    well there's the UN charter and appealing to the Security Council to take action, but more specifically there's the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security

    gcc doesn't run on plan 9. plan 9 is just wonderful for clusters. but as most HPC stuff is for gcc only, you either have to port every bit of gcc software you want to use or port gcc itself. both rather daunting tasks

    Well Bill Clinton did, but I wasn't thinking of that in particular. What I was referring to was the Democrats knowing about warrantless wiretapping by the Bush administration and doing absolutely nothing to stop it, even passing a bill giving it pseudo-legal legitimacy. They've had majorities in congress for how many years now? They certainly have the power to put a stop to illegal wiretapping. If they need a little extra congressional oompf they could have always organized their voters. The popular sentiment against warrantless wiretapping is certainly there. But instead they put their stamp of approval on it and collaborate with the Bush administration.

    why is it that economists always argue their point with a ridiculous made up fable instead of drawing sound conclusions from empirical observations?

    i'll give you a hint: economics is not a value-free science, therefore economic theories are a commodity like most everything else. of course the rich have the most power in the economic theory market, and so economists cater to them. since economic theory consumers aren't interested in economic realities as they don't reflect their interests, economists dream up the crap fables the rich demand to justify their disproportionate wealth

    One of the three major companies went out of business due to all of the lawsuits it got involved in.

    An ordinary citizen is not going to be on one of these bus lines. Most of their customers are immigrants with papers and illegals... that's not an "ordinary citizen" by any stretch of the imagination.

    True, the significance of one vote is not much when there are many voters but it's pretty obvious how the ammount of power one vote wields goes up when the amount of voters goes down.

    it doesn't matter who you vote for when you have only two viable choices who have the exact same policies as each other and indeed the same policies as the current administration
