There are other exceptins too, but really what Monsters, Inc. has
done is taken the state of the art CG that pixar has perfected, and
used it to tell a story. And I think that it might be awhile before a movie comes a long and is able to up the ante as much as Toy Story and Toy Story 2 did. I think this is much more akin to a Bug's Life, where they broke less new ground in the rendering techniques,
and instead tried to do more with the characters.
And that is the difference between filmmakers making a movie and videogame producers making a movie... As a filmmaker myself and a fan of movies in general, I hope the people at Square are watching Monsters Inc... There is an attitude in the industry that seems to dominate people's minds saying 'more technology = higher production value = better film'. Unfortunately that equation doesn't work out. The real equation is: 'good writing + good acting + good light, sound and camera work = good film'. Pixar seems to understand this concept. They are fortunate to be able to use new technology for their films, but realize the technology doesn't drive the movie, the script does...
Of the many movies that come out each year, there are far too few that really understand this concept. Hopefully that will change...
hmmm... funny, i have the same drive for about the same amount of time and it isn't noisy at all. still is nice and fast and error free. it is unfortunate you had that experience because ibm has some of the highest QC specs of any company around. i guess some problems slip through though, *ahem* OS/2 *ahem*. =)
Well maybe, and I know I am, I'm just a victim/lover of marketing, but I DID like the commercials they played here in CA at the local Edwards theatres for the last few months. They featured Bowie, BB King, Snoop Dogg and another artist that I can't remember. Very cool commercial. Just thought I'd share that. =)
Aww! I've been trying to find out who wrote that song for years now. Silly stuff. Anyone know who did it? I just downloaded a WAV file of it, I dunno, years ago though and I've always wondered who did it...
Did anyone else look at the html on that page? Holycrap it is loaded with a ton of CSS and JavaScript. I was trying to figure out why that page scrolled so slowly... There's the reason!
In this article he wrote for ZDnet, Bruce Schneier (of counterpane.com and author of applied cryptography and countless security whitepapers) has talked about this in good detail here: ZDNet Article.
it would seem that if you are going to emulate multiple systems on a single machine you are going to need some big iron to run it... course, what is tax money for anyway?
I wonder what the FCC would say about this if someone did it in the US? The 2.4 Ghz stuff wouldn't be a big deal I guess, but the propagation of the signal may... I dunno, what do you think?
I am not a fan of metallica or dr. dre, I have never searched for them, or downloaded their music. I do however use Napster, and I have a cable modem. I have found that I am banned from the Napster network. Well, my IP has been banned. My roommate however has looked up Metallica shit. So now, he has screwed me over because we share the same IP. So what am I supposed to do now? I listen to a lot of obscure music that is rather hard to find. I have found that their are a lot of other users that have similar interests. Metallica isn't it (so fuck off Lars!). Now what am I supposed to do?
I'm all for the DivX codec (I have 3.11alpha on my machine). However, has anyone thought to think of the legal consequences?
As I understand it, DivX uses a hacked version of Microsoft's MPEG4 technology with a synchronous MP3 sountrack. I remember Microsoft making a fuss about it a while ago...
All I'm saying is that you might want to think before you leap. While it may be a great technology, it isn't properly licensed. So all of your efforts are in legal terms, vein...

i personally don't mind it there, but as for a search box, Opera has one right in the browser. check it out...
So I take it that the Nintendo PowerGlove won't work for you then, huh? =)

I have a 20.5 Gig model. Hope it isn't affected. However, I've had it for over a year now and it's working fine. >
