I realize it wouldn't power cars at its density level (natural gas already takes up too much space)
Why not? I am not an engineer, so forgive me any errors, but I ( and millions others around me) drive cars with CNG tanks, clocking at 200 bars. Now Wikipedia (not the best possible source, but IANAE, so again, forgive me) tells me that Hydrogen is stored for consumption at either 350 or 700 bar tanks. Now obviously 700 is too dangerous, but I think 350 bar tanks would be feasible to usage directly in cars (again, IANAE!).
BTW, Isn't that what happens in Hydrogen cars Merc and BMW and Honda and whoever release?
And I agree, I may have a fast PC to Crysis or whatever, but if I can, for example, play a Nintendo DS game on it's larger screen via an emulator, and if it's entertaining enough for me, why look else where?
As a Muslim, it would sadden me that you don't believe Creation by God (and by proxy, *in* God), but I can only present a good example from me to convince you, it would be the height of Folly to assume you don't have the right to believe in Evolution, just like you have the right to believe in creation by *several* Gods, or whatever.
Kindly don't confuse the issue, I am not saying the Students should NOT study evolution, merely that they should have the right to maintain their belief in being created by God.
As I have replied in detail to the other post above, I guess that it was simply me attributing what my teacher might have said to what the book stated. In the book were just two chapter, one on the evolution of biological research, which included reference of the research work of various scientist, including Darwin. Another chapter was a reference of Quran, which included stuff like who God created man from a clot of blood, etc.
I don't think there was a direct refutation of Darwin. I am sorry, it was in school a long time ago, and I dropped biology earlier on. I will see if I can track a current school textbook and see what it says.
As for belief, well, Darwin certainly had a lot of strong points, and I think it would be foolishness to ignore those. But I irrevocably believe in God having created us, in whatever manner or form.
Also, I have just realised that I am not exactly sure what creationism is! I mean, when people refer to "creationism", they are referring to the Christian model, as usually presented in the US, but due to the differences in belief, I guess our "Creationism" might be a lot more different. I am just not sure.
I apologise, but I can't exactly remember *what* biology books said, since it was oh so long ago, and I dropped biology afterwards. Also, due to flaws in our education system, we have had multiple varieties of textbooks (in all subject) due to changes in curriculum every few years, so frankly I am not even sure now which class biology *is* taught!
But I remember the gist of it, it was about the evolution of biological research, how scientist discovered plants needed needed air(oxygen) not just water as earlier hypothesized etc... You get the idea, among those discoveries was Charles Darwin's discovery too, that I definitely remember.
However, I reflecting back, I am not exactly sure whether the verses were there to refute Darwin (or any other scientist for that matter) in particular. There was just a chapter on the Quranic version, where it said how Allah created man from a clot of blood etc. You can search on the internet.
So I guess my setup of the sentence was perhaps wrong, but I think I maybe attributing what my teacher said to what was in the text book.
My apologies, I will try to track down a school level biology book if I can, but I won't be surprised if the entire chapter on research was deleted, not due to Darwin, mind you, but simply because one of the many curriculum changes might have deleted this entire section for something he thought was more appropriate and *up-to-date*, like the discovery cells in wood cork etc.
In fact, I distinctly remember a friend complaining his brother's biology book had the chapter on the verses missing too ("Dude! our education system is being taken over by the Infidels!11!")
AS for the part about beliefs, I am not going to mess over that. Islam insist you take treatment for ills, that whole "prayers alone will save me" shit doesn't fly in our religion, you *must* take action, and pray too, basically the motto is "Do your best, and *then* leave the rest to God", if you won't take medicine or preventative measure, that means you are not doing your part.
However, if a Christian friend were to refuse medicine...well I am not sure. That's a bridge I will cross when I come to it.
I, too, will pitch my hat in the ring to provide a Muslim perspective.
I am from Pakistan, which is about as conservative and Muslim as you can get (okay, so KSA is even more so...but you get the gist)
However, when I was taught biology in school, guess what, I was taught Darwin!
It was simple, the text simply said, "Charles Darwin, a renowned Scientist hypothesized in his theory that..." and then followed by "However, we as Muslims, believe that [insert relevant verses here]"
Simple as that!
If these students were to come to a medical college in Pakistan (and we quite a few of International level) then, surprise surprise, there would be a chapter on Darwin.
Look, we are Muslims, and I know the general trend of Slashdot is towards atheism/agnosticism, but I strictly believe in a right to believe your religion in peace. So I will not say that the very idea of Creationism is wrong, If I (and they) want to believe that, it is my(/our) right.
However, if an eminent scholar presents forward a *theory*, there is no harm in at least reading what he is writing.
Elop may have tried it, but it still isn't dead, they just issued a few new ones. After the Belle update, Symbian is *finally* what it was supposed to be, it's now at par with other OS, at least at the base level.
Also, update-wise, updates C- and D- are also already planned (sorry I don't remember the names, but Symbian is following the android pattern for update names)
Could you explain a bit more about your children and your sporting abilities?
Since this post is about sports and genetics, I am wondering, what are your and your wife's sporting abilities? Are you two also swimmers?
Also, what made both your kids swimmers? Did they naturally incline that way, or was it, as the article seems to indicate, something genetic? Or perhaps something in the environment (Access to swimming pool early in the age, all kids their age choose swimming etc...)
What about their capabilities in other sports? Do they have trouble performing sports of the wrong ACTN group?
Lastly, do you believe in this theory? And would you have performed that test and chosen accordingly?
