Yeah, not something that I've just learned, I've seen it happen may time before. I just wasn't expecting it, certainly not while the net neutrality debate was going on.
You're either too young or too stupid to know a good movie from a bad one, then.
I don't know what the average age of/. readers is, but I'd guess I'm at least twice that. I grew up watching movies that actually took time to unfold. While I enjoy hour and a half long action movies that are full of one-liners and explosions for no apparent reason, other than to look cool. I also appreciate movies that don't do this. I have the patience to sit through a long movie too. Hell, I not only have the movie version of Das Boot but also have the 5 hour long miniseries version as well. I suppose 2001 was a bad movie in your mind too.
Or were you actually arguing that the Transformers movies were somehow the height of good film making?
But you like shiny eyes. Congrats.
I don't even know what this means. Maybe I am old and stupid after all. Still, I'm not sure why you feel the need to call me stupid because I liked a movie that you didn't. But if ad hominem attacks are how you respond to someone with a different opinion, you may want to rethink who is young and/or stupid in the conversation.
I thought it was very good. Certainly much better than I had ever expected for a sequel of the original. But considering that the average gross for the 5 Transformers movies is around $290 million, I can see how Blade Runner wouldn't do very well. There's way too much quite time and not enough "esplosions" and cut scenes for most movie goers these days. Especially for a sci-fi movie.
Not on proper Blu-Ray player software - which requires a secure content path from the decoder to the screen, including HDCP. If you're saying you can get a screen grab, you are probably issuing a player that already breaks the encryption.
I usually just lay a 14 inch HDMI monitor on my flatbed scanner for a quick screen grab. If I need a higher quality one, I'll make a bunch of scans off of my 55 in TV and stitch them together. So far my Blu-ray software hasn't complained about it.;-)
Do this for us, or we'll make your sun go supernova and destroy Earth
I'm really not sure what we could possible do for a race that is technologically advanced enough to make a star go supernova. Other than to let them know that humans taste best when cooked medium rare with a side of barbecue sauce. To any race that can do that, we're about as technologically advanced as a colony of ants is to us.
However, the judge rules "the wording on the packaging did not create an enforceable contract." It seems to me that they just need to update the wording to make it enforcable as intended (1 license that is shared across both formats)
If they could do that it would effectively outlaw reselling the disk if the digital copy is used. Fortunately, I don't think a little bit of rewording can do that.
I doubt any car manufactor is using neural nets for self driving or autonomous driving.
It makes no real sense.
Probably not, but neural net, AI, cloud, etc. are important buzz words and must be used in everything worth buying these days. I went looking for a new toaster and couldn't find one that used deep learning, so I'm going to have to go without toast until someone makes one.
Actually I'm thinking that after the fall of civilization there's going to be a relegion start around this thing. The followers of it will go on a holy crusade against those crazy bastards who worship a nuclear warhead. Charlton Heston will become their savior after he detonates the warhead and kills all of those crazy nuke pagans. There'll be some talking monkeys lead by Roddy McDowell and Andy Sirkis will challenge him and win by using the force.
I can't wait for the inevitable story of hackers getting into some manufacturers vehicle network (be it Tesla, Mopar, Ford, or GM) and using the ECM in the cars themselves to mine bitcoin. Or would the infotainment system processor better designed for bitcoin mining?
Gates says the rise in artificial intelligence will mean society will be able to do more with less.
Those who own the companies and such will be able to do more with less. Those of us that don't will simply have to do with less. Big societal disrupting tech typically starts out pretty rocky and those that want to survive will clash with those that want to retain their money making business model. Just look at the companies that finance the RIAA an MPAA for a recent example. When only a fraction of the population is needed for the few jobs that are left, the owners, producers, and shareholders are not going to want to have to pay increased taxes for those who they made obsolete. I'm not sure what the actual solution will be, but we are in for some interesting times.
They really missed an opportunity with Edge and Cortana. Edge should have been called "Bada" and Cortana "Boom" Just think of the marketing they could have done with Bada Bing, Bada Boom.
Wood certainly has it's uses, but it seems to me that a high rise is not one of them. Wood needs to be protected from the sun and elements. Who wants to have to paint or weather proof this thing every couple of years? I lived in a house with wood siding as a kid. I hated having to go out to scrape the old paint off and repainting it. I know paint and weather proofing has come a long way since I was a kid, but it's still going to need this done periodically.
This is why aluminum siding and later vinyl siding became a thing. It also sounds like they plan to have plants draped all over it. That will rot most wood even faster. Do they have carpenter or wood bees in Japan? If so, those little bastards will bore holes in damn near any wood they can find.
Your 1999 Nissan likely burns oil at that age. Nothing older than 2006 really should be on the road unless it's a collector car. If it's a truck, that moves up to 2010.
This simply is not true. I have a truck from 1993. It doesn't burn oil. These days it only sees about 20 miles per year as I only use it to haul stuff to the dump, or buy mulch or landscaping stones, etc. Why in the hell would I buy a new truck to replace it when I costs me about around $120 per year? How much pollution is created to build a new vehicle? I'm going to guess quite a bit in comparison to a vehicle that even burns a modest amount of oil
The iPhone likewise, Anything older than the SE or iPhone 5S is probably "too old" but probably still usable as a phone.
Too old for what? I currently have a Samsung S5. It does more than I need it to. I can check email, make calls, texts, surf the internet, watch videos on it, oh I can also make calls. I've replaced the battery, but that's a simple 30 second process. In all honesty, I'd probably still be using my S3 if it hadn't broken. The main reason phones get "too old" is because manufacturers decide to stop making updates for them. Which makes me crazy. Essentially they get to decide when you need to buy a new phone.
While you're trying to force people to change their preferences, remember that if you just stop caring about gender it more than doubles your dating pool!
Very true. But it's not a very good long term strategy.;-)
Don't drive distracted! It is illegal! There is no multi-tasking and driving!
No kidding, I can't believe a woman beside me this morning was trying to put on makeup while driving. It's a good thing I looked up from my book when I did, otherwise she would have hit me when she came over into my lane.
yes, kids should have freedom to run around and not be stalked by their parents. same as we did in the 90s. fuck this company, hope the hacker did some real and permanent damage. it's called trust.
I grew up a few decades before you and was thinking the same thing. But one thing that you and kids today don't have to keep them in line is the fear that we had. Don't get me wrong, I did plenty of stupid shit when I was a kid. But we had corporal punishment at school back then. Which sucked and hurt a bit. But we also knew it was nothing compared to what we would get when we got home. It was the same if we got caught by the police or a neighbor turned us in to our parents. I think by the 90's it's unlikely that you had to worry about being ratted out by your neighbors. Either way, we had to think about whether or not what we were doing was worth the ass whooping we would get for getting caught. It was pretty clear to me that as a child I had absolutely no rights.
I'm not sure how I feel about this app being able to track kids. I seriously doubt it's legal to use this on an adult without their consent. It probably violates several wire tapping laws. However, they don't really exist for children. I can certainly see how some parents may want to use this. One things for sure, you're pretty much guaranteed that kids today will have their phone on them if nothing else.
I never said it sucked, that was a quote from the OP. Did you not even read that I actually liked the movie and was disagreeing with the OP?
Yeah, not something that I've just learned, I've seen it happen may time before. I just wasn't expecting it, certainly not while the net neutrality debate was going on.
The bill, introduced by Sen. Frank Ciccone (D-Providence) and Sen. Hanna Gallo (D-Cranston)
Sounds more like something that Republicans would be doing, but I'm assuming that that "D" indicates these are Democrats that are proposing this.
"sexual content and patently offensive material."
Definitely sounds more like a Republican thing, so very confusing.
But even more concerning, who decides what is "patently offensive material"?

