be as good (don't mind if it'll be better either:) ) then the windows version.
- loads fast, (appr. 5 seconds)
5 seconds isn't fast, it's damn slow if you ask me. Opera starts 4-5 times faster for me, and is >5 times stable and fast when running:)
- Sites load & render fast (i normally run ie 5.5 so I know what fast is)
Getting the page with telnet and then visualize it in your head is faster then ie... good choice for speed comparison...
I hope Opera for linux will be as good as it is for windows, only browser I use in windows. Then I can throw out netscape... mmmmm
I think gnut is kinda nice actually, except for one thing that makes it totaly useless...
It updates the "X items found."-line (don't remember the exact words) all the bloody time, even if there are no new... which means that if you're on a modem logged in on a remote computer... that line is send all the time, making your modem flooded...
They should fix that, but more importanly, list the matches as they occur... so you know when you have found what you searched for and not just 50 "FREE XXX TEENS! [what_you_searched_for].html"
and gnut refuses to compile on my computers so i can't fix it myself:(
2. No Java. Now Java ain't no friend of mine, but I really can't get along without it at this point.
There is java support for opera, it just isn't included. You can download it separately from their website. I never used it though so I can't say how good/bad it is.. (but hey it is java so can't expect too much?:) )
But I am praying for the day something that doesn't suck comes along.
Look no further!
Just use opera, fast small and very capable and it almost never crashes.
Albeit the unix version sucks horrible, but it is just beta there.... windows verson works like a charm though
Why? Because it's much more convenient for me to have a CD than it is for me to download mp3s and move them about. (The sound quality on CDs is also better.)
I don't think it's more convenient with CD... they are so short... At most 70 minutes and then you have to juggle them out and replace with another, where as with mp3's you just start a big mean playlist and listen to it for hours, or just chose another playlist when the current one is finished. Almost all my CD's are converted to mp3 and reside on my harddisk and i listen to them rather then going through the trouble of finding the cd and then moving it around...
And the sound quality is more or less how you encode it. Atleast that's what i've understood
Also, you have to custom compile your kernel, which isn't an appealing option.
I don't, I think it's a good thing. First thing i always do on a new machine is tweak the kernel to just include what is needed on that system, why should i waste memory, cpu (well not much but) and hd space for something that will never ever get used?
That to me is beauty of linux.. "if you don't want it, don't include it" not "if you don't want it, well though luck! Kiss those megabytes of hd/memory space goodbye, since we're including it anyway"
How is posting bogus files harmful to Napster's interests unless Napster's purpose is to violate copyrighted materials.
Napster users, generally I assume, would like to get the file they are downloading not something else. And nothing really stops that user from doing the same to all form of files, copyrighted or not. So, if (s)he gets to continue and more people are following his/her example then napster will be full off those songs and not what people came there for. To get other songs, copyrighted or not. And why stay on a place where you can't get what you want? So it harms Napster's userbase and without users there's no napster.
However, I don't think they will do anything about it. Since it's very hard to stop.

Embedding Ads In MP3s?

you need a complete header
of course you do, but these headers come in every frame of the mp3. And there are quite many frames in an mp3, i forgot just about how many but several thousands. And all these frames can have various compression etc... that's why you can stream and play parts of an mp3.
And, if you know which frames the ad is in, you just have to locate your scissor and carve it out:)
you have obviously never played DOOM in deathmatch.
It's lightyears better in deathmatch then all the quack games together, single play is a bit tedious too, but that's sine it's so much more to blast your friends in pieces then some semi dumb ai...
come on. of course there is some of them somewhere down deep in the m$ catakombs. They must have build alot of testing models to make sure it works as they want it to.
do you think that people that construct hardware just takes a bunch of cool looking chips, some wires and some other stuff they have lying around. Throw them together and starts selling them? No, of course not.
The Ultima Underworlds got several of my otherwise non-gaming friends, many of them girls, too, completely hooked and were responsible for my worst (or best, depending on the point of view.. after all high school is not that important, right?) game addiction ever.
yeah, remember when ultima underworld came out.. me and my friends played it for hours and hours straight... I'm still hoping someone will make a ultima wonderworld III though. With the development in hardware since I & II came out, they could do a really cool game. I just hope if it gets done they just don't go mad with the effects, but actually do a good rpg game, if not they better not do it at all.
linux is good for some things but *BSDs, Solaris, are vastly superior in most respects.
How come all the *BSDs people are always saying that [favourite_version]BSD is sooooooo much better then linux (or anything else for that matter), but they never produce any proof for it, they just say it.
but it has fixed itself, certainly not something you can claim about Windows.
;)
Hey, windows fixes itself.. it just needs a reboot. Problem is that it fixes itself too often, like always
And this is exactly what the article said (atleast the longer one). Although, somehow most of the old programs to encode mp3s didn't work on XP... ;)

*offtopic*
haha, cool... got to go fetch my c64 at my parents place after work and try it out
I don't, but if they used it for authentication, i would :) And btw, you don't have to change ethernet card to change MAC address.

really? I never use explorer, well one more reason not to then I guess
(what idiot will download "girl-sucks-horse.jpg.VBS"???)
:)
Same idiots that automatically download all files and use an OS where the extension is hidden by default?
