Wow. We must be using the word ``embed'' completely differently. I had always thought of ``embed a in b'' as meaning something along the lines of: ``Make the source for a an include file for b.'' Are you saying that you can call the IE library (dll?) from your program? Can you do it if you aren't using Windows? Can you redistribute it? Freely? Can you (or your agent) fix it if it is broken?
In fact you can call the IE library from an outside source. You must be using windows, but that goes to the other point now doesn't it? You can redistribute it, and you can do it freely.
Wow. We must be using the word ``customize'' completely differently. I had always thought of ``customize c'' as meaning ``change the program c''. I'm not sure how you're using it. Has Uncle Gates let you use the source, Luke?
You might not be able to recompile the source, but IE is fully customizable by using ActiveX, maybe not as easy as it is in Mozilla, but still possible.
I agree with you that they probably shouldn't be stored on an internet connected system, but to do about recurring charges. If a company has a large subscriber base that gets charged monthly on their card. And those transactions are all processed over the Internet, they need to be stored on an Internet Connected system.
Even if he programmed this, he would be too lazy to test it.
I know what he is talking about though. I like programming when something is a challenge, and I'm not sure how I'm going to accomplish it. But as soon as it gets down to small details and testing, i find it very tedious. Oh well... Those are the breaks!
It strikes me that being the first to implement a protocol is risky. What if nobody else implements it. What if it is trashed all together? What if it is shown that it isn't all that great after all?
Get a few big companies to use it and watch the rest follow.
1. You write software for company X. 2. You get paid. 3. Company X uses this software and makes money. 4. Company Y finds this software useful and doesn't add to it. 5. Instead of Company X having the competitive advantage, they just gave the software to Company Y for free.
Now open-source isn't looking as appealing! I think open-source may have it place, but not in every instance!
This is somewhat OffTopic, but I'll risk the karma hit.
I'm interested in having a custom computer built for me. If I were to pick out all of the components I wanted, where would be the best place I could go and have them build it? I am not a hardware person at all, and building a computer for scratch seems to me to be about as fun as being kicked in the balls. Are their and companies out there that allow you to pick all of the components (read: don't force you to use items they nessecarily carry) and build the box for you. Preferably I would like someplace that has a fair price, but really anywhere would be ok.
Congrats on running Mozilla.. However that doesn't mean you are Bug Free
Actually, I use both Mozilla and IE, but these stories that are being posted on Slashdot are just silly. You are mad if they do patch. You are mad if they don't patch. Make up your mind Slashdotters!
God forbid Microsoft release a patch. What would you rather have them do? If this were the newest version of the Linux kernel, the people of Slashdot would be planning a parade. It is a patch to a microsoft product though, so it is time to bring out the bashing. Give me a break!!!
The computing power of all of the computers on the internet would probably be greater, but would only be effective if this test can be run with most of the calculations being done in parallel. Otherwise it wouldn't really matter!
WTF are you talking about? It isn't like Microsoft promotes access as a high-end relational database. No, they have a little something called SQL Server that does that for them.
I'll be the first to admit that Access blows. But nobody uses it for anything other than storing grandmas recipes!
Recently someone at HP announced that if the HP/Compaq deal did not go through, HP was considering dropping their PC line all together. This is what the parent post was referring too.

Run for Congress.
I'm more concerned with this statement.
Kasper you ought to get Martin's computer show some statement about HP vs. TI calculators everytime it boots.
Surely they could come up with something more interesting than that to display at boot.

Unfortunetly for you Wil was left on the cutting room floor!
I think the point is to not lose the data, not to have someone to blame.
Pricegrabber lists it as low as $101.53! Too bad that is lunch for a month!
Look at this scenario:
1. You write software for company X.
2. You get paid.
3. Company X uses this software and makes money.
4. Company Y finds this software useful and doesn't add to it.
5. Instead of Company X having the competitive advantage, they just gave the software to Company Y for free.

It should also be noted that this is the highest Weezer has ever charted!
You know, kind of like the standards we also hold the rest of the software industry to?
Right, because no software from companies other than Microsoft ever has security or reliability issues? Don't kid yourself!

Note the "wurp", generally indicative of an idiot!
So because I don't have a passport, I'm not a citizen? God damn it, I hate it when I lose my citizenship!

It is a Beastie Boys reference!
Mythical Man Month???
You are absolutely right. The government being corrupted by money. It's never happened.
Where did I leave my sarcasm tags at??? hmmmm!

So does this Aulstralian state have less stringent laws about Copyright violation? Is their a legal advantage to having the company there?
No, because I guarentee you there is more than one 'i' in the program. Then it would be all farked up!
