Screw that. We should invade Baja.. that place is party. The beachs rock. The waters warmer.. and you can drink at 18.. so hot, skanky chicks.. wait If we invade they will raise the drinking age to 21. Uh.. Your right.. Sell OFF SD to mexico.. turn it into a REAL party town. Its so close the happiest place on earth.. TJ.
First of all, screw legion. Your jackasses take public money to develop a system which isnt even opensource! If you want people to use legion why do you lockup access to it? Why do you produce binary releases.. wich arent even availbe unless you prove your self. Damn you look like a bunch of shitty windows java programmers that want to get paid for every line of crappy code you copy and paste into a lame application. So stop trying to push some lame unavailable closed source crap, and start ducking snipers.
While some will say that the WET is so cool.. it esstinally is a WAP11 stuck in client ap mode. Wait.. my wap11 does client AP mode. OK.. so the WET must be much cheaper since my WAP11 will do all other forms of bridging and I could turn it into a regular AP later if i needed to. So wets are cheaper.. uhh NOPE.. WET is listed at $129. I just picked up a new WEP11 at frys for $99. So while you may have a point about RF strength, the WAP gives me 2 antennees.. It looks like the WET has priced it self out of the usefullness. Linksys marketing should not get their asses kicked by their own products. Rather they should sell the WET at half the WAP11 and then its starts to look like a deal. Until the WET is $40 Ill continue to buy WAP11's
As I recall there is a provition in one of these statues to stop this kind of litigation. Wasnt there a section which did not hold isp/backbone providers responable for content So long as they made some effort to shut down offending customers when notified ?
Thats how Most 6 legged insects move. There are a few other forms of locomtion. The wave techique is used when there are many legs, but can be used with 6 legs. There are even multiple methods for four and two legs. Ever watch a horse move through the different gates. Humans with two legs even have choices, of course the best place to observe them female movment on a beach, with a beer in hand. But I digress.
As long as floppys are used for boot devices we cant get rid of them. Bootable CD's are great.. but many bios dont have them. And when you have an old machine that needs to boot off of floppy, where are you going to make said bootable floppy. Yes I have been stuck up sh*t creek whithout a paddle.. a room full of computers.. and only one with a floppy that can only boot from a floppy. Yanking a HD just becouse you cant format a floppy to be bootable suckx my nutz.
Its your code. Most of the lamo suggestions wont come in the form of a patch.. more of someone whining for something. The good news is those people dont code.. so you can ignore them. You simply reply, 'Send me the patch, Ill review it.' that will scare off 90% of the poeple. The last 10% wont take to you shitting on their patch well.. point out stuff like style and other problems with it. Of course if you like the patch you can always accept it. You need a spine.. OS wont give it to you.. stand up and be a man.
I got a Hauppauge winTV-PVR. It has a hardware mpeg encoder that has a crap load of modes (CBR,VBR, 1- 20 Mb/s bit rates.) even does vcd and burning in windows. Best of all the card uses a BT chipset.. so its supported in Linux and FreeBSD. I see alot of negative stuff about the ATI usb TV tuners so lets not get our hopes up about MAC stuff. Apple Mac hardware usally rocks.. but rarley do I find 3rd party stuff any where near the same quality.
Why do does seem that even educated people stop thinking when they sit infront of a computer? I have seen doctors, engineers, teachers, and lawyers sit infront of a computer and just stop thinking completely. As soon as the computer is on they belive say 'I dont know how todo this, do it for me.' Here we need tough love. We need to educate people instead of dumbing it down for them. If we keep dumbing down everything soon we will live in a world of no sharp corners and then how are we going to cut our meat? While a bad UI sucks.. its even worse when we reinvet the UI for each user.. becuse unless they can just 'know' how to use it they will never learn it. Its time we start looking at technology as something that people need to learn how to work with.. and not insticvtly understand. This means better documentation, cleaner UI's, and never dumbing something down to the lowest commone demonotator. But rather we should understand.. some people are stupid.. and we dont need to work with them until they make themselfs Un-stupid.
And for my Second Meta bet. I bet the backers are IBM. Any one else have a good target? I doubt any of the linux distributers have 200K to burn on this.. but IBM has more money then god (aka bill gates)
One of the best things I did when I moved into a dorm for the first time was build a firealarm kit. FirmAlarms will go off.. they will go off when you dont want them to.. you have to live with this..(you might have even set them off). You need a bag thats ready accessable in a flash. First you need toys.. I recomend a nurf football, of course you need a atleast one frisbee, and if your an uber geek you put in a nurf bummaring. Now on to snacks.. you might get hungry while you wating for the fire dept to show up.. I recomend Apple Cinnamen Power bars.. they are the only flavor that dont taste like ass.. and they keep for ever, really you should have a case of these things. You should also have things like a windbreaker/sweet shirt.. and maybe even a pair of shoes.. the batheroom slippers suck for the wet grass youll need to trodge across. Now for the one thing you CANT not live wihtout.. an extra pair of car keys.. nothing is better then jumping into your car at 3am and making a run to In&Out.. and eating infront of all the aholes that were studing. And a small tote bag to hold all this stuff ( mine was under the edge of the bed.).
Some other Cool things to have that may not belong in your fire alarm bag. Of course shot glasses, mixing glassses..and some howto mix drinks books. You would be suprised what most freshmen think is in a White Russian.
