E3 was only ever a conference for game companies and the supply chain very very long ago and the last 2 years... as the last 2 years showed game companies simply didn't feel the need for a conference like that any more. E3 as a marketing tool towards end users was a far bigger success, it generated lots of hype... a success they are now trying to recapture.
Although PAX is in competition with them now, I don't think that will last as E3 moves back to letting the online "press" in (ie. any joe with a blog). Too strict admission standards were a failure, but completely open ones like PAX just don't work well for hyping products either. An alternative is mixed press/public days like the TGS, but because of their background I don't think PAX can really do that.
Well, the rumour was that they were going to use 3DV's cameras. Which essentially measure depth for each pixel, making it much easier to determine pose.
Why would you find it strange that it got removed? Saying the church "came out strongly in support" is not NPOV. You can say that according to someone else in the news they came out strongly in support of him, you can say "this many ministers came out in support of him" if you can back it up... what you can't do is pull a tendentious unsupported statement out of your ass on such a touchy subject and not expect it to get challenged.
It's easy enough to paint something or someone in a bad light with a clever portrayal of facts rather than original research and non NPOV language... if you are smart. The UCC edit got removed because it was dumb and went counter the rules. Wikipedia is a MMORPG... L2P.
They don't have any of the constitutional powers of cabinet member, why would they have to be vetted by the senate? The president has the constitutional right to chose how, when or if at all to listen to cabinet members. In the end it's merely a slightly higher profile presidential aide.
DLP picoprojectors are already pretty cheap, the problem is that it still needs to be setup like a traditional projector because it uses projecting optics... whereas with a laser projector it's easy to project in focus on any surface from any angle (although you would need programmable keystone correction to make the most of that).
They are probably eavesdropping only, if complete SIM cloning without physical access was possible with just a modified phone that would be much bigger news than this.
Really? Structured light to find 3D geometry is old hat... the optical and signal processing part of book scanning seem pretty easy, making the mechanical part for page flipping robust seems a lot harder to me.
If Microsoft really is using the 3DV camera then it's not like the eyetoy, it measures the time of flight of IR from camera to surface to sensor for each pixel. It captures a depth map, lighting conditions are irrelevant for this function.
The 3DV camera uses IR, it emits 2 short duration IR pulses. The first is used to measured the reflectance of the surfaces at each pixel, the second is gated by an extremely fast shutter in front of the camera.
By comparing the two values the distance to objects can be computed for each pixel.

Those are side effects from the rules of the game, the rules are that you need edits to level up... the rules allow you to put citation needed tags up everywhere. They are not lazy, they use the easiest path toward their goal... they are efficient in fact.
"especially since the artists were trying to edit content directly on Wikipedia. So, after listening to our editors' feedback, we sent a letter to Wikipedia Art that was aimed, not to threaten legal action, but to outline what our legal concerns were, and to try to begin a negotiation to resolve the matter amicably -- ideally by switching the domain name over to us, but not by requiring any content changes on their site at all."
So they told it their use was illegal and they should hand it over... yes, that is a threat.
Aren't your talents a bit wasted on application development though? I'm sure the money is good if you are top of the pile... but still.
I don't think your story is all that encouraging for those who aren't prodigies. People aren't all as gifted as you... some of us need the college diploma to get the foot in the door, because as an average joe we can't make up the black mark from the lack of it with hard work alone.
College isn't just for the lazy, but also for the mediocre... and anyone who intends to get into research.

DLPs do flicker (as do plasma displays). It's just at a high enough frequency you don't notice.
DLP picoprojectors are already pretty cheap, the problem is that it still needs to be setup like a traditional projector because it uses projecting optics ... whereas with a laser projector it's easy to project in focus on any surface from any angle (although you would need programmable keystone correction to make the most of that).
Guess it only used to be a problem then ... although the proof is in the pudding of course.
SSDs are pulling a whole lot more than that ... at least when they are new ;)
They don't produce a very good green. Frequency doubled IR is not an option either because you can't modulate the beam fast enough.
So you are in favour of central market control then?
Or just in education?

Yep, and I'm sure almost everyone will be saying how you can't make a good single shard fantasy MMORPG right up to the point they do it.
Most people's first visit to Youtube is greeted by trash too.
DDO too (although it still has servers).
Well, unless the light is strong enough in comparison to the light emitted by the camera that it will saturate the ADC.
The measurement is done within a couple of nanoseconds ... any IR light source which is approximately constant during that time will not affect the it.

Yeah ... still a threat.

Isn't the problem simply one of integration time? (ie. getting enough interactions for imaging in too short a time cooks the enzymes.)

Could you give a specific example?
