Sounds like my experience in buying vehicles. For some reason wanting a vehicle with a manual transmission that isn't a civic or real sports car causes sales people at dealerships to look at you like you are retarded, especially if it is a truck or SUV. The last time I bought a vehicle there were a grand total of 6 that I could afford and met my requirements in a 100 mile radius. I also hate only being able to get certain equipment as part of a package that includes a bunch of crap I don't want or need. Why should I have to get the premium audio upgrade + leather trimmed steering wheel + heated seats if I all I want is the uprated locking front and rear axles.
Actually the reference of: If the feds can control what you grow on your own land for consumption by your own family
Was probably meant to be the Wickard v. Filburn case which said that if something has an affect on an interstate market the feds can regulate. So in that case because the farmer was growing food for his own consumption it had an affect on interstate commerce since the grain for his own consumption would otherwise have to be bought on the open market.
You are partially correct but the reference device that they would be using would have one or more PPS lines that are driving the actual clock ticks on individual machines. A time frequency device can act as an NTP server but for really accurate timing requirements the devices are connected directly to the computer instead of the network. Once initial time is set the only thing the computer cares about is the PPS signal from the device since that will determine when to switch the second (or what ever frequency you have it serving up). Things like this aren't terriably expensive and an amature could build such a device for a couple hundred dollars. A GPS receiver that has dual PPS lines with one fixed to 1 pulse per second with the second one adjustable from.25Hz to 10HZz pulses with both PPS lines having an accuracy of 15ns runs about $70. Now granted that is just the receiver (need some brains to serve up NTP, a power supply, and antenna) but building a full device from it isn't that difficult and commercial devices exist that do the same thing and cost a few thousand dollars. So having poorly synched clocks is a pretty piss poor excuse given that those people care about micro seconds and probably have computers that are synched to within a few tens of nano seconds.
Oh come on those are only slightly tamer than the Old Testament.
In all seriousness reading to children would probably be better for them even if the best stories are filled to the brim with sex and violence. My oldest has been exposed to a number of pieces of classic and iconic literature. He loves it and it is a great way to spend a weekend with bad weather. It is really funny when he is over a a friends house and they put on the Disney version of a story and he fills or corrects the details that are different from the original.
And there are people who actually existed and cities mentioned in Homer's Iliad that have also been found but that doesn't mean that the various Greek gods were real either.. Also there are places named in other great works of fiction like Beowulf that actually existed but I don't hear people claiming that the old Norse gods are real. What about older cultures and religions like the old Egyptian gods, Mesopotamian gods, or Hindu gods. They all have stories that mention places and people who actually existed but include fanciful portions of outright BS.
some additional overhead from doubling up on personnel management
You have now convinced me that this will be welcomed by companies as this means that existing managers will be able to hire additional MBAs. This is also why it will suck for any regular employees.
Fill out some FOIAs for your elected representatives. I now have a task for tonight and I will be writing to the local papers' letters to the editor sections letting them know that this has been done as it won't matter if no one knows.
This is why we as citizens should request the metadata that was collected on all of our elected representatives. It would probably be a like a giant brown note for all of them and something might actually change then.
If you really want to get people to wake up and realize what is happening you need to get to and annoy those in power, request the meta data gathered on your elected representatives, all of them, by filing FOIAs. That will get the politicians up in arms about this and they can do something about it. It might also be helpful to do the same for TV and radio personalities who down play this information collection. Then submit some letters to the editor of local papers announcing this and encouraging others to do the same. You would see this issue becoming a major non partisan issue with all opposed to it.
Probably. The mount would need to have it in a dive angle firing a hellfire missile. This is fairly similar to all other predator mounts where they are shown just about to attack and kill.
I like using credit cards since as dodgy as they are they are still less dodgy than PayPal. What is my liability limit with PayPal? Also can PayPal do charge backs like credit cards can?
This has apparently already happened to me since I keep getting debt collection calls for someone who is not be but is 15 years older. It isn't just credit cards but a car loan and student loans as well. Every couple of years those bad debts get sold to some other company who eventually think I am the person they are looking for and starts demanding payment. Maybe I just need to poison the data some more.
I just see so many people bitching about this sort of thing and yet none of them have ever bothered to try to make their voices heard to their reps and thus erroneously thought you were one of the many who don't bother to stay involved beyond just voting.
If you ever figure that out let us know. I have been looking for a while and haven't found one. Although if you want a cellphone for real emergencies (911 service only) then just get a cellphone that works and keep it charged.
Did you write your representatives? I know there were lots of people who wanted something done but did anyone other than me bother writing or calling their representatives. I wrote mine but Mark Kennedy, Wellstone, and Dayton all voted for it.
I am beginning to believe this line of reasoning more and more. This last winter my beater vehicle got hit twice within a week. The first time I was stopped and got rear ended by someone who had earlier in the day already rear ended another vehicle. The other time was while going down the freeway and someone who didn't bother to look tried to merge into the side of my jeep with focus. The other side of their car was all scraped up because earlier in the week they sideswiped a concrete road barrier. In both cases the other driver didn't want my insurance since I wasn't going to file a claim (trust me if you saw my jeep you would understand) and I didn't add any damage that couldn't have been attributed to their previous accidents.
Seriously it wouldn't surprise me to find out we had secrete plans for invading every country in the world since that is the kind of things military planners do. It also wouldn't surprise me to find out that other major world powers or other countries that think they are have similar plans. These plans probably all exist in some giant file cabinets and are probably re-planned every 10 years based off of current military capabilities.
Well given the stream of recent revelations it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. A year ago I would have agreed with you but now (with the exemption of the FEMA camps) not so much.

But a device like that costs thousands of dollars, that is like 30ms of profit.

and enough people are given mod points at any one time that the biases should reflect those of the users
So there will be bias but it is the bias that reflects the users.

Only wading boots, I was thinking more along the lines of chest waders.
Was that so hard
But those actions were done by a progressive democrat. Our current president would never do such a thing.
I assume by several you mean about 200.

Only so long as the companies get to maintain them as well.

But the current reboot is nothing like episode The City on the Edge of Forever which wasn't a lazy use of time travel.
