there isn't a truely user friendly interface for GnuPG that i've seen. perhaps there out there, but in my mind, there should be a windowed version of the program. GnuPG is just too much of a hassle to use w/o a manager program, and most of them seem to be written by people who know nothing of user interfaces (at least for real people). thanks, i'll stick to pgp, it's a program i can use w/o reading a manual or having a degree in engineering.
agreed. the ps2 was supposed to be running at near supercomputer speeds, and there were concerns over the possible use of foreign countries using them to (i guess) crack codes or develop nuclear weapons or something. come on... the damned thing is a dog and produces slow pixelated graphics (when compared to the other 2 nextgen game systems). were it not for sony's microsoft-like marketing abilities (that even microsoft can't seem to manage w/ their own system) the ps2 would be at the back of the pack games-wise... but i digress... =)
In relation to the Bowie article posted earlier, I thought I might pass along this song whose contents hold true to the times from his album 'Diamond Dogs' titled 1984 (which was supposed to be a theme album based on Orwell's 1984 but they couldn't secure the rights, so he wrote around it).
1984 by David Bowie from the album Diamond Dogs
Someday they won't let you, so now you must agree The times they are a-telling, and the changing isn't free You've read it in the tea leaves, and the tracks are on TV Beware the savage jaw Of 1984
They'll split your pretty cranium, and fill it full of air And tell that you're eighty, but brother, you won't care You'll be shooting up on anything, tomorrow's never there Beware the savage jaw Of 1984
CHORUS
Come see, come see, remember me?
We played out an all night movie role
You said it would last, but I guess we enrolled
In 1984 (who could ask for more)
1984 (who could ask for mor-or-or-or-ore)
(Mor-or-or-or-ore)
I'm looking for a vehicle, I'm looking for a ride I'm looking for a party, I'm looking for a side I'm looking for the treason that I knew in '65 Beware the savage jaw Of 1984
CHORUS
1984 1984 1984 (more) 1984 1984 (more) 1984
Listen to it in context with the entire album and I think you'll really see what I mean.
actually his earliest work was folk, and a lot of early rock covers (ala rockabilly & doo-wop, blues and R&B) during his times w/ various bands like The King Bees...
while i think marc bolan aka t. rex 'invented' glam, it was bowie who brought it out for the world to love it or hate it, and was quickly xeroxed by every other musician straight into the 80's (though a little morphed) via big hair and makeup, and on into the 90's via goth and right into now.
although i've never been able to get into tin machine much, i do so love outside. truly a masterpiece. buddha of suburbia is a great album too, and an oddball in its own right.
bowie's latest comes from columbia/iso records not emi... from what i've heard, he didn't have a lot of control w/ his emi deal... thus the shitty rereleases...
uhhh... most NEW os's have spec issues. how many machines that were sold 5 months before win95 could run it well? or how about win nt? most machines have various problems running new os's, whether it be too little memory to meet the specs, too little hd space, or what have you... this is nothing new...
"Gawd, can you imagine a true digital projection of Monsters, Inc. or Atlantis: The Lost Empire? It would be eye-opening clear, that's to be sure.:-)"
Yup, I can imagine it, cuz I already saw them there, digitally projected... In fact, the first movie I saw there was Dinosaur. Even if you didn't like the movie, the picture, sound and presentation were awesome. =0
i used to work for radio shack back in '95-96 and the backoffice machine in each company owned store was xenix based. the individual pc's that stood for pos stations were dec machines, and they were apparently just running as dumb terminals to the host machine. just wondering if anyone else knew anything about their old system...
I can't agree more. I love NPR because they give the most well rounded (though, still flawed sometimes) new reporting around any of the 'big' media, but the kind of tactics that you don't hear about, like their stance on pirate radio is infuriating. They are worried that the non-licensed operators are going to screw up their reception (thus limiting their commercial free, member paid based service). Understandable, but geeze...
On to the issue of Ogg Vorbis... I've done some preliminary testing of it, and I have to say, the new code is really good. It sounds different than an mp3 of the same song (different encoding schemes), but still sounds pretty damn good when compared to the original. My biggest problem is that it doesn't have a nicely standardized ID3-like tagging system. Instead it has an open interface that allows you to put any kind of data in the fields. While the openness of this may be attractive to some, I'd like a more standardized set of fields for Artist, Song, Album, Year, etc. etc... A minor complaint, but something I personally dislike enough to have it limit my use of the Ogg standard for now (ie. I REALLY LIKE ID3 TAGS). Perhaps there is software that will have a standard template to do this kind of thing just like mp3's? Haven't looked for something like that just yet...
Just thought you all would benefit from some of Scott McCloud's writings on comics (he's the author of Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics as well as a comic artist himself). His work on Online Comics has been really interesting, and informative. You might also enjoy reading Demian5's webcomic "When I Am King" which has been getting a lot of attention. If you are at all interested in self publishing, you must take a look at Dave Sim's "Cerebus' Guide To Self-Publishing".
I was just curious if anyone else noticed this... The software it is using looks a lot like what was on the supposed Apple 'iWalk' videos that have been circulating... Wonder if that's what they used for their hoax (assuming it is a hoax, as there is still the Japan Mac show)...
http://monkeysvsrobots.com is what you're looking for =) take a look!
email the guy if you see things are missing. he asks that you help him out at the top of the page... sheesh...
i'd almost start to wonder if your power supply or something was giving out... just a guess. either that or you have extraordinarily bad luck.

maybe it's... jeeze, i dunno...
sounds sketchy to me...
i'd say this is going to draw a lot of controversy...
ugghh... hehe
sorry, horribly off topic.
i'm guessing it's this sketch club, and not this one... =)

grrr... i hate responding to rotten bridgedwelling creatures such as you... but...
all great musicians are influenced at least in part (whether they will fess up to it or not) by musicians of the past. the same is true of all art.
this release was probably due in part because of bowie's new contract w/ columbia and his own new label iso...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 802.11a isn't on 2.4Ghz is it? I thought that was b only (and g will be backwards compatible to b when it's out).
it looks like apple blew off and polished the old newton handwriting code for osx... neato =)

yeah and he probably eats babies too...
yeah, and kurasowa just took old shakespeare tales and reworked them for his movies...
and shakespeare took tales he heard as he traveled and reworked them...
and tales told through oral tradition have all been reworked many times over before they are told to people like shakespeare who wrote them down...
so i guess everyone influences/steals/borrows from everyone...

Haha. Actually, I just found Al Lowe's (creator of Larry) website and it has an article about the pre-history of Larry Laffer.
hasn't someone written a book on performance tuning linux? just a suggestion for those of you who might be interested in such a thing...

I believe the answer you are looking for is rather obvious...
The Heisenberg Compensator!
It's imaginary, so why not kludge it's intended use here?
