  1. SHITCOCK! on Texas Teen Arrested Under New Online Harassment Law · · Score: 4, Interesting

There's a big difference between saying "This person, IMHO, is an asshole" and "I'm gonna punch your face until you bleed from the asshole" (just an example, I have never ever said such horrendous things. I'm appalled that you would take me for that kind of person you fucking piece of shit! I'LL KILL YOU!)

But seriously, I tell my kid and other kids in my family - don't say anything you wouldn't say in person. And if you threaten someone in person, well that's assault.

People need to learn that being a SHITCOCK Internet Fuckwad is unacceptable. People also need to grow thicker skin, but when it truly hurts someone it's time to stop.

Agreed. As someone who started a software company and failed, I can vouch that there's more to it then just software. Much more. Have a plan and make sure it's more than just "If you build it they will come".

The main lesson learned? Money is the life blood of business. Have a great credit line or a lot of cash. Tales of bootstrapping a business on $5k charged to a credit card leave out the inevitable need to actually pay for things beyond that. They are fairy tales spun to entice the reader and make the subject look like a "god of business". Don't fall for it. Be smart, have the bag of cash ready. It's going to matter more than your idea.

I should have been more clear, apologies - I know both objective-c and java. I don't really scoff at either one, they both have quarks but also unique advantages. I don't get attached to either one, but if someone dislikes java, I don't understand why they'd favor objective-c over it. Syntax is similar and performance issues are moot these days given the VMs out. To me it's like the old saying goes - six in one hand half a dozen in the other. I'll take either one. My initial comment is just displaying my general "ugh" regarding developing on mobile in general. All those skill sets lost from the yesteryear of PC programming come out to get around the same limitations - not enough CPU, not enough RAM, etc.

And to add to that, having developed for both iPhone and Android - Android is simply a better platform to develop for. Not because of objective C, that's okay. It's the lack of features such as multi-tasking and simple cross-app data sharing that makes Android shine over iPhone OS. (Just my opinion!)

But I think I'll take the pragmatic programming approach and develop for both. Cross platform dev for both will be the hotness by then IMHO.

Brits seem to be happy to give up their freedoms left and right. It's kind of insane. This is why you see "uppity" Americans constantly deriding the size and scope of government. No amount of protection will save you from the dangers life, so what exactly are you getting in return beyond a nosy neighbor being up your ass 24/7?

I don't know. Part of me says this is creepy. But part of me says this is no different than community watch programs. The freedom to abuse is always there, but some will accept that risk over the risk of getting hurt or having their property damaged.

Personally I go out of my way for a potential company if I like what I hear throughout the interview process. I can come back more than once. In fact I did two phone interviews with the same company and I'll be flying down there Monday to do an on-site interview. I get paid a very good living and I understand that my employers expect the best so I'm not too put out by it. A great job can turn into a lifetime position so one might as well put as much effort as needed.