The weird thing is, we don't text in English! We "txt" a bizarre 1337 Roman Urdu, with lavish sprinkling of punjabi curse words.
Awesome language, that Punjabi, it has both, some of the very best poetry *and* curses.
So yeah, our dear president, we will still continue to crude messages about you, good luck stopping us. (I could swear one in ten messages is something disparaging about the president, given my inbox)
This is, of course, if the list *is* real. First of all, it's unlikely PTA would have revealed it, and secondly, I don't think they would dare censor something like Jesus Christ. All the churches would be in uproar, and the Supreme court would rip them a new one.
(*BTW*, just to give an idea, Pakistan has one the highest rates for text messaging in the world. We have six companies offering extremely competitive sms packages, and we don't have incoming charges bullshit that you have there, so good luck filtering those tens of millions of messages sent every day.)
I am not a chef, but I thought it was *tomato paste* rather than *tomato sauce* in the pizza base, which I understand are two different things (Tomato paste just being puréed tomatoes or some such, IIRC)
As for *why* it is there? Well, it's a matter of tastes, here in Asia (at least in my part of the world) people like things spicy and sour. VERY spicy and sour.(Hint, you make *light* pickles in water base, we make a lot more *heavier* pickles in oil base, your pickles taste like flavoured water to us, to be given to kids. Major difference in taste)
Ketchup has vinegar in it, which makes it kinda sour and tangy. Also, in my country, they also give either "Hot&Spicy" (Some chillies thrown in) or "Chili Garlic"(a lot more chillies and garlic paste to boot) ketchup with with it, with people preferring the last.
Pizza without the Chilli Garlic sauce tastes rather salty and bland to our spice-tolerant tongues, with a lot of people having a "chilli-shaker" for the express purpose of adding chillies to that *bland* western food.
So if they can't have the Chilli, they will *at least* put some ketchup to get the sourness. Better some flavour than none!
I kinda like the sound of that, also, since the projectors shine at the wall, not directly into the reader's eyes like a device would, it wouldn't hurt his eyes.
Big-ass display, easy to set-up and operate (just paint a wall beige or whatever that droll colour is), and anyone in the family could operate. He could zoom onto whatever size he wanted, and it wouldn't be displayed in a disjointed fashion.
Also, another thing, I have heard it's easier on the eyes to see farther up than close up, so he wouldn't have to tax his eyes.
No, you are confusing debt with interest. Islamic finance allows debt, but not the interest on top of it. A debt can only be repaid by the principle. Interest is treated as something akin to the slavery bondage you mentioned above, and hence disallowed.
What the Islamic finance allows instead, is a purchase of the item (you want the loan for) by the bank it self, treat that as *its* purchase price, add a mark-up on it like any normal seller would, and then sell it to you on instalments. You have to declare the purchase price and profit mark-up before hand, and you cannot put any extra penalties or any hidden charges (like late fees).
There are a few other rules, but this is the relevant one, given your example.
Islamic Finance is getting very popular in the west (heck, no wonder there is a section on Islamic Finance in my ACCA Financial Management paper), and plenty of Muslims avail there. And even an atheist like your self can avail it, because even if you don't like the religious bit, Islamic finance might make a lot of sense for you on a purely commercial basis.
As for making the rules so that you can't buy the land of the rich/royals, that is absurd and untrue, please don't be misled by that.
They aren't but to penetrate the US means working with Carriers, that's why Nokia hasn't said anything.
However, According to the blog "ThisIsMyNext" Elop said they will be coming to the US "early 2012"[1], along with LTE and CDMA support. Also they spotted a Verizon employee[2], so the might give a clue.
Also, 4 S40 cellphones (The Asha series) and another Budget WP7 (Lumia 710) cellphone were also announced, and discreetly, a white version of the N9 was also displayed.
The way the N9 was displayed. it was almost like Nokia was embarrassed or something, most sites didn't even notice it was there.
This may be modded as flamebait, but I dunno if I want to have Alzheimer's treated by DNA modification.
My paternal grandma lives with us, and she is suffering from alzheimer's. It's is very painful, among other things, she does not recognise her own son and daughter-in-law, and thinks they are her father and mother, since she sees us call them dad and mom. So I know what it feels like, it's absolutely horrible and terrifying, and I don't ever want to go through that when I grow old.
But I don't know if DNA modification is the answer. I would never submit to that, nor would I submit my grandmother or any other family member to such a treatment. I would rather suffer Alzheimer, rather suffer some unknown side effect that could prove to be even worse, and may ironically not even cure alzeheimer!
I will readily agree it's a rather conservative view of mine, but I would rather we not mess with DNA.
gives a great insight; I was expecting all of them to cheered up by this, but a lot of people are against this, they realise the futility of banning facebook, and the hypocrisy of banning facebook while porn sites go unchecked.
Also, it seems a lot of them earn money via facebook, interesting, I never knew you could do that.

Reading around in the Meego Forum Thread on this topic, I found the following tidbits:
1-They are trying to dodge the MeeGo question, as asked directly in this IRC chat
2-Nokia have also noticed this, as seen by this tweet by a guy for for Qt/MeeGo at Nokia.
3-However, a Company called Novomok will provide Tizen with Qt, so...huh?
4- Also, Intel App up will be supported, and that's based on Qt apps, so yeah.
Actually, I re-played the video to hear the name, and unless there were different models of the de Dion Bouton, it *is* the very same car!
they did something almost similar, take a look, it's hilarious:
