California sure is hell bent on strangling itself in regulations. I don't get the mentality. I consider myself green because I don't even own a car and ride a bicycle, hence my carbon footprint is very low. But I'm not buying into the "Opus Dei" mentality that is the modern green movement: self-punishment in the name of mother earth, our new god, and we deserve to suffer (by we I mean all of you).
I use process explorer from Sysinternals as my default, replacing the built-in task manager (windows). It can give me a basic virtual memory footprint or even more details if I drill down. A very useful tool for development and it beats task manager hands down.

I'm currently reading the book "Masterminds of Programming" (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596515171/) and this specific topic, concurrency, seems to be the biggest challenge out there according to the language creators they've interviewed. It's possible now to write code that runs across machines, but it's not so easy that it's pervasive in the industry. Maybe Languages like Go will help change that.

I would certainly agree with your last statement. I've seen some real assholes get away with stuff in the office world that would never fly in the blue collar world. They'd simply get their bell wrung. So people are a bit more "real" in blue collar than in the white collar world, in my experience.
Yes but if you're truly smart then you'll realize that being athletic isn't something to be avoided. It's something you strive for. A healthy body == a healthy mind. Discard those stereotypes and do yourself a favor. Put down the bag of chips and go for a walk. It will pay better dividends than anything you can ever learn.

But tell someone you work for the CIA and they assume you water board people for a living. That's why every employee has a cover story. That story is not to confuse foreign governments, but used to confuse the public who assumes every CIA employee is a "Boogeyman".
I would bet that most people would be quite underwhelmed if they saw the day to day at the CIA. That mystique is an advantage, and they like to use it to scare the bejesus out of people that would want to harm the US. But it works well.

For instance most people see the CIA as a bunch of bad asses with cell phone watches that project holograms of your dossier into thin air while sending you messages via ESP. Real life: rotary phones, paperwork in triplicate, and a gigantic fucking bureaucracy that thinks pagers are still useful.
