  1. You are aware... on Game Developers Should Ignore Software Pirates · · Score: 1

There are free online servers for WoW, from what I hear. I'd be surprised if there weren't for any of the other online-only games.

Expansions and updates are also easily cracked.

The only (non moral) reason to pay for the online experience is if your friends refuse to use pirated versions. No use playing the game to spend more time with your friends, if you can never get to their (legit) server.

  3. They're losing money on $5 Per Month Fee Proposed For Legal Music P2P · · Score: 1

They lose money from all the law suits. I'm not talking about future sales from pissed off customers. They've actually said they are taking a loss to "stop piracy" (read: scare the shit out of you, so you buy their crap)

This is genius, now they'll make free money from every internet connection while saving money by not having to pay all those legal fees. The funny thing is, they could still release every thing with DRM. Then they can just sue you for breaking the DRM (they'd have about the same amount of evidence as their current trials, a few of which they've won).

On top of that, there will be idiots that pay the fee and still buy the real CDs - because it is what they've always done.

" Far from restoring crucial sand banks and other areas, the flows could destroy habitat, [Grand Canyon National Park Supt. Steve Martin] said. One flood was not enough, Martin said Monday. Holding off follow-up flows for months would leave endangered humpback chub fish, sandbars used by river rafting trips, and archaeological treasures at river's edge diminished "almost to the point of no return," he said."
Those habitats survived thousands of years of flooding before we created the dam, what makes him think a single flood would destroy it? And, why does he say both that the flood will destroy the habitat and that without the flood the habitat will be destroyed? Superintendent, yes. Elegant speaker/thinker and specialist, I think not.

Add 'creating new' after 'in' and you are completely correct, within that sentence. As soon as you have a single population that diverges into two distinct non-interbreeding populations you have two species.
For Science's sake, we've created animals that are farther apart than lions and tigers, which can rarely have offspring with each other that are still able to breed.
I would come up with an analogy pertaining to how stupid it is to believe in micro- but not macro-evolution *(which is just micro evolution over a greater scale), but my mind can not seem to think of anything quite that idiotic.
I shutter to think of what this will do to my psyche, but I'm going to suggest you follow the methods of the Scientologists and look up the definitions of each individual word you write before you post about evolution, to clear up any possible misunderstandings on your part.

  17. My friend on OCZ Prepares Neural Impulse Actuator for Shipping · · Score: 5, Interesting

My friend did his thesis on using (basically) this system to help invalids participate in the world, about 10 years ago. According to him, at first everyone can raise or lower all their brain waves at once, and within a month can raise or lower a specific wave. At first for it to be accurate, you need to have the system read muscle movement for facial tics, but gradually you can phase out this input as the patient becomes more adept at controlling his mental state. The hardest part of writing his thesis was getting time with the equipment.

Forget about games, this being mass-produced is a great step towards turning the handicapped into the handicapable .