A good pair of lab goggles, glasses style those wrapwround suck.. dont breath..and you look like everyother moron. If You *need* the wraparounds.. use some rit die to color them.. raceing strips will get you noticed. Another good thing is a good a spool of strong firm wire. This brings to me to a cool trick. You tie (wrap) a piece of the middle part of a firesprinker.. and then to other side to your RA's door handle. They wakeup.. yank ont door.. its blocked..they pull harder.. and then wamo. the sprinkler goes off. Good news its hella funny.. bad news it will fill you hall with water until the fire dept determines that the is no fire..and they find the spigot to turn it off.. this is usally hours. Also you need squirt guns.. water fights in the doorms are kick ass.. you get extra points if you repell down to soak someone.
Ahh living in the dorms was fun.. I wonder if I can go back without going taking clasess.. wait I never went anyways.. maybe I should go back to school.
While I think Unecoded binary stores of Attachements would be great.. I dont think it will work. I have yet to find a mail client that will *never* fail on decodeing an attachement. Now granted.. many of thes are messages from broken mail clients..but still I have been able to extract the attachments after a little work. Email virus scanners Often have this same problem. Until we can garentee that the software can extract ALL encoded documents we cant assume that the orignal message wont be required at a later date. In the end we are talking about disk space. Last I checked Drives were cheap.. and prices were falling.. ( I just picked up 100GB WD drive for a few dollars north of $100). The data base store and search may be fast.. and should be fast at the expense of space. So do we really need(want) unencoded attachments?
*BSD seems to get by with cvs. They all have a larger group of commiters..They all have more source to worry about. Linus only needs to worry about a kernel.. FreeBSD has a kernel.. and a good chuck of user space apps under CVS. The arguement that its not good enough may be a comment on the users.. not the tool.
while the few of us that actually write code know that space can always be delt with.. but time cant. So the box has some space it tucks away that the user cant get to.. it sucks but what can you do. The worse thing is the time. What if you have your tivo setup to record a show.. and then its HIJACKED. So now they are usaing their previously withheld space.. but now you loose the use of your tivo. INAL but Sounds like Trespass by chattels to me.
While I disagree with RMS on the nameing problems with linux (gnu/linux) As it makes little differnce as distros are allowd to rename themselfs as they like..and the distro is where the GNU tools/code lies. I do agree with some of his new points. While I have never used BitKeeper, but I do use CVS daily.. I always prefer open tools. Often I find bugs.. which I can fix in open tools.. I also find bugs in documenation wich are supported on exzamination of the souce code.
Here is my score card.
(GNU/)Linux nameing thing is lame.. non issue
Using BitKeeper troubling.. why cant someone just beat linus over the head with cvs.. and script that up for him? have perl will travel
Firmware as part of device drivers very bad.
alot of new peices of hardware require some firmware to be downloaded into the device ( 1gb ethernet cards come to mind) There are BUGS in this code.. but as its delived as byte code there is little we can do to fix it. Letting Hardawre Mfgs slide by and pass off this byte code will be the downfall of the kernel.
As always RMS does a good job of ignoring the critics.. and pointing us to the real evils.. As much as I hate it Im tending to agree with him more and more.
Ahhhh.. You sunk my buisness model!
sorry in todays world you need to invent and sell something that worth its price.. no longer will you be allowed to produce something and slap what ever price you want on it and expect us to pay for it. If the service did more then what I can do.. then Ill pay.. move it or loose it.. if you dont keep up your company will be rolled over.
There has been some talk about the browser detection script.. here it is available at http://sharpelectronics.com/navscript.js
There are several problems with.. it is rather childish.
That was called the 'north hollywood shootout' and yes I was watching it live when it happend. The point your missing here was not that the armor they were wearing was so great.. rather that the police were not ready for such an engagment. The power of a 9mm handgun is nothing compared to 7.62mmX33.. your standard apposing force weapon. the ammount of armor required to stop or light handguns is minimal.. also youll remember from the tape that the cops werent able to get many shots on them as they had no armor.. even with the light armor they were able to stand grand.. drive the cops into cover while a few highcyclic rate weapons. There problem was not armor or weapons.. but rather legistics.. they had little to no route for escape.. once they had several police on sceane it was all over. Really they needed a third person a driver. And a large vehical which allow easy entrance and exit.. a large van with sliding door. would have helpd alot. Then you hope to get in and out before the helicopters get there. Really if they wanted to get rid of the helicopter it wouldnt be that difficult.. buying or building your own RPG isnt that difficult.. luring the hellicopter to stable following location wouldnt be that difficult on a freeway.. thus hanging out of the sliding door and shooting down a helicopter would not only scare the shit out of pursurers.. but also buy you enough time to ditch the vehical..and find another.
but I digress other people have mentioned kevlar.. this could be analugus to the silk undershirts the huns wore. very strong.. light weight.. and follows the 'bend dont break' doctrine.

Where do you get this crap? My WAP11 in AP client mode is connected to a small LAN, it has 4 clients.. all addressable from each side of the wireless.
This one client MYTH is crap.. stop spreading this crap.. the WET all is just a WAP11 stuck in client ap mode.
While some will say that the WET is so cool.. it esstinally is a WAP11 stuck in client ap mode. Wait.. my wap11 does client AP mode. OK.. so the WET

1/2 Gb SD Card.. WTF.. I need me one of those.
that wont eatup the CF slot.. and gets you similar
storage to the IBM microdrive.. gdamn that cool.

We perfer the term muppet.. or ruppet in the riaa case
This is a better example of recursion then Elvis dieing and coming back as a Elvis impersonator.
