If they're going to be getting information from a camera-equipped set-top box, I think they may be disappointed. How many ads for Vaseline and Kleenex can they sell?
Anybody who believes this is about giving the Chinese people more information just isn't paying attention. It's the exact opposite. This is about perfecting a censor-friendly search engine that will be jammed down our throats one way or another.
I wonder if there are already people keeping track of the deniers, so that when the effects of climate change really start to cause problems, the ones who actively delayed steps to minimize the damage can be held to account, or perhaps their descendents. Perhaps stripping their assets might be enough, but if things get as bad as I suspect they will, I wouldn't be surprised to see more than a few "necktie parties", with officials turning a blind eye and maybe even leaking an address or two.
We've been controlling it, or at least affecting it, pretty effectively in a bad way for a while now. Didn't you notice?
So yes, it is within the scope of human control. We just can't do it in a few days or years. Of course, the pyramids weren't built over a long weekend, either.
Thank you for that. It's pretty clear we've uncovered a Chinese troll account. We're far from the only ones here who actually know Chinese people who have fled that odious regime, often carrying no more than the clothes on their back.
Few people find themselves at a place and time where they can make a real difference to the lives of others. Fewer still act. I honour you for your service.
...if it wasn't coming from a treasonous bottom feeder who has consistently turned a blind eye while Russia raped Lady Liberty and put a puppet ruler in the White House. And a Democrat who has proved to be, at best, inept when it comes to managing the worst excesses of Rubio, John Cornyn a couple of other Republicans on that committee.
As a Canadian, I want to be crystal clear: I am NOT saying China is trustworthy. Far from it. China is one of the most terrifying governments on the planet, with their efforts to meet and exceed George Orwell's worst totalitarian nightmare. I certainly haven't forgotten that the technological sell-out giving this appalling regime access to Nortel's patents is Canada's fault. It occurred under the Conservative Party government of Stephen Harper, Canada's most recent contribution to North America's apparently limitless capacity for breeding treasonous right wing pricks. Speaking of which...Marco Rubio is the last person who should be yapping at another country about security when he has sold out the United States of America without a second thought. And Warner should shut up because he's been such a little bitch while his own country is being sold out from under him.
Moderated down for plain, honest speech in three, two, one...
So how are the people who have been getting creamed for years trying to short Tesla stock going to pitch this as FUD?
I look forward to reading carefully-placed stories in the business press intended to convince us that getting hurt or killed in a car crash is actually a good thing.
1. Relentlessly push average users to store all their valuable data in a few well-known default locations, and make it an on-going fight to store it elsewhere.
2. Take the same approach to updates. Every time Microsoft gets access to a Win 10 computer, they reset everything to default...which means automatic updates for people who don't know how to turn them off and keep them off.
3. Push out a defective update that wipes data in the default locations.
If the conclusions are accurate, and more than half of the negative comments belong to trolls, I have to say that in this case, the trolls have it right. The current incarnation of Disney seems utterly devoted to sucking all the joy, edginess and originality out of their movies to deliver serviceable but soulless flicks that are barely adequate as a Friday night time-waster on any half-decent home entertainment setup. But after a Friday night out at the theatre, you leave feeling ripped off. I can see some bean counter with a clipboard going down a list of proven focus group pleasers, ticking off each one: leap from high place to extended leg squat landing...check. Sardonic eyebrow raise...check. Heroic death of expensive old actor to clear the way for cheap young replacement hero...check.
Anybody who has read my comments here know I'm far from conservative, but in this case the fans alleged to have a case of toxic masculinity (and the Russian trolls, apparently) have my complete support.
This movie disappointed me. It had no imagination, no spark of originality, no sense whatsoever that the characters had any purpose but to march along their pre-defined paths to a pre-defined conclusion. I'd call them shallow and undeveloped, but that would be a gross insult to puddles and fetuses. And the ending was simply the place where our dollars get directed to the next movie by way of the merch store. It has never been more obvious that Disney regards us as nothing but wallets with legs, and anything that gets between them and the contents is extraneous and a waste of money.
So yes, The Last Jedi sucked. It didn't suck because they made a girl the hero. It sucked because I am old enough to remember how I felt when I saw, on the biggest screen in Toronto, that Star Destroyer pursuing Princess Leia's little ship in the first minutes of the very first movie.
I think we both know how that's going to work out. Does anybody believe Ivanka Trump is qualified to be advising the "leader of the free world" about anything?
I see your point, but I think the solution is to make it clear the very idea that "earning" a place on corporate boards is a myth.
It might even make sense to turn the situation on its head, and make the argument that people choosing a woman for such a position will make damned sure she's qualified, because failure to do so will make them look bad. Then contrast such appointments with those of men whose only qualification is that daddy knows the CEO. Or cite cases where the companies only cared about an interlocking relationship with another board, and only one guy was available to attend the meetings of both corps without constantly flying half way 'round the world.
Pretty girls, Viking men, a social safety net Americans don't even dare to dream of, better education than Americans get, health care...and they didn't elect a moronic grifter to the highest office in the land.
Yeah...you could definitely stand to be more like Sweden, but you couldn't deal with actual freedom instead of the sad, empty lie you have allowed to replace it.
You should probably pay more attention to places like Sweden, which require a certain percentage of females in their government. So far the Swedes haven't been fucktarded enough to elect anybody like Donald Trump to high office.
This seems to me like a shouting match between streetwalkers, with each one screaming that the other is a "Ho".
So a failed launch is a stunning success because there were survivors?
Got it!
Excellent point.

Don't bother with this creep. Look at his other comments on this thread. It couldn't be more obvious he's a Chinese government troll.

A cynic might suggest that anybody stupid enough to use Bing would probably want this kind of thing to turn up near the top of their searches.
Well said.
Nice to see that the guy who gets most of his annual salary by blowing Intel's board of directors has found part-time work as an AC on Slashdot.
Way to climb that career ladder!
So how are the people who have been getting creamed for years trying to short Tesla stock going to pitch this as FUD?

Those Borg babies...they're so cute when they're young.

Do I have that about right?
ROFL!!!
I never have mod points when I would just LOVE to have mod points. You'd be getting one for really, truly making me laugh out loud over that!
Thanks for brightening my day.
It sounds to me like the corporations named denied the report. They're a long, long way from refuting it.
So did I.

So they say they release aggregate data...but they are collecting phone numbers.
