  1. Ironman! on HoloVizio 3D, Holodeck 1.0 to Some, Makes Its Debut · · Score: 1

Judging by the new film Iron man this tech has been round for longer than we think. It is hard to imagine that because of the film this tech has been developed. I am not saying that in the incarnation in the film that that is the current marker or the technology but that is where it is going. I want my armour!!!!

  5. Missing the point! on UK Academics Arrested For Researching al-Qaida · · Score: 1

If you are in Uni and you see someone printing off an Al-Qaida terrorism manual and you reported it, would you or would you not expect the police to investigate??? Of course you would. Even if his lecturers are saying "Yes we knew about it". You would expect the authorities to keep digging in case there were alterer motives. I live in Nottingham and am for one happy that the police did there job. Getting caught up in an explosion would I don't know.... Kind of ruin my day.

  6. Feedom of speech! on YouTube Refuses To Remove Terrorist Videos · · Score: 1

A lot of people here are talking about the freedom of speech and what censorship of this videos would mean. This freedom that America and the UK have we have had to fight for and even now you can't say exactly what you want for fear of upsetting the Political Correctness Police (but that is another rant). The point I am trying to make is that freedom of speech comes with a price. If that price is that some fanatic learns how to make explosives and kills a group of children on a school bus don't you think the cost was a little too high. I know what some of you are going to say... "But you can get that information off the Internet or in a collage library...". SO WHAT! we don't need to publish that information for all the idiots of the world and give them step by step instructions on.... I don't know... military tactics to enable them to efficiently storm through the corridors of a well known collage and pump round after round into fellow students. Or in another case create a bomb that can fit in the heel of a shoe. The stuff I have mentioned is all easy enough to find if you know where to look without having it placed in view of every fucked up Muslim (or any other) teen with growing pains.

I was under the impression that America won the war all on their own.... FYI the British DID crack the Enigma code. I am not as Naive so as to believe it was done without the work of other nationality's but it was Alan Turing that developed the method of finding the settings for the Enigma machine. Enabling the deciphering of the Enigma code. Hence the person most responsible was British.

  11. Re:The normal Microsoft Propaganda. on Windows 7 To Be Released Next Year? · · Score: 1

maybe this is all part of a big ploy that means that if you have vista, nothing will work on Windows 7. Hence you will need to go out and buy the new OS to make any MS products work. Maybe they planned it from the start? I for one am puking out my arsehole with the amount of shit that MS put out in recent years. Everybody in the IT industry knows that there are better operating systems out there, but the willingness of said people to suggest to the end users to use those operating systems seems sadly lacking. If we want to break the Microsoft monopoly on desktops then we need to do something about it. We need to turn round to our clients and say "We can offer you a complete solution to your business needs with a huge reduction in site costs with minimum training for staff". I have done this a few times now, and have had great results with small to medium size businesses.

  13. More money for the machine on Windows 7 To Be Released Next Year? · · Score: 1

Is it me or does everybody else see where this is going????

Software that will only run on vista and not XP that has been shipped with the new machines will not work on Windows 7. This will mean that you will need to purchase all new versions of your new software.

I have heard on the grape vine that the new name for Windows 7 is going to be Everest edition. The reason for this is that it is going to be a mountain of bloatware that it reaches epic proportions.

  14. 1st year Computer Science Module on Followup On Java As "Damaging" To Students · · Score: 1

When I did my degree in my first year we had a module in Micro Electronics Programming (Assembly), a module in OOP (Java), and a module in Operating Systems Management.

I was luck enough to learn C and C++ off my own back in collage before I went to Uni. I do believe that splitting up the three components (whilst good for people who haven't come from an IT background) did leave me slightly bored with the whole thing.

If they had used C++ for the whole first year I would have felt a lot happier. That said I also know people that wouldn't have passed their degree, but then again maybe they shouldn't have done anyway.