Movie sucked who cares

How much does it cost to keep and train the sharks to hold still?

Volleyball shaped, with a simple face?
How is this NOT named Wilson?
Copyright. The MPAA would bankrupt IBM. Just sending the attorneys and judge to hear the case in the ISS's jurisdiction would cost a fortune.

I wonder what a Molotov or TEC-9 would do to the fucking thing.
If you are more that 10 feet away, you're more likely to actually hit it with a tec9 by lighting it on fire and throwing it than using it as a gun.

Anyone know? I saw no reference to a power source.
Gravity.
I figured I better put the answer in the subject and first word since it is in TFS
From TFS:
The clock is powered by a large weight hanging on a gear
The letter states he can operate it if he fixes the interference. TFS makes it sound like the FCC won't let him mine bitcoin at all.
I can't wait for the inevitable story of hackers getting into some manufacturers vehicle network (be it Tesla, Mopar, Ford, or GM) and using the ECM in the cars themselves to mine bitcoin. Or would the infotainment system processor better designed for bitcoin mining?

My neighbor just died of cholera. This is the good life!
So his widow is pretty hot I take it.
While you're trying to force people to change their preferences, remember that if you just stop caring about gender it more than doubles your dating pool!

Infinite? No. If that was even remotely true then we'd find life everywhere we looked.
Or maybe the universe is a bit bigger than you think is.
