Anytime a corp tells me they want to help, experience(and corp law) tells me philanthropy is not even remotely their motive. When multi-corps start 'cooperating' for my benefit I get as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Besides being shocked that this is not already a standard practice, I'm going to predict the overhead for this stalwart effort is going to be too large to bear so some sort of profitable fix will follow...

Buy a programmable thermostat. This will pay for itself in a couple of months.

A note of caution on Programmable Tstats on tiered power plans: When you set it 'on' for 7PM(when off-peak pricing begins), plenty of 'smart' systems will anticipate and run the compressor full bore for a period(20/40/60 minutes) of on-peak usage to have the temp at the desired temp when that time comes. Getting into a diagnostics mode and disabling this 'feature' is recommended or you may be surprised to find the exact opposite of savings. Honeywell calls their service Adaptive Intelligent Recovery(AIR), must get into setup mode to disable. YMMV..

Does it count when it is skewed by 'not smart' decisions made from misinformation/ignorance, spontaneous emotions or the mob mentality... or do some 'smart' people get a mulligan from time to time? Is the rocket scientist 'smart' even though she cannot tie her own shoes?
