Anyone that's done a little research knows the scientists there really did some questionable stuff. They would also know that they've (CRU/IPCC) been taken to task by others in the scientific community for doing so. This suit is about bad journalism. But it does not change the facts about the shenanigans at the CRU.

Yeah this is shocking given the typical government network is locked down to the Nth degree. When I contracted on site for the Dept. of Health they actually cut me off from the network because I used torrent to download a Linux ISO. I violated policy and it cut off soon after the download started, and the jack went dead. It wasn't just "you can't surf the internet anymore". It was "VIOLATER! KILL HIM!" and I got dressed down soon after. So they closely monitored it.

This is juicy stuff. It kind of makes me change my mind a little towards Apple. Adobe has never really been my favorite but when I read a story about their support, or lack of, for OSX when it first came out and their feature-limited versions for that platform. Well it does change the landscape a bit and it starts to make more sense. I'm no fan of Flash but it seems it's more than that. This kind of confirms that.

Some mentioned Google Docs and that is a good starting point. If you need more features you can always use the Google App Engine and their cloud hosting. Every install comes with Django and you can use other CMS tools (python and java support)

I'm sure there are others but my main point was this might be a use-case for software as a service. It's not right for every situation, but it might be something to look at. It may take some weight off of your shoulders.

I disagree. I've seen the church help the homeless, the down on their luck. I've seen them talk people through the most difficult times in their life. My step-father is a pastor and his main "job" is at the hospital talking with people in very difficult situations. Now you can call that a crutch, etc. But if it helps someone through difficult times..

Myself I don't subscribe to the idea of an "institution" telling me what God thinks. That doesn't even compute. So although my family runs a church I haven't been in about 15 years. They're okay with that. It's not a stopping point for their love.

That's what I think of when I think of religion. Not mega-churches filled with the rich. Not Islamic extremists blowing things up. Not the pedophile covering-up catholics (or others!). But instead a place where when everyone else has deserted you; When you have absolutely nothing to offer anyone - they will help you. And the only thing they ask in return is a moment of your time to tell you what they believe spiritually. Hardly a bad thing.

Hello of a post and it got me thinking. We're not so different the Islamic extremist and I. The common theme seems to be "I will kill for" and maybe that's the problem. We need more understanding and stop using violence as the problem solver. In the long run it only creates more violence and pain.

I do wonder about my own devotion to personal freedom. Would it be right to kill a man if he denied me those freedoms? Quite the conundrum. If I kill them then what have I truly gained? Personal freedom. But was the cost too much? Probably. I've become a beast again with my actions.

You can't blame religion for idiots any more than you can blame politics for idiots. Some people will use any excuse to force control on others - religion, politics, science; It's a power thing and it drives every human being on the planet. Most of us just wrangle it in to something reasonable.

The problem with attacking religion is it's not the problem. So down the road when religion is destroyed the people will use another excuse to kill or control. The shit is never ending. But everywhere it appears we must fight it. Giving in to assholes that want to control you unreasonably is never an option. Death is more pleasing IMHO. I'll obey rules for the good of society, but not ones that are simply insane.

On a related note - why do HUMANS think they need to defend GOD? What is he the most nit picky SOB ever?

What kind of God is that? If that is God then I'll take hell.

  20. Re:Who gets to decide what the iPad is? on History Repeats Itself — Mac & the iPad · · Score: 1

Which is exactly why Apple will repeat it's own history. They need developers. But yet at every turn they try to piss developers off. They claim it's in the name of technical superiority. But again, they're talking to developers who can pick those arguments apart no problem so they don't stand up under scrutiny. So then it comes down to simple control and the developer looks at it and says "you know what? no thanks" and goes to a more open platform.

IMHO it's inevitable unless Apple changes it's policies. I like their devices, I want them to succeed because I love their dev platform. But I can't work in an environment where I'm not in control. It's hard enough to ship code to datacenters, clouds, etc. But at least those processes are transparent and unbiased. With Apple it's a guessing game. No thanks, not right now. I'll skip the "you're gonna be rich!"-a-thon where developers sell out everything that should be important to them.
