    We have basic cable and basic HD. Download the rest via RSS and torrents. It worked well for years.
    In fact we even download shows we can PVR off regular TV just to avoid fast forwarding through the commercials.

    I have supported developers for over a decade, and rarely have I found one with a grasp on how hardware, drivers, network stack and logical and physical layers work.

    I can assume they're Java developers.

    Talking to the guy would have invited negotiation with him. Then millions in court costs as he's stuck in a jail somewhere. Following that would be the attempts at freeing him.

    Why is it read only by default? To frustrate users is the only reason I can come up with.

    If a driver is known to be potentially flaky and may put data at risk, I think the user having to knowingly enable RW with that caveat is a safe and decent.

    Affluent youth, at least around here, are buying iPhones and Android phones. The ones with Blackberries have them as the units were free (or dirt cheap) with their contracts. You don't see many high end Blackberries in the hands of the kids.

    We can't figure out how to get just 2 Exchange accounts syncing on our work Blackberries through BES. On my personal iPhone it's boneheaded simple.

    Maybe where you are.

    Here you hear kids using metric all the time (on the bus, for example). I'm 45 and metric here came into the schools when I was in grade one or so. My bathroom scale is in kilograms, house thermostat is celsius. It's bonehead easy to know how the measures look in real life if i's (almost) all you use.

    And really, why would kids need to know the approximation of litres to gallons? Everything here that's liquid is sold in litres: milk, Pepsi, gas, motor oil, whatnot. The stuff at the deli counter is in $/ 100 grams. Old ladies will ask for their stuff in grams, not that old system.

    Canada changed in the 70's.

    There was the inevitable whining but the old timers are dead or dying on (Netcraft confirms it). Their grandkids know metric. Easy enough.

    Stores still sell "2x4's" and what not, but I think that's mostly due to proximity to the US.

    I've used BT (mentioned elsewhere here) and it works well, much easier on the battery.

    Lately I use MyWi less as what it was meant for and more as a troll whilst on the bus or in public places. Create a bogus, secured hotspot with an exceedingly rude name and let 'er go.

    Different radios use different amounts of power. Bluetooth was designed to be low power, that's why Bluetooth headseats can go forever on a charge.

    When I use MyWi on my iPhone, I've noticed a huge difference in battery consumption when using the WiFi3G bridge. BT3G is very nice by comparison.

    MyWi is a great program (I'm also a happy customer) but having both 3G and WiFi radios blazing away sucks battery life like mad.

    Great in a pinch or for random use, but when we bought an iPad we went with the 3G version (on Rogers here in .ca).
