Funny, cause I run vista, and have a personal policy against installing anything that falls out of Jobs' ass, and I haven't seen a BSOD since I killed XP (which felt good). Vista is a GOOD OS. There. I said it. Now get all of those bastard third party software vendors to sort thier shit out and windows might lose the reputation it has.

Windows is a great OS and the only reason it ever fails is because it lets you do what you like. Apple is so DRM locked down that you're unable to make it crash cause they won't let you do anything with it. Linux at least doesn't crash for the right reasons - its stable and third party software is decent.

If you're a sensible person and don't install shit software (such as apples) then you'll find Vista to -shock horror- actually work. Fill it up with the kind of shit DRM bollocks you get these days and what do you know - it falls over. Guess what. Thats YOUR fault, not microsofts.

FYI - I am NOT a MS fanboi, I'm just sick to death of everyone saying vista is shit, when they probably havent tried it, and are probably just saying that because of stories like this where third parties are fucking incompetant.

My PC is 2 years old, although I did splash out on the GFX card a little. Games which are graphics intensive are easily pleased. However the same system starts to slow down under supreme commander when you have 8 players and a 1000 unit cap. I guess that could be RAM or CPU, not sure which, the CPU is a Core2Duo OCed to 3Ghz, so it should be pretty sweet and theres 2 gigs of ram in there. Its all pretty standard stuff compared to todays cheapy dells.

Anyway... my point is that the PC wins, and it doesn't have to try all that hard.

The last question asked throughout all of time was 6*7 (if you actually ever listend to the original radio show or watch the original tv series).

The only thing commical about "42" is that the people who asked the question asked the wrong question. You just make yourself look dumb by knowing the answer when you dont know the question either.

The power of a mathematical model and its caveats, are in fact best described by Douglas Adams' fictional supercomputer Deep Thought [wikipedia.org]. Deep Thought could indeed provide the answer to Life the Universe and Everything(42), and it was perfectly correct. But it wasn't any good because no one knew the correct Question to ask in the first place.

    (Emphasis mine)
You're right and wrong. The question they asked was "what is the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything".
Of course they meant the meaning of life, but Deep Thought understood ultimate as last, which is quite right, to be fair. And the last question to be asked by anyone at the end of time was 6x7.

See? I'm amazed how many people don't understand that, and still find "42" to be funny as a response to meaning of life questions... bah.

Even if they wanted to, a lot of households NEED two incomes to make ends meet. Even though, in the vast majority of cases, each parent by themselves earns a lot more in real terms than households with a single earner typically did, say, fifty years ago? It would be more accurate to say they need to incomes to keep up with the lifestyle of other people with two incomes.

Ok, I live in england, and I'm pretty sure our house prices are way higher than the states, but here's my two cents...
I'm 22, and I work full time in banking in london. Its a long commute, a long day and often means working late and at weekends. I have a girlfriend and an 18mo boy. She stays at home because a) she hated her job and didn't want to go back after maternity, and b) we decided that having a parent around all day was better than daycare.

These are our lifestyle choices, and I accept that. HOWEVER, because of the number of two income families, if you want to buy a house you need two incomes. I have a pretty well paid job and live in a pretty cheap area, and I'm still forced to rent the scummy flat I live in now. If we were to say... double my salary, we could afford to BUY a small nice house. The Problem is that because the MAJORITY of families are dual income, people can afford to buy nicer houses, until it gets to a point where you NEED two incomes to buy ANY house.

The "sexual revolution" has been the best thing for the economy and "growth" since the industrial revolution. I'm happy with the choices our family have made, but we are very poor, financially because of it. The trade off is a happy healthy son and home life. I'd rather my son had a parent all day than we had a nicer house that none of us ever saw because of work/daycare.
