    It's still better then having great marketing for a ridiculous product. Being wise does not only mean to be able to see through good marketing and spot bad products, but also to look past bad marketing to see good products. Are you really willing to ignore a good product cause of bad marketing, I mean even after you discover that product is actually good.

    Nerd pleeease. Nothing is too big to fail, history has proven that time and time again (Titanic, Roman Empire, British Empire, Napoleon, USSR...etc etc)... It's too big to fail NOW, but give it time, it will wither down (or is it wither up)...

    It's a pity I can't replace my hard disk every few years and ghost the old data in matter of few hours.

    The difference is when the data is on MY hard disk it's under MY control, and I have the responsibility and power to replace it in time.

    If facebook/flicker or any site decides to just shut down tomorrow without warning, I don't have time to react.

    Hard drive's fail much more predictably then web sites.

    What was description of the perpetrator of this crime? Was it 'young black male'? If so would you really accept that as detailed enough of description to attack anyone, or be suspicious of anyone.

    As someone said, considering the number of people that gathered, and how long it lasted this list is not surprising or even high crime rate. I am pretty sure most of these things happen at music festivals( example ), or gun shows (search for gun show accidents provides a nice list) or sport events. Parent's post just gives data, which is not same as information. So instead of informative, it should be tagged as data...ful

    Yeah, I'm going to disagree with you there. I know the old saying, do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. But my experience is more like, if you do what you love for your 9 to 5, what do you do when you need a break?

    I realized (much too late) that the better approach is:
    Do what you like?
    Keep what you love as a hobby?

    True but banning applications is really not the best way.

    To paraphrase the popular saying:
    Applications don't leak information people leak information.

    If your employees are stupid enough to discuss US invasion plans over hotmail, and you ban hotmail they will find even dumber way to discuss it trust me.

    Since when is the fact that programs have bugs news.

    Being a programmer is almost as depressing as being a meteorologist. People use your services/products on daily bases but only remember you when you get things wrong.

    Also making a bug free application is almost as hard as making a faultless weather prediction for an entire month.

    I don't know why we,programmers and meteorologist, even try (though programmers also catch and throw).

    Here's the algorithm

    1. Patent an 'invention'
    2. If you notice someone is using your invention, DON'T SUE
    3. Wait for them to actually succeed, and invest time. money and creativity in creating something useful that's loosely based on your half-baked idea that you patented
    4. Sue the successful company
    5. Profit

    or just randomly sue successful start ups until you find one that used your patent

    Patents have really lost their purpose.

    By the way I've just patented

    1 step one
    2 ???
    3 profit

    pattern so from now on I can sue anyone who used a systematic approach to generated profit.

    My dad has harnessed this power and uses it consciously when somebody tries to talk to him.

    It's sort of spam filter.

    Now semiseriously this might help you sleep but wouldn't it also make you more vulnerable and exposed when sleeping. Noise can be an indicator of danger. Evolutionary wouldn't the early human actually benefit from light sleep? Or to put it into modern context wouldn't you like to be woken up if someone is breaking into your house? What I am saying is that I am not sure I would call these people 'lucky'.
