But I must say it becomes more of a PITA as time goes on. My Firefox install is so heavily modified it gives a lot of trouble...doesn't work with Slashdot at all anymore and I can't figure out why. For now I'm using a Chromium incognito window when I want to post a slashdot comment.
The US and everywhere else on the plent should absolutely adopt a "maximum wage" of 100:1 or closer, but the US won't due to their fiscal libertarian tendencies and/or wealth worship.
I think that they will be pressured to do so eventually though. Countries that adopt such laws will become wildly successful, for every selfish successful sociopath who packs up their wealth and leaves, there will be many more successful businessmen who stay and are propelled to levels of success never seen before. Simmering social unrest will dissipate and the country will become a better place to live with greater upward mobility. The US will probably be the last holdout, a hellhole of massive inequality among developed countries. At that point they'll join the rest of the world in short order, one way or another.
Maximum wage and mincome are the two most powerful ideas to buy us some time with capitalism and allow a bloodless transition to something better.
There is a way out...people voluntarily have less children when they have a better education and higher standard of living.
I realize that trying to avert overpopulation this way is quite scary because it's like hitting the gas instead of the brakes when your time-travelling DeLorean is heading for a wall, hoping you'll get up to 88mph before you reach the wall...but it could work.
Or you know we could look for solutions that don't require reduction of carbon emmisions. We could work on atmospheric scrubbing, or other climate engineering technology.
But is it possible or practical to scrub more carbon than we release? And what will power those systems, more fossil energy?
Plus there's the problem of tax dollars funding emissions largely produced by the extremely undertaxed rich, how convenient...
I think carbon capture will be some part of the solution but certainly not most or all of it. And I think most people vastly overestimate the difficulty of reducing carbon emissions.
Many people are already willingly switching to electric cars, within a couple of decades non-electric vehicles will be rarities. Next, if your house got its electricity from renewable and nuclear instead of coal energy tomorrow would you notice?
Calling it the J-SSOD when you could have called it the CubeSat Cannon...*facepalm*
Not only does that make it sound less exciting, but you gave up a chance to have it mistaken for a military project!
"Sir, we cannot defund the ISS or we will lose the CubeSat Cannon and the Chinese will be able to attack us with high-speed space woks at will! That's what they have right? I'm just assuming..."
Can you use any forms of international electronic payments where you are? Because I would start a crowdfunding effort to help you escape. I and some other Slashdotters would surely contribute. I figure $3kUS should cover travel and give you some money to start with? All I'd ask in return is a blog about how your life is going in Somalia so we can all see how much we helped you.
How convenient...so how far would you physically have to be from government control to be happy? What if Somalia had no government within its borders but neighboring countries did? Would it be OK to live in all of Somalia or just far from the borders?
The argument about the age of the car isn't a good one. Fire safety in cars has been pretty close to modern standards for many decades - at least since the '80s. And there are some factors that are not in new cars' favor as well - more common turbo systems, more densely packed engine bays, more electronics, more common composite materials.
I'm a Tesla S owner and I don't want this OTA update to compromise my car's handling. I can avoid large pieces of debris on the highway myself TYVM. I'll be less likely to roll the car while doing so with less ride height.
You can use FireGloves to make your browser much less identifiable...I'll warn you though, it increases the PITA factor significantly.
I think even the Nvidia and Broadcom problem isn't so bad these days, I haven't had any trouble with their hardware in the last few years.

Aw that's too bad, I could have had the payment made in iridium billets too. Let me know if you change your mind.
Translation: DO NOT WANT!

Congrats, you're now close to carbon-neutral.

Can't wait to get a pair of these!
Dumb people!? On MY INTERNET!?!?
Ah so is this the "super AIDS" I've heard so much about?
"Yes. Ask me how I know." - Isaac Asimov's ghost
Oh sorry to hear that. Which one of these is it?

Well then are you living in Somalia (outside the government-controlled zone) right now?
It will hurt the person receiving it, who then has to watch the rest of the world re-enact history.
Being able to laugh at the average level of geography knowledge doesn't make up for it.
The whole world being held back for the benefit of the few. It will be the defining characteristic of this period in history.
By "ill effects" I didn't mean getting caught by the law. I meant not being able to pay your bills and survive.

No change you could make within the suspension travel of a sports car is significant for clearing dangerously large objects in the road.

Genius marketing move, and it will probably be a rounding error in warranty costs - which will again pay off in marketing.

Just kidding! But what if I wasn't?
Better late than never!
It doesn't remotely level the playing field, they have half the money, and unlike us, they can spend almost all of it with no ill effects.
